The new Apple iPhone 16 Pro isn’t just a phone; it’s a pocket-sized powerhouse, with a sleek slice of tech that’s sure to impress. So, is it worth the upgrade? Is it the best iPhone yet? From my experience with the iPhone 16 Pro, the OLED display looks stunning. The scrolling feels smooth, almost effortless, and the display shows pictures and videos in great detail, and with bright colors. It looks gorgeous. Overall, the iPhone 16 Pro’s display is a standout feature, offering exceptional quality and performance.

Design

The iPhone 16 Pro builds upon the success of its predecessor, offering a refined design with a premium build, and a few new features. In terms of the premium build you get the iPhone 16 Pro with a durable glass and titanium frame; and a new Camera Control key that provides you with quick access to the camera features and settings.

While the design is pretty much the same as its predecessor, it sticks to what makes it great, and sticks to a solid durable build, delivering a solid and satisfying user experience. Overall, the iPhone 16 Pro is a well-crafted and feature-packed smartphone that offers a premium user experience.

Performance

The iPhone 16 Pro comes equipped with the latest and most powerful A18 Pro processor, that offers excellent performance overall. It provides fast and efficient processing power for multitasking tasks.

It comes with a better and faster GPU that delivers impressive graphics for gaming and multimedia and comes with an enhanced neural engine that contributes to the overall exceptional performance. The iPhone 16 Pro consistently outperforms its predecessor in benchmark tests, demonstrating significant improvements in CPU and GPU performance.

The device’s neural engine also provides a noticeable boost in AI-related tasks. Overall, the iPhone 16 Pro is a powerful and capable smartphone that offers exceptional performance for demanding users. The A18 Pro chipset, combined with the device’s other features, makes it a top contender in the premium smartphone market.

Battery Life

The iPhone 16 Pro features a 3,582mAh battery, offering a better battery experience. It also supports up to 30W of fast charging, standard MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging, and reverse wireless charging.

It also comes with a battery health feature that helps to optimize battery performance and longevity. Despite the increase in capacity, the iPhone 16 Pro delivers similar performance to the iPhone 16 Pro Max in terms of gaming, video playback, and web browsing.

On moderate usage, you are looking at up to 14 hours of battery life, which is very competitive compared to other smartphone brands. And with charging speed, on a 45W charger, you’re looking at 0 to 58% in 30 minutes, and full charge in 90 minutes. That’s not too bad. 

Overall, the iPhone 16 Pro’s battery performance is excellent, offering long-lasting power and convenient charging options.

Camera

The new Apple iPhone 16 Pro comes with a three-sensor camera system that includes a: 48 MP wide primary camera; a 12 MP telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom; and a 48 MP ultrawide camera.

For content creators, the front-screen camera comes with a 12 MP wide camera. For video recording, the iPhone 16 Pro supports up to 4K quality video recording at 120 fps. There’s also a new Camera Control key, that provides quick access to the camera settings and features.   

Compared to the previous iPhone 15 Pro there are some upgrades to note. Firstly, the optical zoom lens has improved from a 3x to a 5x. Secondly, the ultrawide camera has also improved from a 12 MP to a 48 MP camera, providing better ultrawide pictures and video; lastly, video recordings look smoother at up to 120 frames per second (fps) instead of 60 fps at 4K video.

Overall, there are some upgrades to the camera system, which makes it a better iPhone than its predecessor. Yet the camera system always delivers high-quality videos and photos making it a must-buy for photographers.       

Verdict

In the end, the new Apple iPhone 16 Pro is a premium smartphone that offers a compelling blend of fast performance, premium design, better improvements and new features. It builds upon the strengths of its predecessor and offers significant improvements in various areas.

As I first laid my eyes on this large flagship wonder, I immediately put my Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra aside to explore on what’s instore. Introducing the new Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max, the top-ranger in the the iPhone 16 series smartphone. With a promise of new features and a better iPhone experience, is it worth the buy? Let’s find out once and for all if this new top flagship smartphone is the best of 2024 at our Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max review.

Let’s start with checking out the display. The iPhone 16 Pro Max features a large and vibrant 6.9-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with ProMotion technology.

