Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra

“Samsung’s S25 Ultra is, without a doubt, a powerful, beautiful and a versatile smartphone. It’s got the looks, the brains, and the brawn. But at this high price, it feels like Samsung could have done even better.”

Is the new Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra the best top-tier premium smartphone in 2025? To help you decide, we bought the smartphone and tested it to see if it’s worth the buy. Samsung has done a great job in releasing the S25 series smartphones that includes the latest performing Snapdragon chip this year. However, with other great top brand smartphones in the same price range using the same chip, it’s gonna be an uphill battle for the Galaxy S25 Ultra to reach top position. To learn of our outcomes, here’s our review of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra.

Overview – Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra

The new Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is back, and it’s looking sharper than ever. Samsung has ditched the boxy look for sleeker curved edges, making it better to handle and also looking it more attractive.

It’s also tougher and more durable than before, thanks to stronger Corning Gorilla Armor glass (front and back) and a titanium frame.

Under the hood, the new Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chip is a beast, promising blazing-fast performance. It also comes with memory for a smoother user experience and more storage apps and media.

While the camera setup mostly carries over from the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, the new ultrawide lens is a major upgrade.

As much as there Galaxy S25 Ultra comes with great features, there’s also things to note. Samsung has included the S Pen, however, sadly they ditched the S-Pen’s Bluetooth capabilities. No more waving your stylus around to control your camera or navigate through presentations.

Overall, the new Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is a powerful and stylish phone with impressive upgrades. However, the loss of Bluetooth S-Pen functionality will be a blow for some users.

Excellent Display

The 6.9-inch display is a visual treat. It comes with vibrant colors and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate that makes everything feel smooth. And let’s not forget the powerful speakers – they’re loud enough to fill a room and deliver clear, crisp audio.

Unlocking the phone is a breeze with the reliable in-display fingerprint scanner or fast facial recognition from the front tear drop camera.

However, the S25 Ultra feels somewhat predictable. Yes. It’s a fantastic phone, don’t get me wrong, but it doesn’t exactly break new ground. Samsung’s competition is pushing the boundaries with better innovative designs and groundbreaking features, while the Galaxy S25 Ultra wants to keep things normal, and safe, but feels a bit boring.

At least the included S-Pen is still around. A unique feature, but the loss of Bluetooth functionality takes some of the magic away. And while DeX is a cool feature, it’s not exactly exclusive to Samsung anymore.

Overall, the Galaxy S25 Ultra may come with a fantastic OLED display but it’s not groundbreaking anymore. Yet let’s look at it tis way – stick to what works. Although the display is as good as its predecessor, the other  is a fantastic phone, but it lacks the “wow” factor we’ve come to expect from a flagship device. It’s a solid performer, but it doesn’t truly stand out from the crowd.

New Premium Design

Samsung’s S25 Ultra boasts a “refined” design with curved corners and flat sides, but let’s be honest, it’s still a big, rectangular slab. Gone are the days of vibrant back panels; this year, Samsung opted for muted colors and a rather plain aesthetic. While durability is key, the design feels a bit…safe.

The camera bump at back, which looks like small pipes sticking out, is a curious design choice. It looks interesting, but I can already imagine dust collecting in those crevices. The S-Pen is still there, thankfully, but the loss of Bluetooth functionality is a real disappointment. It was a handy feature, and its absence feels like a step back.

While the S25 Ultra is undoubtedly a powerful phone, it lacks the “wow” factor we’ve come to expect from Samsung. The S25 Ultra looks good, but it doesn’t truly stand out from the crowd in terms of design or innovation.

Excellent Performance on Moderate Use

Samsung boasts about the ‘for Galaxy’ version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite, bragging about those extra-fast cores. And honestly? They’re not lying. In the initial testing, the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s performance is excellent. The benchmarks scores are off the charts, blasting past the competition.

However, the S25 Ultra starts strong, but quickly starts to overheat if you’re push it to its limits, resulting in performance drops like a falling rock. And it seems to get hot faster than the competition.

While it’s still a powerful phone for everyday use, its gaming prowess might be slightly overhyped. It’s great for casual gaming, but once it heats up, you might notice some performance hiccups.

Overall, the Galaxy S25 Ultra has the power, but they seem to be overcautious with their heat management. It’s like they’re trying to keep the phone cool at all costs, even if it means sacrificing peak performance. It’s better to use it for everyday or moderate tasks like making calls, internet browsing, but not for gaming as it starts to heat the phone.

Superb Battery Life

Moving on to the battery life. First, the battery life is better than the older Galaxy S24 Ultra. Second, there are no changes to battery size as they both have 5000mAh. And third. the charging speed is a little faster than the S24 Ultra using the same 45W charger. The overall battery life, and charging speed surpasses its predecessor, yet they both use the same battery.

Compared to other top brand rivals such as OnePlus 13 (which includes a 6000mAh battery) and Huawei Pura 70 Ultra (that comes with a 5200mAh), they come with bigger batteries and better charging speeds. With the Galaxy S25 Ultra taking an hour to full charge, OnePlus takes 35mins whereas the Pura 70 Ultra takes 50mins, using a 100W charger, which the S25 Ultra does not support.

In conclusion, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is ahead in overall battery life and charging speed than the older S24 Ultra smartphone, but lacking behind with the other rival smartphone brands.

Minor Camera Upgrade

The Galaxy S25 Ultra boasts an impressive camera system on paper, but in practice, it feels a bit underwhelming. While the main 200 MP wide sensor captures sharp, detailed images, the overall color profile feels a bit muted and lacks the punchy vibrancy seen on other rival smartphones.

The improved 50 MP ultrawide camera, despite its high resolution, introduces noticeable distortions. The telephoto camera, with its impressive 5x and 3x optical zooming capabilities doesn’t quite surpass the previous generation’s 10x capabilities, which was the Galaxy S21 Ultra and Galaxy S22 Ultra smartphones.

The selfie camera captures decent pictures, but it doesn’t quite match the quality of rivals like top tier brands Huawei and OnePlus.

Again. In the end, while the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s camera excels in technical specs, and takes great pictures, it lacks that “wow” factor that makes it truly groundbreaking, lacking that excitement to make it a great camera experience.

Software & AI

The Galaxy S25 Ultra runs the latest Android 15 with Samsung’s One UI 7 on top, promising seven years of software updates and support – a serious commitment from Samsung. One UI 7 brings a refined look and feel, but also a slight sense of Samsung’s grip on the Android experience.

While Samsung offers a ton of customization options, you’ll notice they often favor their own apps over Google’s. This can be frustrating if you prefer Google’s ecosystem. Then there’s Galaxy AI, which comes with a slew of exciting AI-powered features, such as:

  • Hello, AI: One UI 7 introduces powerful AI features like Now Brief and Now Bar, providing personalized information and insights throughout the day.
  • Enhanced Camera AI: The camera system leverages AI to enhance photo and video quality, with features like Generative Edit allowing you to creatively manipulate your images.
  • Security First: Samsung prioritizes user privacy with robust security measures, ensuring your personal data remains safe and secure.

Overall, the S25 Ultra is a fantastic phone, but Samsung’s desire to create a tightly integrated ecosystem might not sit well with all Android users. And the AI features makes the smartphone look like an intelligent assistant that learns and adapts to your needs, offering a truly personalized mobile experience.

Verdict

After all tests done, there’s only one thing to say – Samsung’s S25 Ultra is, without a doubt, a powerful, beautiful and a versatile smartphone. It’s got the looks, the brains, and the brawn. But at this high price, it feels like Samsung could have done even better.

The display, once Samsung’s crown jewel, now looks and feels ordinary. The competition is fierce, and the S25 Ultra’s screen, while gorgeous and excellent, doesn’t quite stand out from the crowd anymore.

The phone’s performance is top-notch at first, but lacks sustainability. From using phone we noticed dips in performance, which is surprising for a phone at this price. And while the cameras are technically impressive, they lack that one thing that made it so unique that you’d fall in love with your photos.

Don’t get me wrong, the S25 Ultra is still a fantastic phone. But at this price, it feels like Samsung could have delivered something truly groundbreaking, something that would leave its competitors in the dust.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Review – New, Solid but Compact Smartphone

Samsung Galaxy S25

Samsung Galaxy S25

“Samsung Galaxy S25 seems like a solid performing, compact smartphone, that looks good, feels good, and comes with an impressive all-round package”

Are you curious about what the new Samsung Galaxy S25 has in store for you? If the answer is yes, then you have come to the right place. Introducing the latest compact, entry model smartphone in the Galaxy S25 series – the Samsung Galaxy S25. Does it come with new improvements? Is it better than the older Galaxy S24? All these questions, and more, will be answered as we take you through the review of the new Samsung Galaxy S25.

Overview

Get rid of last year’s entry model, the Galaxy S24, and look to the next, new, compact and powerful smartphone in the new Samsung Galaxy S25 series, the Galaxy S25 smartphone.

That’s not an under statement. This smartphone really is the smallest in the series, coming with a large 6.2-inch Full HD OLED display, a 50 MP triple-lens camera, a 4000mAh battery, and the most powerful Android chip to date, the Snapdragon 8 Elite.

The rest is still the same. Same durability. Same IP68 rating which means it’s water-and-dust resistance. Same camera features. With the new model comes new color options to choose from. From Navy and Mint, to Silver Shadow and Icy Blue, these are the retail colors that give it that funky fresh look. There are more color options, but you get them if you order online.