The display offers a high screen resolution, with 2868 x 1320 pixels, that ensures sharp and detailed visuals; a refresh rate of up to 120Hz to ensure smooth scrolling between menus and animations; excellent brightness; and HDR support for HDR10 and Dolby Vision that helps to enhance colors and contrast.

When comparing the display of the 15 Pro Max, the screen is larger and has more pixels but only by a small amount, yet the display tech. So in terms of screen quality there’s no real noticeable difference.

Overall, the display looks amazing but not a groundbreaker for the 16 Pro Max.  

Design

Next is the design. The iPhone 16 Pro Max builds upon the success of its older look, offering a sleek design; maintaining its durable features such as the ceramic-glass-and-titanium finish; the IP68 water resistance; and despite its size it’s really comfortable to hold on one hand.

But the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s colors are new. Yep. The iPhone 16 Pro Max comes with four brand new colors, namely: Black Titanium, Desert Titanium, Natural Titanium, and White Titanium.

There’s nothing ground breaking either with the design. It’s the same as the iPhone 15 Pro Max, and is also the same as the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

My guess would be that the design was so good that they see no reason to change it. At least it’s keeping what makes the iPhone so good.

Performance

The iPhone 16 Pro Max is equipped with the powerful A18 Pro chipset, offering significant performance improvements over its predecessor.

The A18 Pro features a faster CPU providing fast and efficient processing power for multitasking and hardware-demanding apps; an improved 6-core GPU that delivers impressive graphics for gaming and multimedia; and enhanced neural engine, delivering advanced machine learning capabilities for tasks like image-recognition and natural language processing.

The iPhone 16 Pro Max consistently outperforms its predecessor in benchmark tests, demonstrating significant improvements in CPU and GPU performance. The device’s neural engine also provides a noticeable boost in AI-related tasks.

Overall, the iPhone 16 Pro Max is a powerful and capable smartphone that offers exceptional performance for demanding users.

The new A18 Pro chipset, combined with the device’s other features, makes it a top contender in the premium smartphone market.

Battery Life

Now’s the battery life. The iPhone 16 Pro Max features a larger battery than the last model, offering a better and longer battery life. You’re looking at an average of up to 18 hours of battery life on moderate use. That’s a full day! 

It consistently delivers excellent performance in various usage scenarios, providing long-lasting power for demanding tasks. 

Here are the key battery features: 1) a larger 4,685mAh battery provides ample power for extended usage; 2) Supports up to 30W fast wired charging from 0 to 100% in less than 2 hours; 3) Compatible with MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging standards; 4) Battery health feature that helps optimize battery performance and longevity; 5) Supports reverse wireless charging of other compatible devices.

Although the battery life is impressive, the charging speed of the new flagship iPhone isn’t great compared to other smartphone brands.

But overall, the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s battery performance is exceptional, offering long-lasting power and convenient charging options.

Camera & Video

With the camera, the iPhone 16 Pro Max introduces a few camera improvements, including a new ultrawide sensor, enhanced software features, and a dedicated Camera Control key.

The rest is still the same. With a 48 MP wide camera sensor; a 12 MP telephoto camera sensor (with 5x optical zoom); a 12 MP wide camera sensor for taking selfies; and support of up to 4K video recording, the camera features are borrowed from the iPhone 15 Pro Max.   

Here are the key camera features: First, it comes with a better 48 MP ultrawide sensor that delivers improved image quality and impressive low-light performance.

Secondly, it includes a Camera Control key that provides quick access to camera settings and features. And thirdly, it also includes new photographic styles that allows for customization of color, contrast, and tone. 

Overall, the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s camera system is a powerful and a versatile tool for capturing high-quality photos and videos. A minor upgrade yet it still maintains the creation of impressive quality media content.

Verdict

The iPhone 16 Pro Max is a solid upgrade over its predecessor, but it’s not a revolutionary leap. The upgrades are minor and most of the features are present in the iPhone 15 Pro Max. If you’re currently using it, there’s probably no compelling reason to upgrade.

However, if you’re coming from an older iPhone smartphone, the iPhone 16 Pro Max is a fantastic choice. It offers a premium build, a stunning display, a long-lasting battery, powerful performance, and exceptional camera features. 

While iOS may not be everyone’s favorite operating system, it’s undeniably secure and user-friendly. With iOS 18, Apple has finally introduced more customization options for home screens, making the experience even more personalized.