Then there’s the Galaxy AI. Android 15 will come with many new software and security upgrades, and new AI features to make our lives easier.

If battery life is your thing, then just be aware that the battery capabilities have not changed from the S24. Yet with the new chip, there will be a slight increase in battery life, given that the chip’s efficiency will use less battery power to run.

What we can say for now is that the Galaxy S25 is a great smartphone. They have upgraded the performance of the smartphone to match the other models in the S25 series, and comes with trendy new colors.

Specs

Galaxy S25

  • Display: 6.2-inch, AMOLED, 120Hz, 1080 x 2340 pixels
  • CPU: Snapdragon 8 Elite
  • Memory: 12GB RAM
  • Storage: 128GB/256GB/512GB
  • Battery: 4000mAh, supports 25W wired, 15W wireless, and 4.5W reverse wireless
  • Primary Camera: 50 MP wide + 10 MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom + 12 MP ultrawide
  • Selfie Camera: 12 MP wide, up to 4K video at 60fps

Display

The Galaxy S25 comes with a large 6.2-inch AMOLED screen, with 1080p full HD capabilities, up to 120Hz refresh rate, and HDR10+ support. On the top of the display is a tear-drop front camera for those you take those much-needed selfie moments that supports up to 4K video recordings.

Brightness is great but similar to the Galaxy S24. It maintains the two refresh rate options – the adaptive mode at 120Hz and the standard mode at 60Hz. Overall, nothing new here from the Galaxy S24. My guess would be that it’s maintaining what makes the display look and feels so great.

Design

The S25 boasts a premium, sophisticated design with an aluminum frame, seamless transitions, and subtly curved edges for comfortable handling. Its vibrant AMOLED display with minimal bezels enhances the visual experience. Thoughtful details like integrated cameras and intuitive button placement add to its appeal.

Mint Samsung Galaxy S25 (Image credit: Samsung)

However, the glossy finish attracts fingerprints and can be slippery. The camera bump persists, the design is evolutionary rather than revolutionary, and the premium materials contribute to a slightly heavier weight. Overall, the S25 is an attractive and well-built phone, prioritizing refinement over radical change.

Performance

As previously mentioned, the Galaxy S25 comes with an upgraded Snapdragon 8 Elite chip making it the most powerful Android performer today. From benchmarking tests done the Galaxy S25 scores well compared to other top brand smartphones, such as OnePlus 13 and Xiaomi 14 T.

The smartphone comes with a 12GB of memory to prevent it from being frozen or get stuck, maintain the smooth transition between menus and to help with power demanding apps like mobile games.

In terms of storage, you get to choose from 128GB to 512GB, with the smaller being the cheapest model to buy. Sadly, its not recommended to get the 128GB model as the space fills up quite fast with the apps, content and media we store. Best start with the 256GB to have more space or you can use online platforms such as Google Drive for optional storage.

Overall, the Galaxy S25 is a solid performer. It beats the competition like a racecar getting pole position. If you are tempted to, get the 128GB model but its not recommended.

Battery Life

Moving on to the battery life. Has it changed? Not really. On moderate use, you can get a good 13 hours of battery life, with over 25 hours if you just stick to making and receiving calls, but on heavy use, you’re looking at up to 10 hours of battery life.

The charging speed has not changed either. With a 25W charger you’re looking at 0 to 56% battery charge in half an hour, and 100% full charge takes about 75 mins. The entry model Samsung Galaxy smartphones has never been known to have the best charging speed, but the slower the charging, the battery it is for the battery in the long run.

In the end, the battery life is still the same but it’s as good as ever compared to the previous model. The charging speed is slow but if you’re patient and use the smartphone in moderation you’re looking at more than a full day’s battery life.

Camera

The Samsung S25 comes with a rear 50 MP triple camera sensor, that includes:

  • 50 MP wide sensor
  • 10 MP telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom
  • 12 MP ultrawide sensor
  • Supports up to 8K videos at 30 fps

It also comes with a front 12 MP wide camera with autofocus, that’s great for making and taking video calls, taking selfies, and also supports up to 4K videos at 60 fps.

The S25 boasts a high-resolution 50MP main sensor for detailed photos, enhanced low-light performance, and versatile lenses. AI-powered scene optimization, improved Night mode, and advanced editing tools enhance image quality. Impressive optical and AI-enhanced zoom, along with 8K video recording, offer further creative options.

Icy Blue Samsung Galaxy S25 (Image credit: Samsung)

However, AI processing can sometimes lead to oversaturation, low-light performance varies, and telephoto lens consistency can be an issue. The front-facing camera sees minimal upgrades. While not drastically different from its predecessor, the S25’s camera system leverages AI to deliver high-quality images and videos.

Software & AI

The Samsung S25 runs Android 15 with One UI 7, offering 7 years of software support. One UI 7 maintains a familiar interface with smooth performance but can feel cluttered.

AI features are the highlight, including “Circle to Search,” generative editing, and live translation, all offering impressive functionality.

However, AI processing can sometimes be overzealous, with Bixby still has some quirks, and generative editing can produce odd results. Privacy concerns are also a factor.

In a nutshell, Samsung S25’s software and AI features are a mixed bag of digital delights and occasional quirks. When it works, it’s like having a futuristic super computer in your pocket. But when it doesn’t, it’s like dealing with a mischievous digital gremlin.

Verdict

In the end, Samsung Galaxy S25 seems like a solid performing, compact smartphone, that looks good, feels good, and comes with an impressive overall all-round package.

Yet it fails to introduce meaningful upgrades this time, with hardly no drastic changes in the hardware such as the camera. The charging speed hasn’t improved, the default model starts at 128GB storage, and with the battery life? It’s dependable yet not as great as the competition.

So if you’re looking for a compact smartphone, to replace your older Android smartphone, or looking for an alternative to the more expensive S25 Plus or the S25 Ultra, then the Samsung Galaxy S25 smartphone may be the one to consider.

Preview: New Samsung Galaxy S25, First Impressions

new Samsung Galaxy

Samsung Galaxy S25

“Samsung’s vision for the future is ambitious: a phone that knows you better than you know yourself. But right now, it feels like a blank canvas waiting to be painted.”

PROS

  • Includes new Snapdragon 8 Elite chip
  • Smoother transition between menus
  • Fast performance
  • Includes new Galaxy AI features

CONS

  • No major changes to the camera
  • No major changes to display
  • No changes to battery life
  • No major changes to the design
  • AI features still in development

The Samsung Galaxy S25 (and the rest of the smartphones under the S25 series) is officially on pre-order. It promises to be better than it’s predecessors with newer features such as better processing power and performance, better design and display, and with new AI features. But before you go out there and use your hard-earned money, let’s take a look at what’s in store for us, starting with the new Samsung Galaxy S25

Overview

It’s like déjà vu all over again. Seriously, it looks almost identical to last year’s S24, and the S23 before that. Slimmer? Sure, by a hair. Lighter? Yep but you might not even notice.

No changes to the camera package. Same old, same old. But it comes with more RAM, which is 12GB, which is an upgrade from predecessor. But 128GB of storage? At least that’s the least storage included which goes up to 512GB.

The battery? You get a 4000mAh, which is a tiny bump, barely worth mentioning. And don’t even get me started on the charging speeds. It’s like Samsung’s afraid of progress.

But hey, don’t worry, the real magic is “inside.” Yep. They’re talking about AI, folks. Galaxy AI is back, and it’s better than ever. Not just your average photo filters and noise-canceling. Oh no, this is “agentic AI,” the kind that knows you better than you know yourself.

Your phone, your watch, your smart fridge, even your lights – they’ll all be whispering secrets about you to the S25. It’ll learn your every move, your every whim, and store it all in a “secure” vault.

What will it do with this information? Well, Samsung’s a bit coy. “Turn off the TV when you fall asleep”? Sounds helpful. “Optimize your lighting”? Sure, why not? But mostly, it’s a lot of “wait and see.”

Samsung’s press release talks about an “AI-integrated OS” and a “shared vision with Google.” Sounds fancy, doesn’t it? But let’s be real, it’s more like a blank canvas waiting to be filled with your data.

I’m cautiously optimistic. Samsung clearly sees the potential of AI to make our lives easier. And Bixby, with access to all this juicy data, could finally become useful? Well, maybe?

The real question is, do I trust Samsung with all this personal information? I’m intrigued, to say the least. This isn’t just a phone; it’s an experiment. And we’ll be watching closely to see if Samsung can deliver on its AI-powered promises.

New Design & Display

Okay, let’s be honest: The Galaxy S25 looks… familiar. Like, really familiar. It’s like Samsung just ‘copy-and-pasted’ the design from last year’s S24. The display looks great. However, comparing the screen size and specs against the S24, there are no noticeable changes to report there.

Don’t get me wrong, I get it. New components mean higher costs. And Samsung deserves a pat on the back for keeping the price somewhat reasonable, especially considering the rumors about those fancy new Snapdragon 8 Elite chips.

Exclusive Galaxy S25 colors: Blue black, Coral red, and Pink gold (Source: Samsung)

But seriously, Samsung? A little creativity wouldn’t hurt. At least the S25 comes with new colors to pick from, such as Icy Blue, Navy, Mint, and Silver Shadow (More colors available exclusive online).

In the end, we’re past the point of expecting a complete overhaul every year. But a little spice? A dash of daring? That wouldn’t hurt. Let’s just say, the Galaxy S25 is more about what’s inside than how it looks. And that’s okay, I guess.

New Camera Features

Nothing new here. Again, same old camera sensors and specs with the Galaxy S24. Sure, the new Snapdragon 8 Elite chip promises better image processing, but we’ll have to wait and see from testing to see if it actually translates to better photos.

Instead of better hardware, Samsung’s focusing on AI magic. Removing people from photos? No problem! The AI seamlessly fills in the gaps. Impressive, sure, but it’s a bit like putting lipstick on a pig.

Honestly, it feels like Samsung’s putting more effort into the AI than the actual cameras, making the S25 seem like an afterthought.

Performance & Battery Life

Samsung’s S25 comes with the latest and greatest Snapdragon Elite chip, but don’t get too excited. It’s basically the same chip Qualcomm makes for everyone else, but with a teensy overclock. Think of it as the “World’s Fastest Snail” of processors – bragging rights, but not exactly groundbreaking.

But hey, there’s something interesting under the hood! Samsung’s built a super-secure vault for your AI data, guarded by Fort Knox-level security. The problem? If you lose your phone, so does all that valuable AI data. Talk about a data diet!

The Galaxy S25 also comes with a 4000mAh battery pack, which compared to the S24, is very much the same. Let’s not forget the charging. Samsung’s still stuck in the slow lane while the competition is zooming past. Waiting for your phone to charge? More like waiting for the paint to dry.

In the end, the Galaxy S25 promises to deliver better performance, thanks to the overclocked chip, and battery life is not different to the last S24.

Software & Galaxy AI

Imagine this: a phone that learns about you, and knows you better than you know yourself. Scary right? That’s the new added AI feature, and the promise of the new Galaxy S25.

Don’t get too excited yet, though. Samsung’s handing us a blank slate, a phone eager to soak up every detail of your life. Sleep habits? Photo albums? Every single message? Consider it all fair game.

Now, before you panic, Samsung knows this might sound a bit creepy. That’s why they built a super-secure vault for all this personal data.

But what will it actually do with all this information? That’s the million-dollar question. Samsung’s hinting at things like suggesting better sleep routines based on your data. Or maybe your phone will tell your TV to shut down when your phone detects that you’re asleep.

It’s the Galaxy AI magic, but that’s still in development. Many of the AI features weren’t even working properly in the early demos.

Basically, the Galaxy S25 is a work in progress. It needs to learn about you, and you need to learn about it. But the potential is there. This could be the future of smartphones – a phone that truly adapts to you.

Verdict

The Galaxy S25? It looks familiar. Like, really familiar. But don’t let the same-old design fool you. This phone is a data sponge, ready to absorb every detail of your life from your phone, your watch, even from your smart appliances at your own home.

Samsung’s vision for the future is ambitious: a phone that knows you better than you know yourself. But right now, it feels like a blank canvas waiting to be painted.

I spent some time with the S25, and while Samsung talked a big game about its AI capabilities, I didn’t see much of that magic in action. It’s a phone with a lot of potential, but that potential is still a ways off.

So, if you’re looking for a phone that wows you right out of the box, the S25 might not be it yet. But if you’re willing to wait and see what the future holds, it could be something special. Pre-order starts from 22nd January 2025, then it will be on regular sale from the 7th February 2025. Click HERE for more details.

So what do you say about the Samsung Galaxy S25. Is it the ideal new smartphone for you? After getting a sneak peak in what’s in store, are you still excited about it, or are you gonna stick with your current Galaxy S24.

Natural Titanium (image source: Apple.com)

When comparing the display of the 15 Pro Max, the screen is larger and has more pixels but only by a small amount, yet the display tech. So in terms of screen quality there’s no real noticeable difference.

Overall, the display looks amazing but not a groundbreaker for the 16 Pro Max.

Design

Next is the design. The iPhone 16 Pro Max builds upon the success of its older look, offering a sleek design; maintaining its durable features such as the ceramic-glass-and-titanium finish; the IP68 water resistance; and despite its size it’s really comfortable to hold on one hand.

But the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s colors are new. Yep. The iPhone 16 Pro Max comes with four brand new colors, namely: Black Titanium, Desert Titanium, Natural Titanium, and White Titanium.

There’s nothing ground breaking either with the design. It’s the same as the iPhone 15 Pro Max, and is also the same as the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

My guess would be that the design was so good that they see no reason to change it. At least it’s keeping what makes the iPhone so good.

Performance

The iPhone 16 Pro Max is equipped with the powerful A18 Pro chipset, offering significant performance improvements over its predecessor.

The A18 Pro features a faster CPU providing fast and efficient processing power for multitasking and hardware-demanding apps; an improved 6-core GPU that delivers impressive graphics for gaming and multimedia; and enhanced neural engine, delivering advanced machine learning capabilities for tasks like image-recognition and natural language processing.

Overall, the iPhone 16 Pro Max is a powerful and capable smartphone that offers exceptional performance for demanding users.

The new A18 Pro chipset, combined with the device’s other features, makes it a top contender in the premium smartphone market.

Battery Life

Now’s the battery life. The iPhone 16 Pro Max features a larger battery than the last model, offering a better and longer battery life. You’re looking at an average of up to 18 hours of battery life on moderate use. That’s a full day!

It consistently delivers excellent performance in various usage scenarios, providing long-lasting power for demanding tasks.

Here are the key battery features: 1) a larger 4,685mAh battery provides ample power for extended usage; 2) Supports up to 30W fast wired charging from 0 to 100% in less than 2 hours; 3) Compatible with MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging standards; 4) Battery health feature that helps optimize battery performance and longevity; 5) Supports reverse wireless charging of other compatible devices.

Camera & Video

With the camera, the iPhone 16 Pro Max introduces a few camera improvements, including a new ultrawide sensor, enhanced software features, and a dedicated Camera Control key.

The rest is still the same. With a 48 MP wide camera sensor; a 12 MP telephoto camera sensor (with 5x optical zoom); a 12 MP wide camera sensor for taking selfies; and support of up to 4K video recording, the camera features are borrowed from the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Here are the key camera features: First, it comes with a better 48 MP ultrawide sensor that delivers improved image quality and impressive low-light performance.

Secondly, it includes a Camera Control key that provides quick access to camera settings and features. And thirdly, it also includes new photographic styles that allows for customization of color, contrast, and tone.

Overall, the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s camera system is a powerful and a versatile tool for capturing high-quality photos and videos. A minor upgrade yet it still maintains the creation of impressive quality media content.

Black Titanium (image source: Apple.com)

Verdict

The iPhone 16 Pro Max is a solid upgrade over its predecessor, but it’s not a revolutionary leap. The upgrades are minor and most of the features are present in the iPhone 15 Pro Max. If you’re currently using it, there’s probably no compelling reason to upgrade.

However, if you’re coming from an older iPhone smartphone, the iPhone 16 Pro Max is a fantastic choice. It offers a premium build, a stunning display, a long-lasting battery, powerful performance, and exceptional camera features.

While iOS may not be everyone’s favorite operating system, it’s undeniably secure and user-friendly. With iOS 18, Apple has finally introduced more customization options for home screens, making the experience even more personalized.

The screen supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision, and Apple’s HDR video playback is flexible and can work on any portion of the screen.

Overall, there are no major changes to the display. It comes with the same size, same refresh rate, and the same screen resolution compared to the previous iPhone 15. It just has better brightness.

I guess Apple saw no need to better the display quality as it’s still the best in its class.

It comes in various colours (namely Black, White, Pink, Teal, and Ultramarine), and has a 6.1-inch OLED screen with a Dynamic Island cutout. It also features a new Action Button and a Camera Control button.

Overall, when it comes to battery life the new Apple iPhone 16 competes with other top smartphone brands. With wireless support and fast charging, you’re good to go lasting almost a whole day’s battery life.

Camera

Overall, the iPhone 16’s camera system offers a powerful and flexible experience with new features.

Verdict

The new iPhone 16 doesn’t offer as much innovation as last year’s iPhone 15, which had new features and changes like a new Dynamic Island, USB-C connection, and a 48MP primary camera.

While the iPhone 16 has a new autofocusing ultrawide camera, a Camera Control button, and improved AI, it’s mostly focused on promises and future features. The hardware has been upgraded to support these AI capabilities.

Deciding whether to recommend the iPhone 16 is difficult, as it’s a solid upgrade from older iPhones but doesn’t offer many groundbreaking features.

Android phones may have better hardware and value, but this doesn’t necessarily matter. If you have an older iPhone, the iPhone 16 is a good option for an upgrade.

Impressive Performance

The Pixel 9 is equipped with the latest-generation Tensor G4 chipset, offering improved performance and efficiency compared to its predecessor. The processor features a refined core configuration and upgraded cores, resulting in enhanced processing power.

While the GPU remains the same as the Tensor G3, the higher clock speed contributes to improved graphics performance. The Pixel 9 also boasts 12GB of RAM, ensuring smooth multitasking and app performance.

The device utilizes the same third-generation TPU as the Tensor G3, providing dedicated AI capabilities. Additionally, the new Exynos 5400 modem enables satellite connectivity, expanding the device’s capabilities. Thanks to the hardware specs and general performance, the Google Pixel 9 delivers solid performance in various tasks.

While the Z Fold 6 undoubtedly offers a premium experience, the question remains: is it worth the significant price increase? The device’s refined design, improved display, and faster processor are commendable, but they might not justify the extra cost for some users.

Ultimately, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 caters to those seeking the pinnacle of foldable technology and are willing to invest in the latest advancements. In the following sections, we’ll delve deeper into the device’s features, performance, and overall user experience to help you determine if it’s the right choice for you.

Impressive Display

Samsung has made notable improvements to the cover screen of the Galaxy Z Fold 6, offering a larger 6.3-inch display for enhanced usability. The main 7.6-inch display is also a standout, boasting increased brightness and reduced crease visibility.

The combination of a larger cover screen, brighter main display, and improved crease management elevates the overall user experience, making the Z Fold 6 a more versatile and enjoyable device.

While the display’s color accuracy and brightness are impressive, they fall slightly short of the absolute pinnacle set by some competitors. Nevertheless, the Galaxy Z Fold 6‘s display is a significant step forward and contributes to its overall appeal as a premium foldable smartphone.

Similar Design

One of the standout improvements in the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is its weight reduction. Now comparable to flagship smartphones like the iPhone 14 Pro Max, the Z Fold 6 is significantly more portable than its predecessor.

Samsung has achieved this without compromising durability, resulting in a device that can be easily carried in a pocket or bag.

While the device’s flat edges might cause slight discomfort when held in the hand, the overall design is more refined and sleek than previous models. The reduced thickness further enhances the device’s portability.

These design refinements contribute to a more comfortable and convenient user experience, making the Galaxy Z Fold 6 a viable option for those seeking a powerful and portable foldable smartphone.

Superb Performance

The Galaxy Z Fold 6’s powerful combination of Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor and 12GB RAM delivers exceptional performance. Handling demanding tasks like multitasking, gaming, and video editing is effortless. Benchmark results solidify its position as a performance leader, outshining competitors in various tests.

The device excels in gaming, providing smooth gameplay even with graphically intensive titles. The combination of powerful hardware and efficient cooling ensures sustained performance during extended gaming sessions.

Overall, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 offers a truly impressive performance package, meeting the expectations of even the most demanding users.

Battery Life – Mixed Feelings

Despite the powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, the Galaxy Z Fold 6’s battery life hasn’t seen a significant improvement over its predecessor.

While it delivers solid performance, lasting around 11 hours in our web browsing test, it falls short of competitors like the OnePlus Open and the endurance champion, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.

The Z Fold 6’s charging speed also lags behind some competitors, with a maximum of 25W. While it offers adequate charging times, faster options are available in the market. Overall, while the battery life is acceptable, however, it doesn’t stand out as a particular strength of the Galaxy Z Fold 6.

Camera – Impressive but not Better

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 maintains a strong camera performance, building upon the foundation of its predecessor. While the hardware remains largely unchanged, the addition of a new sensor to the improved ultra-wide camera better captures the light, enhancing overall image quality.

The device excels in capturing vibrant colors and detailed images, with notable improvements in dynamic range and low-light photography compared to previous models.

Navy Galaxy Z Fold 6 (image source: Samsung)

While it might not match the absolute pinnacle of smartphone photography, the Z Fold 6 delivers impressive results that meet the expectations of most users. However, the absence of a higher megapixel main sensor, similar to the Galaxy S24 Ultra, presents an opportunity for improvement in future models.

Other Features

1 – AI Features

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is a showcase for Samsung’s AI capabilities, offering a range of innovative features. From creative tools like Sketch to Image, which transforms doodles into stunning visuals, to productivity-enhancing features like Note Assist for meeting summaries, the Z Fold 6 delivers impressive results.

Portrait Studio adds a playful dimension, allowing users to create cartoon or 3D avatars of themselves. On the practical side, the Interpreter app facilitates real-time language translation, making it a valuable tool for global communication.

The integration of Google Gemini further enhances the device’s AI capabilities, providing intelligent assistance with tasks like homework, answering questions, and summarizing content. Overall, the Galaxy Z Fold 6’s AI features elevate the user experience, offering a glimpse into the future of smartphone technology.

2 – Better Durability

Addressing a common concern about foldable phones, Samsung has enhanced the durability of the Galaxy Z Fold 6. The device features strengthened glass layers and an improved hinge design to withstand daily use and accidental drops.

While the IP48 rating offers some protection against water and dust, it’s essential to handle the device with care. The Z Fold 6 remains susceptible to damage from excessive exposure to harsh environments.

Overall, Samsung has made significant strides in improving the durability of its foldable device, but it’s still recommended to use a protective case for added peace of mind.

Verdict

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 represents a significant step forward for foldable smartphones. While the overall market remains niche, the Z Fold 6 offers a compelling proposition for those seeking a large-screen device with advanced features.

The device boasts impressive performance, thanks to the powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, and a refined design with a larger cover screen. AI enhancements further enhance productivity and user experience.

However, the high price point and incremental upgrades compared to its predecessor might deter some potential buyers. While the Z Fold 6 stands out as a leader in the foldable market, it’s essential to consider alternatives like the OnePlus Open and the anticipated Google Pixel Fold before making a final decision.

Ultimately, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 caters to power users who prioritize a premium foldable experience and are willing to invest in cutting-edge technology.

Galaxy Z Fold 6: Overview

The Z Fold 6 unfolds to boast a rumored 7.6-inch main display, perfect for immersive gaming, multitasking, and consuming media. When folded, a sizable 6.3-inch cover display keeps you connected without needing to unfurl the phone. Under the hood, the Z Fold 6 is expected to be equipped with the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, promising smooth performance, efficient multitasking, and exceptional graphics rendering. The memory will be stuck at 12 GB of RAM with internal storage ranging from 256 GB to 1 TB.

Reasons to Buy the Galaxy Z Fold 6

1 – Cutting-Edge Foldable Design

Experience the future of smartphones with a device that transforms from a compact phone to a near-tablet-sized display. With a stronger durable hinge, slimmer, tougher aluminum chassis, and lighter than its predecessor, it’ll be easier to hold and a tough nut to crack. With the rumored IP48 water resistance rating, the Z Fold 6 design is built to withstand all elements, especially the water, scratch and dust.

2 – Wider display

While the Galaxy Z Fold 6 might look almost identical to its predecessor at first sight, Samsung has made a subtle but key size adjustment. The phone is slightly shorter and a tad wider. This seemingly minor change translates to a bigger cover display by 0.1 inches. This might seem insignificant, but it makes a big difference in usability – the folded phone feels much more comfortable to hold and navigate with one hand.

3 – Better Performance

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 gets the newest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, that promises to handle even the most demanding tasks with ease. With its power and energy-saving efficiency, it will contribute to the overall phone’s long battery life.

4 – Improved Camera System

The Z Fold 6 will capture stunning photos and videos with a minor upgrade to the camera system. The only change will be the added 12 MP ultrawide camera sensor which will take better low-light images and video. With the added AI features, Samsung believes it will enhances the camera system, letting you unleash your creativity on the go.

5 – Software & Galaxy AI Features

The Z Fold 6 isn’t just about the hardware; it boasts some clever AI tricks thanks to Samsung’s Galaxy AI suite. Out of the box, you’ll get the latest Android 14 with One UI 6.1.1, offering features like customizable lock screens and AI-powered message replies. But the real star is the Galaxy AI integration, optimized for the foldable form factor. Imagine searching the web directly on the Z Fold 6’s large display with Circle to Search. Editing photos becomes more precise with Smart Select, an AI tool for object selection and overlay. Feeling artistic? The new Sketch to Image tool lets you use the S Pen to turn your doodles into edits – want sunglasses on that dog in your photo? No problem!

Need to take notes? A new transcription feature in the Note app summarizes your scribbles for easy reference. Struggling with writer’s block? The Samsung Keyboard’s Composer feature generates text based on keywords, perfect for emails, social media, or comments. Perhaps the most impressive AI feature is the enhanced Interpreter app. It utilizes both screens on the Z Fold 6 for conversation mode, displaying translations on both the main and cover displays. This fosters smoother communication between people speaking different languages. Bonus? Live translation even works within other apps!

6 – Little Bigger Battery

Don’t hold your breath for a massive battery upgrade. The Z Fold 6 gets a modest 400mAh bump, bringing it to 4,400mAh compared to its predecessor. This might seem like a small change, but it’s important to consider the Fold 6’s more powerful processor and AI features that will likely consume more energy. Essentially, the extra 400mAh could be the difference between a phone lasting a full day or dying on your commute home.

The downside is the wired charging speed, which remains at a rather slow 35 watts. But on the bright side, the phone can apparently reach 50% charge in about 30 minutes, which is decent and might help preserve the battery’s lifespan in the long run.

Reasons Not to Buy

1 – Expensive Price Tag

Foldable phones still command a premium price, and the Z Fold 6 is likely to be no exception. Consider your budget and whether the foldable features justify the cost compared to a traditional high-end phone.

2 – Durability Issues

While Samsung has improved the Z Fold’s durability, foldable phones are still a relatively new technology. There might be some lingering concerns about potential hinge issues or screen damage.

Should You Pre-order The Galaxy Z Fold 6?

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is a compelling proposition for those seeking a cutting-edge phone with a unique form factor. The improved design, powerful specs and performance, the minor improved camera and battery, and the Galaxy AI features, make it a productivity and entertainment powerhouse. However, the high price might make one reconsider. Ultimately, the decision depends on your priorities and budget. If I was you, I would wait for reviews to make a better decision on getting the Z Fold 6. If you have the older Z Fold 5, don’t rush into upgrading as yet.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip series redefined the pocket-sized phone with its innovative foldable design. Now, the highly anticipated Galaxy Z Flip 6 unfolds with even more to offer. This iteration promises improvements on its predecessor while retaining the iconic style that has made the Flip series a favorite.

The question is – Is it worth the upgrade? Should you invest in the next best smartphones knowing that your current smartphone is doing you well? These and many other questions need answers, and this article plans to do just that.  So let’s not waste any time. Let’s get to it and see if the new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 is worth the upgrade.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6

Overview

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 boasts a foldable design that allows it to compress into a compact size for easy portability. Unfolded, it reveals a stunning display for an immersive viewing experience. It’s rumored to be packed with powerful specs, including a next-generation Snapdragon processor and an upgraded camera system. Let’s take a closer look at the reasons why you might want to consider the Galaxy Z Flip 6, along with some factors that might make you hesitate.

Reasons To Buy

1 – Stylish Design & Compact

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 folds in half for unmatched portability. It easily slips into your pocket or bag, making it perfect for those on the go. When unfolded, it boasts a stunning display for an immersive viewing experience. It will also be available in stylish selection of colors, such as  Silver Shadow, Yellow, Blue and Mint (more colors available if you order online from the Samsung website).

2 – Improved Camera

The Z Flip 6 takes mobile photography to the next level with a 50 MP main camera sensor, and a 12 MP ultrawide sensor with 2x optical zoom capabilities. Capture crisp clear photos and videos, and unleash your creativity with the unique folded form factor.

3 – Enhanced Performance

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 is expected to be powered by the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, meaning you can expect smooth fast performance, efficient multitasking, and exceptional graphics rendering for flawless gaming and streaming. This will contribute to the phone’s capabilities on managing power, which means better battery life.

4 – Durability Boost

Past concerns about the Z Flip’s durability seem to be addressed with a rumored IP48 water resistance rating. This means the phone can withstand dust particles and resist water submersion for up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes.

While the rumored IP48 rating is a plus, foldable phones are still a relatively new technology, and some users might be wary of potential hinge issues or screen damage.

5 – Bigger Battery

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 is rumored to come with a larger 4,000mAh battery, a significant upgrade from its predecessor. This, combined with potential fast-charging capabilities, should keep you powered throughout the day. Thanks to it’s new chipset, you can expect a better battery life than its predecessor.

6 – AI Features

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 comes with some clever AI as well. While features like Circle-to-Search and note summarization are available on other recent Samsung phones, the Z Flip 6 gets some exclusive perks.

One such feature is the optimized Chat Assist on the cover screen. This allows you to quickly reply to texts using Suggested Replies without even unfolding the phone. Feeling multilingual? Interpreter Mode utilizes both screens for real-time conversations with translation displayed on each one.

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 also gets creative with its AI. The Gallery app’s Photo Assist lets you transform photos into sketches or cartoons, while Photo Ambient adjusts your wallpaper based on weather and time. While some features might be more practical than others, it’s clear Samsung is going all-in on AI, and the Z Flip 6 reaps the benefits.

7 – Software Support

Remember the extended software support Samsung introduced with the Galaxy S24? Good news! That same commitment applies to the Z Flip 6. This translates to several years of software and security updates. In theory, you could be rocking a practically new-feeling Galaxy Z Flip 6 well into the next decade!

Reasons Not To Buy

1 – More Expensive

Foldable phones are still a premium technology, and the Galaxy Z Flip 6 is likely to carry a hefty price tag. Consider your budget and whether the foldable features justify the cost compared to a traditional high-end phone.

2 – Limited App Optimization

Some apps might not be fully optimized for the foldable format, potentially leading to a less than ideal user experience.

3 – Cover Screen Size

The Z Flip 6 sticks with the same 3.4-inch cover screen, limiting its ability to run full apps like its competitor, the Motorola Razr Plus, that comes with a 3.9-inch cover screen. While the Z Flip 6 does utilize Galaxy AI features on the cover screen, for a more comprehensive experience, the Motorola Razr Plus might be a better choice.

4 – Slow Charging

The charging speed is a concern with the Galaxy Z Flip 6. As much as it’s an expensive smartphone, the premium features should reflect as such. Sadly, the battery will only support up to 25W charging speeds which is slower compared to other foldable smartphones.

Is The New Flip Worth it

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 promises a compelling package – a stylish foldable design, powerful performance, and an upgraded camera system. However, the price tag and lingering durability concerns might give some potential buyers pause.

Ultimately, the decision depends on your priorities. If you crave a cutting-edge phone with a unique form factor and prioritize portability, the Z Flip 6 might be the perfect match. But if budget is a major concern, or you prefer a more traditional phone design, other high-end options might be a better fit.

While the potential of foldable phones is exciting, they still have some hurdles to overcome. Here’s a breakdown of the pros and cons to help you decide if this technology is ready for your pocket:

Reasons to Buy:

  • Enhanced Productivity: The larger unfolded screen provides a more desktop-like experience, perfect for working on documents, editing photos, or browsing the web.

  • Increased Portability: Folded up, these phones are surprisingly compact, fitting comfortably in your pocket without the bulk of a traditional tablet.
  • Cutting-Edge Technology: Owning a foldable phone puts you at the forefront of mobile innovation, experiencing the future of smartphone design.

Reasons to Avoid:

  • High Price: Foldable phones are currently more expensive than traditional flagship smartphones.
  • Durability Concerns: The folding mechanism and flexible display are potential weak points, raising concerns about long-term durability.
  • Limited App Optimization: Not all apps are optimized for the foldable phones, which can lead to awkward scaling or usability issues.
  • Bulkier Than Traditional Phones: While more compact than a tablet when folded, they are still thicker than most traditional smartphones.

Best Folding Phones of 2024 So Far

From budget to top-range foldables, we have selected the best folding phones that we believe will meet all your daily needs. We know what they, how they came to be, and the reasons why we should or should not buy them. Now let’s see what the foldable smartphone market has in store for you.

Google Pixel Fold

Best Affordable Camera Flip Phone

SPECS

MAIN DISPLAY: 7.6 inches (2208 x 1840) | SECONDARY DISPLAY: 5.8 inches (2092 x 1080) | PROCESSORTensor G2 | RAM: 12GB | STORAGE: 256GB, 512GB

While Samsung’s latest foldables might be grabbing most of the headlines, Google deserves credit for a very impressive first attempt with the Pixel Fold. It’s clear they put a lot right straight out of the gate.

The Pixel Fold shines with several unique features. First, the wide 5.8-inch front display is comfortable to use and type on, unlike some cramped options on competitor devices. Second, when unfolded, it boasts the thinnest profile of any foldable phone, making it feel surprisingly sleek. And finally, the hinge is exceptionally smooth and natural-feeling when opening and closing.

Here’s more to love: a fantastic camera system with a powerful main sensor and impressive zoom capabilities, along with excellent low-light photography. The software is also well-designed, offering intuitive split-screen multitasking, convenient tabletop and tent modes, and a good selection of apps optimized for the large 7.6-inch internal display.

While the Tensor G2 processor could be a bit faster and the bezels could be slimmer, these are minor drawbacks in an otherwise excellent foldable phone. It’s a great option for those willing to invest in a premium device from Google.

Motorola Razr+

Best Design Foldable

SPECS

MAIN DISPLAY: 6.9 inches (2640 x 1080)SECONDARY DISPLAY: 3.6 inches (1066 x 1056) | PROCESSOR: Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 | RAM: 8GB | STORAGE: 256GB

Motorola’s past foldable attempts might have been a bit rough around the edges, but their latest offering, the Razr+, is finally a worthy competitor to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 5. In fact, we think it even surpasses the Flip 5 for those who prefer the classic clamshell design.

The secret weapon of the Razr+? The massive 3.6-inch cover display. With its sharp resolution, this outer screen is large enough to run many apps without ever needing to unfold the phone. When you do unfold it, a beautiful 6.9-inch display awaits, seamlessly picking up where you left off with your apps. Plus, the phone remains compact and easy to carry when closed, and the sturdy hinge keeps the Razr+ perfectly flat when open.

Sure, some might scoff at the slightly older processor (the same one used in the 2022 Galaxy Z Flip 4). But battery life won’t be a concern – the Razr+ is one of the longest-lasting foldable phones we’ve tested. So, if you’re a clamshell phone enthusiast, the Motorola Razr+ is the clear winner in this foldable phone face-off.

Nubia Flip 5G

The Budget Flip Phone

SPECS

MAIN DISPLAY: 6.9 inches (2790 x 1188) | SECONDARY DISPLAY: 1.4 inches (466 x 466) | PROCESSOR: Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 | RAM: 8GB, 12GB | STORAGE: 256GB, 512GB

The Nubia Flip 5G might not compete head-to-head with the high-end foldables on this list. Camera quality falls short, and software updates might be scarce. However, with a price tag of just $499, it opens the door to foldable phone technology for a wider audience. That’s a win for affordability in the foldable market.

Despite the limitations, the Nubia Flip 5G boasts a stylish design with a smudge-resistant matte finish that makes it look more expensive than its price tag suggests. The unfolded 6.9-inch display offers a generous viewing experience. Battery life might be average, but the phone redeems itself with speedy 33W fast charging.

So, if you’re on a tight budget and the allure of a foldable phone is irresistible, the Nubia Flip 5G is a viable option. Just be aware of the compromises you’re making in camera quality and software support.

OnePlus Open

Best Folding Phone To Date

SPECS

MAIN DISPLAY: 7.8 inches (2440 x 2268) | SECONDARY DISPLAY: 6.3 inches (2484 x 1116) | PROCESSOR: Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 | RAM: 16GB | STORAGE: 512GB

Move over, Samsung and Google! The OnePlus Open is here to claim the best folding phone crown. It boasts the biggest main screen on the market at a large 7.8 inches, all while staying surprisingly thin and light thanks to its clever hinge design. And the best part? It achieves all this at a price point of US$100 lower than its competitors.

OnePlus proves you don’t have to break the bank for a premium foldable experience. They haven’t skimped on quality either – the Open takes fantastic photos (except in low-light), and the “Open Canvas” multitasking features are a game-changer. These features let you run multiple apps simultaneously on resizable windows, finally treating the foldable phone like the true multi-tasking tablet it can be.

The OnePlus Open isn’t just a great foldable phone; it’s a major leap forward for the entire industry. It delivers exceptional performance, a massive screen, and innovative software features, all at a competitive price. If you’re looking to fold into the future of mobile tech, the OnePlus Open is the most compelling option yet.

MAIN DISPLAY: 7.6 inches (2208 x 1840) | SECONDARY DISPLAY: 5.8 inches (2092 x 1080) | PROCESSORTensor G2 | RAM: 12GB | STORAGE: 256GB, 512GB

Samsung may have been dethroned when it comes to the king of clamshell foldables, but the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is by no means a bad phone. It benefits from several improvements over its predecessor.

Similar to the Z Fold 5, the Z Flip 5 gets a boost thanks to the One UI 6.1 update, bringing new AI features to the table. The most noticeable change is the upgraded front display – the tiny screen from earlier models is replaced with a much more usable Flex Window. While it won’t replace full phone use, it’s great for displaying app widgets and notifications.

The cameras remain excellent, and the overall design, battery life, and processing power have all seen improvements. While it might not be a revolutionary leap forward, the Z Flip 5 is still a solid option with some notable upgrades. If you’re looking for a stylish and functional foldable phone, the Z Flip 5 is worth considering, but keep in mind there might be stronger contenders out there.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5

Most Improved Folding Phone

SPECS

MAIN DISPLAY: 7.6 inches (2176 x 1812) | SECONDARY DISPLAY: 6.2 inches (2316 x 904) | PROCESSOR: Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 | RAM: 12GB | STORAGE: 256GB, 512GB, 1TB

While the Galaxy Z Fold 5 might not be a revolutionary leap from its predecessor, the Z Fold 4, Samsung’s tweaks add up. These improvements are enough to keep it near the top of the foldable phone heap, even against challengers like the Pixel Fold.

The key changes are a new Flex hinge that makes the phone lighter and folds flatter, along with upgrades to the cameras, main display, performance, and multitasking abilities. This combination positions the Z Fold 5 as a well-rounded, high-quality foldable phone across all aspects. The optional S Pen support adds another layer of appeal, letting you unleash your productivity on this powerful portable device.

Here’s a bonus point: a recent software update (One UI 6.1) brings the latest Galaxy AI features (introduced with the Galaxy S24) to the Z Fold 5, further enhancing its capabilities.

Should You Get One of The Best Folding Phones?

The answer depends on you… also your needs and priorities, of course. If you’re a tech enthusiast who craves the latest and greatest, and prioritize a large, immersive display, then a foldable phone might be worth the investment. However, if you’re on a tight budget or value durability above all else, a traditional smartphone might be a better choice for now.

The foldable phone market is still young and rapidly evolving. Manufacturers are constantly addressing the downsides, making these devices more durable, affordable, and user-friendly. Before you take the plunge, consider your budget, needs, and risk tolerance. However, one thing is certain: foldable phones are here to stay, and they’re poised to revolutionize the way we interact with our mobile devices.

Best Android Smartphones With Long Battery Life in 2024

Let’s face it, our smartphones are like trusty companions these days. They’re our cameras, our entertainment hubs, our social lifelines, and sometimes, even our emergency toilet paper dispensers (don’t judge!). But there’s one thing that can turn this love affair sour faster than accidentally liking your ex’s holiday photos – a dying battery. Fear not, fellow adventurers (or should we say, adventurers with low battery anxiety)! This article is your one-stop guide to the best smartphones with long battery life. We’re talking devices that can power you through a Lord of the Rings marathon on a plane ride, a week-long music festival without needing a power bank the size of a brick, or even an accidental zombie apocalypse (hey, you never know!). So, ditch the charger (well, maybe not entirely) and get ready to explore the world of smartphones that won’t leave you hanging – literally.

Benefits of Smartphones With Long Battery Life

So why is this important? Why must we consider having a smartphone with a long battery life? Let’s look at the reasons why you must have a smartphone with a long life battery.

  • Reduced anxiety: You won’t have to constantly worry about your phone dying in the middle of the day, especially if you’re out and about without access to a charger.
  • More freedom and flexibility: A long-lasting battery allows you to use your phone more freely, without having to restrict your activities or constantly search for an outlet.
  • Uninterrupted entertainment: Stream movies, play games, or browse social media for extended periods without worrying about your phone cutting out prematurely.
  • Increased productivity: You can work on your phone for longer stretches without needing to take breaks for charging, allowing you to get more done throughout the day.
  • Better travel companion: Long battery life is a lifesaver on long journeys, letting you use your phone for entertainment, navigation, or communication without fear of running out of power.
  • Potential for faster charging: Phones with larger batteries often support faster charging technologies, allowing you to quickly top up your battery when needed.
  • Can be a backup power source: In a pinch, a phone with a long-lasting battery can even be used to share some power with other devices.

From the list above, it’s clear that it’s really important to have a smartphone that can last longer than just a day. If your phone right now is not giving you these benefits, then I think it’s time you consider thinking about switching. From budget to midrange, there’s always a smartphone ready and waiting for you to get.

Smartphones With Long Battery Life

We have taken the liberty of listing some of the best recommended smartphones with long battery life. From Nothing to Samsung, even Asus, these smartphones are guaranteed to last.

Nothing Phone 2a

Big Battery, Big Value (But Limited Availability)

DISPLAY: 6.7-inches, AMOLED, 1080 x 2412, 120Hz, HDR10+ | PROCESSOR: Mediatek Dimensity 7200 Pro | MEMORY: 8GB or 12GB RAM | STORAGE: 128GB or 256GB | OS: Android 14, Nothing OS 5.5 | BATTERY: 5000 mAh | CAMERA: 50 MP (wide), 50 MP (ultrawide), up to 4K videos at 30fps, 32 MP (wide) selfie camera

Despite its budget-friendly price tag (under $350!), the Nothing Phone 2a punches above its weight in the battery life department. The phone’s 5,000 mAh battery and MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro chip work together to deliver an impressive 15 hours on our battery test, even with the display refresh rate set to high. This means you can enjoy smooth visuals without sacrificing battery life.

Adding to the phone’s appeal is its surprisingly fast charging capability. Unlike many affordable options, the Nothing Phone 2a boasts 45W wired charging, allowing you to quickly top up your battery when needed. However, there’s a catch – getting your hands on this phone might be tricky. Currently, U.S. availability for the Nothing Phone 2a is limited. So, if you’re interested in this budget champion with a powerful battery, be prepared to do some hunting.

Samsung Galaxy S24+

Nearly All-Day Battery Life for the Galaxy S24 Plus

DISPLAY: 6.7-inches, Dynamic AMOLED 2x, 1440 x 3120, 120Hz, HDR10+ | PROCESSOR: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 (USA/Canada/China) or Exynos 2400 (Global) | MEMORY: 12GB RAM | STORAGE: 256GB or 512GB | OS: Android 14, One UI 6.1 | BATTERY: 4900 mAh  | CAMERA: 50 MP (wide), 10 MP (telephoto), 12 MP (ultrawide), up to 4K videos at 30 fps, 12 MP (wide) selfie camera

The Galaxy S24 Plus goes toe-to-toe with its bigger brother, the S24 Ultra, in terms of battery life. It lasted just 13 minutes less on our test, which is very impressive for a phone with a slightly smaller battery (4,900 mAh). This long-lasting performance is thanks to the efficient Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor (although keep in mind some regions get the Exynos 2400 chip).

Don’t expect any charging speed upgrades here. The S24 Plus sticks with 45W wired charging, just like the previous model. But with a compatible charger, you can still get a quick boost – we reached 72% in 30 minutes, matching the S24 Ultra’s charging speed. See the Samsung Galaxy S24 review.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra

The New King of Battery Life (But Bring Your Own Charger)

DISPLAY: 6.8-inches, Dynamic AMOLED 2x, 1440 x 3120, 120Hz, HDR10+ | PROCESSOR: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 | MEMORY: 12GB RAM | STORAGE: 256GB or 512GB or 1TB | OS: Android 14, One UI 6.1  | BATTERY: 5000mAh | CAMERA: 200 MP (wide), 10 MP (telephoto) with 3x optical zoom, 50 MP (periscope telephoto) with 5x optical zoom, 12 MP (ultrawide), up to 8K videos at 30fps, 12 MP (wide) selfie camera

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra dethrones all previous champions, claiming the title of longest-lasting flagship phone we’ve ever tested. It nearly reaches the 17-hour mark, surpassing last year’s Motorola flagship by an hour and leaving Apple’s latest models in the dust by a full 2.5 hours. Impressively, Samsung achieved this feat without increasing the battery size.

The secret sauce lies in the highly efficient Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, which effectively manages power consumption even with the adaptive refresh rate enabled. While charging speeds remain capped at 45W, we were able to achieve a 71% charge in just 30 minutes using a compatible 45W USB-C charger. However, be prepared to purchase this charger separately, as Samsung doesn’t include it in the box. See the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra review.

OnePlus 12

Flagship Power with Long-Lasting Battery Life

DISPLAY: 6.82-inches, AMOLED, 1440 x 3168, 120Hz, HDR10+ | PROCESSOR: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3  | MEMORY: 12GB or 16GB or 24GB RAM | STORAGE: 256GB or 512GB or 1TB | OS: Android 14, OxygenOS 14 | BATTERY: 5400mAh | CAMERA: 50 MP (wide), 48 MP (ultrawide), 64 MP (periscope telephoto) with 3x optical zoom, up to 8K videos at 24fps, 32 MP (wide) selfie camera

While the OnePlus 12R takes the crown for battery life in the series, the flagship OnePlus 12 shouldn’t be overlooked. It clocks in at a very respectable 17.5 hours on our tests, thanks to a sizable 5,400 mAh battery and the efficient Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip. This impressive endurance comes even with the phone’s adaptive display turned on, allowing you to enjoy smooth refresh rates without sacrificing battery life.

One advantage the OnePlus 12 holds over its more affordable sibling is the return of wireless charging – a welcome feature for many users. Plus, wired charging speeds reach 80W in the U.S., while wireless charging offers speeds of up to 50W. See the OnePlus 12 review

Asus Zenfone 11 Ultra

A Stamina Champ with a Stunning Display (But Needs Some Camera Work)

DISPLAY: 6.78-inches, AMOLED, 1080 x 2400, 144Hz, HDR10 | PROCESSOR: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 | MEMORY: 12GB or 16GB RAM | STORAGE: 256GB or 512GB | OS: Android 14 | BATTERY: 5500mAh | CAMERA: 50 MP (wide), 32 MP (telephoto) with 3x optical zoom, 13 MP (ultrawide), up to 8K videos at 24fps, 32 MP (wide) selfie camera

The bronze medal goes to the Asus Zenfone 11 Ultra. Continuing their trend of marathon battery life, Asus hits another home run with the Zenfone 11 Ultra. This phone joins the ranks of its gaming phone siblings by lasting nearly 18 hours on our battery test, even with a large 6.78-inch display. But the Zenfone 11 Ultra boasts more than just endurance. Asus equips it with a particularly vivid and colorful display, perfect for enjoying all kinds of content.

We’re also impressed with the 6-axis gimbal stabilizing the 50MP main camera, ensuring smooth and steady footage. However, the phone’s photo processing could use some refinement for truly exceptional pictures. Just like other recent Asus phones, the Zenfone 11 Ultra supports 65W wired charging for quick power-ups. Be aware though, you’ll need to supply your own charger to unlock this feature.

OnePlus 12R

Battery Champ at a Mid-Range Price

DISPLAY: 6.78-inches, AMOLED, 1264 x 2780, 120Hz, HDR10+ | PROCESSOR: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 | MEMORY: 8GB or 12GB or 16GB RAM | STORAGE: 128GB or 256GB | OS: Android 14, OxygenOS 14 | BATTERY: 5500mAh | CAMERA: 50 MP (wide), 2 MP (macro), 8 MP (ultrawide), up to 4K videos at 30fps, 16MP (wide) selfie camera

In second place – the OnePlus 12R. The OnePlus 12R takes the crown for the longest-lasting non-gaming phone. This champion boasts a massive 5,500 mAh battery and the power-efficient Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip (used in many other battery life leaders). This combo lets you crush a full day and more on a single charge. Don’t let the “older” chipset fool you – it’s the key to the OnePlus 12R’s attractive price.

In the U.S., you can snag a 128GB model for just $499, with other regions starting at $599 for 256GB. Despite the budget-friendly price tag, OnePlus keeps its signature fast charging. The U.S. version features 80W wired charging, blasting your phone to a whopping 96% in just 30 minutes. However, be aware that wireless charging is not included.

Asus ROG Phone 8 Pro

Battery Beast with Blazing-Fast Charging

DISPLAY: 6.78-inches, AMOLED, 1080 x 2400, 165Hz, HDR10 | PROCESSOR: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 | MEMORY: 16GB or 24GB RAM | STORAGE: 512GB or 1TB | OS: Android 14 | BATTERY: 5500mAh | CAMERA: 50 MP (wide), 32 MP (telephoto) with 3x optical zoom, 13 MP (ultrawide), up to 8K video at 24fps, 32 MP (wide) selfie camera

Guess who’s taking the gold nugget in the list – Yep, you guessed it, the Asus ROG Phone 8 Pro. Despite a smaller battery compared to its predecessor, the ROG Phone 8 Pro blows expectations out of the water with nearly 19 hours of battery life. That’s a whopping 16 minutes longer than the previous record holder, the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate!

This phone is a gamer’s dream – you can say goodbye to battery anxiety during intense gaming sessions. The included 65W charger is another champion. It can juice it up to 71% in just 30 minutes, with a full charge taking only 50 minutes. So, mark your calendars! This long-lasting powerhouse, the ROG Phone 8 Pro, is one of the best smartphones with long battery life.

Lastly

So there you have it! This list should equip you with all the knowledge you need to find the perfect smartphone with a battery life that can keep up with your demanding lifestyle (or lack thereof, no judgment here). Remember, a phone with a long battery life is like a loyal friend – it’ll always be there for you, no matter how many cat videos you watch or social media spirals you have.

So what’s next? Pick one of these smartphones with long battery life, click on a link, and get one. Just don’t forget to call your mom occasionally, even if your phone has the battery life to last until next Tuesday.

Xiaomi 14 Ultra Review: Better Camera With Few Upgrades

Xiaomi 14 Ultra review

Xiaomi 14 Ultra

“The Xiaomi 14 Ultra remains the best camera phone you can buy today”

Overview

The Xiaomi 14 Ultra might not be a massive leap from the 13 Ultra, but it offers some key improvements without messing with a winning formula. With the camera, the main focus is on the camera system. The new sensor boasts a truly variable aperture (not just two settings) for more creative control. The telephoto cameras gain impressive close-focusing capabilities and a slightly brighter lens on the longer zoom.

The phone gets a durability upgrade with a new in-house screen glass and potentially tougher “non-leather leather.” The global version receives a new aluminum alloy frame, while China enjoys a fancy (and expensive) titanium option. While the display improvements are subtle (slightly brighter), the phone packs the latest Snapdragon chip for expected performance gains. This area remains a weak spot. The global version keeps the same capacity as the 13 Ultra, while China gets a small bump. Overall, battery life might not be class-leading.

The Xiaomi 14 Ultra might not be a radical change, but it refines the already excellent 13 Ultra in key areas. It remains a top contender for the best camera phone title, but be prepared for a premium price and some limitations in battery life. Let’s delve more into the Xiaomi 14 Ultra review.

Specs

Display 6.73-inch OLED 3,200 x 1,440-pixel with 120Hz
Processor Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 (4nm)
Memory 12GB | 16GB
Storage 256GB | 512GB | 1TB
Camera (Rear) 50MP (wide), 50MP (telephoto), 50MP (periscope telephoto), 50MP (ultrawide), up to 8K video at 30fps
Camera (Selfie) 32MP (wide), up to 4K video at 60fps
Battery 5,000mAh, 90W fast charging
OS Android 14 (HyperOS)

Familiar Design with Material Makeovers

The Xiaomi 14 Ultra looks a lot like its predecessor, but with some key improvements under the hood. Here’s a breakdown.

At the back panel, there’s the familiar “circle” camera bump, which is possibly larger but serves no particular purpose. The transition to the camera is flatter compared to the 13 Ultra. The new “nano-tech” synthetic leather is softer and more durable. The global model comes in white and black, while China gets a tempting blue glass option. A black titanium frame version with a stealthy look exists in China (not globally available yet, and potentially very expensive).

At the front panel, there’s a newer Xiaomi Shield Glass protection which promises 10x better drop resistance than the 13 Ultra’s Gorilla Glass. It comes with a 6.73-inch OLED display, with a conveniently placed in-screen fingerprint reader. Other Features include an IP68 water resistance rating and a stronger aluminum alloy frame (claimed to be 1.38x stronger and twice as rigid as the 13 Pro, not the 13 Ultra).

While the overall design stays familiar, Xiaomi has made some interesting changes in materials, potentially improving durability and offering new aesthetic options (especially for those in China).

Brighter Display

The Xiaomi 14 Ultra’s display keeps the same size (6.73-inch OLED), resolution (1440×3200), and 1-120Hz refresh rate as the 13 Ultra. It still boasts 12-bit color depth, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision support, and likely uses both PWM and DC dimming for smooth visuals.

The main upgrade seems to be peak brightness, with Xiaomi claiming a jump from 2,600 to 3,000 nits. Our tests showed a slight increase in brightness compared to the 13 Ultra, especially with adaptive brightness in bright light. Additionally, a new “Sunlight mode” lets you manually boost brightness to around 710 nits.

Refresh rate remains adaptive, dropping down to 10Hz or even 1Hz for static content and adjusting to match video frame rates or game requirements. Both 60Hz and 120Hz modes are available with some adaptive behavior within each. The 14 Ultra supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision for streaming content and features Widevine L1 compliance for high-resolution playback. It also supports Google’s Ultra HDR standard for capturing and displaying 10-bit images in compatible apps.

Overall, while the core display specs remain unchanged, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra offers a potentially brighter viewing experience with some software enhancements for HDR content and photo viewing.

Powerful Performance

The Xiaomi 14 Ultra packs the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, just like most other high-end phones in 2024. This chip is a known quantity and delivers a noticeable performance boost over last year’s models. The global version comes with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, while China gets additional options including a 12GB/256GB version.

While benchmark scores position the phone well within the top tier, it’s not the absolute leader. It excels more in CPU tasks than graphics. A “Performance” mode in the settings doesn’t significantly impact benchmark results. The good news is that the phone handles heat well. Even under sustained load, throttling is minimal, meaning consistent performance even during demanding tasks. In the end, the 14 Ultra is a solid performing smartphone.

Below but Acceptable Battery Life

The global Xiaomi 14 Ultra has the same 5,000mAh battery as its predecessor, while the Chinese version gets a slight bump to 5,300mAh (not available globally). Battery life isn’t class-leading, but it’s decent. The biggest improvement is in gaming, lasting 33% longer than the 13 Ultra (still not the best, but better). Web browsing and call times are average, while video playback is below average.

The good news, it’s supports fast charging. The included 90W charger gets you from 0 to 100% in about 33 minutes, slightly slower than the 13 Pro’s 120W charging but still very fast. Third-party 65W chargers work too, getting you to 50% in 30 minutes. The 14 Ultra also supports 80W wireless charging with a compatible stand (sold separately), which requires a separate 120W adapter (also not included). Even without the extra adapter, you should still get good wireless charging speeds. Overall, below average battery life, but fast charging capabilities.

Small Camera Upgrades

The Xiaomi 14 Ultra’s camera system might seem like a minor update at first glance, but there are some key improvements. The biggest change is the close-up focusing ability on both telephoto lenses. The 3x zoom can now focus as close as 4 inches (10cm), and the 5x periscope lens focuses as close as 1 foot (30cm). The 5x lens also gets a slight bump in brightness.

As for the main camera, the main sensor is upgraded thanks to the newer lens. It’s brighter and offers a wider range of aperture options for more control in Pro mode. No changes to the ultrawide and selfie cameras. The ultrawide keeps the same camera sensor and autofocus lens, while the selfie camera retains its 32MP OmniVision sensor and fixed-focus lens.

The Xiaomi 14 Ultra offers impressive video recording capabilities. All cameras (front and back) can shoot 4K video at 60fps. Rear cameras can also record in 4K at 24, 4K at 30, and even 8K at 24fps or 30fps. The main camera additionally supports 4K at 120 for super slow-motion. Video stabilization is excellent and works in all resolutions and frame rates (except 4K120). You can disable it in Director’s mode for specific creative choices.

The Xiaomi 14 Ultra Photography Kit

The 14 Ultra delivers some of the best video quality available right now. All rear cameras offer excellent dynamic range, color reproduction, and detail (especially the main camera at 4K120fps). Even 60fps video maintains good quality. Stabilization is superb, smoothing out walking shake and keeping footage steady.

In low-light conditions, the main camera performs well, matching the Galaxy S24 Ultra in detail and offering wider dynamic range. The Find X7 Ultra might be slightly better. The ultrawide camera struggles a bit with low light, showing some color desaturation and noise. The telephoto cameras (both 3.2x and 5x) capture good detail in low light, with the 3.2x outperforming the Galaxy S24 Ultra and the 5x slightly exceeding the Find X7 Ultra’s 6x telephoto.

Overall. The camera system works well. there are minor upgrades to the zooming and the overall picture quality of the camera. The videos you can record are stunning at 4K screen resolution and the videos stabilization is an added bonus.

Verdict

The Xiaomi 14 Ultra isn’t a surprise. We knew it would be expensive, have a mediocre selfie camera, and likely struggle with battery life (like its predecessor).

However, it builds on the strengths of the previous 13 Ultra. The telephoto cameras are now fantastic for both close-up and long-range shots, and the variable aperture on the main camera offers more creative control. The real star of the show is the improved Photography Kit accessory. It elevates the phone to a near-professional camera experience, but it does add to the already high cost.

Overall, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra remains the best camera phone you can buy today, but be prepared for a hefty price tag and some minor drawbacks.

The Top Best Selling iPhones of 2024 Thus Far

Smartphones have become an undeniable cornerstone of modern life. With their ever-expanding capabilities, they connect us, inform us, and entertain us. In this competitive landscape, Apple’s iPhones continue to be a major force. Today, we delve into the best-selling iPhones in the first quarter of 2024, based on recent reports.

According to Counterpoint Research, Apple secured the top spot with the iPhone 15 Pro Max, its most feature-packed and expensive model. This flagship phone captured a significant 4.4% market share, making it the best-selling smartphone of first quarter of 2024. Notably, this is the first time a Pro Max variant has achieved this feat in a non-seasonal quarter, suggesting a potential shift in consumer preference towards high-end devices.

Apple’s success wasn’t limited to the Pro Max. The iPhone 15 smartphone series as a whole dominated the charts, with the iPhone 15 capturing a 4.3% market share, the iPhone 15 Pro capturing 3.7% market share, and the new iPhone 15 Plus only capturing a 1.3% market share.

The standard iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Pro, and even the previous year’s iPhone 14 (1.9% market share) followed closely behind the Pro Max, securing the second, third, and fourth positions respectively. This dominance highlights the overall appeal of the iPhone 15 series. It’s worth noting the growing popularity of the Pro line, with these models capturing half of Apple’s total sales in the first quarter of 2024 compared to just 24% in the same quarter of 2020.

Best Selling iPhones of 2024

Here are more details of the best-selling iPhones of 2024.

iPhone 15 Plus

A Capable Contender, But Questionable Value

The Apple iPhone 15 Plus is one of the least best selling iPhones thus far. It offers clear improvements over its predecessor in display, battery life, camera, performance, and battery charging. However, it falls short of the iPhone Pro models in several key areas: lacks the latest chip, no telephoto camera, lacks autofocus ultrawide, no high refresh rate display, and no customizable Action Button. These missing features will end up being the dealbreakers for some users.

Apple’s pricing strategy might hurt the 15 Plus, similar to the 14 Plus. It sits in an awkward spot – offering features of the cheaper iPhone but priced closer to the Pro models. While the iPhone 15 Plus itself is a good phone, its high price compared to both current and previous generation iPhones and even some Android devices makes it a tough recommendation. This positioning creates a difficult situation and raises questions about the future of the Plus lineup as a whole.

iPhone 14

Familiar Face, With Not-Enough New Features

The Apple iPhone 14 was, and still is, an evolution, not a revolution. Here’s a quick rundown of its features: The internal design makes replacing the back panel or screen a easier, it comes with a slightly larger battery with significant improvements in battery life and faster charging. The A15 Bionic chip gets a power-up with 5 GPU cores and 50% more RAM. It comes with connectivity upgrades, such as Bluetooth 5.3, a more efficient 5G modem, and emergency satellite connectivity for SOS messages. Better camera system, thanks to the larger main sensor, autofocus selfie camera, better low-light photos, and new video stabilization features.

While these are solid upgrades, they might not be reason enough to upgrade from an iPhone 13 or even 12. The biggest camera improvements are faster low-light capture, and the autofocus selfie camera might be the only real game-changer for some. Overall, the iPhone 14 is a dependable phone with some nice upgrades, but it lacks the excitement factor for recent iPhone owners. Budget-minded users might consider the iPhone 13 with potentially longer software support thanks to the A15 Bionic chip. No matter which you choose, you’re getting a solid phone that will last for years.

iPhone 15 Pro

Familiar Formula, Steady Upgrades (But Some Missed Opportunities)

The iPhone 15 Pro is a safe, iterative update. It offers modest improvements in key areas, but some aspects remain unchanged. For example, the exciting 5x telephoto lens is exclusive to the Pro Max, which is a letdown even if it’s not a huge dealbreaker. The usual downsides persist. This includes: high price tag, basic accessories, occasional iOS quirks, and performance throttling. However, Apple’s strengths are undeniably strong – premium build quality, stunning display, versatile camera system, and excellent speakers. And it comes with a USB-C port. Overall, the iPhone 15 Pro delivers what you expect: the best small-sized iPhone yet. It’s a solid choice for those due for an upgrade, but it won’t wow recent iPhone Pro owners.

iPhone 15

The Solid Entry-Level Model

Apple’s most affordable entry-model iPhone doesn’t feel like a distant cousin of the high-end models. For the first time, all iPhones get the sleek Dynamic Island display instead of the notch. The iPhone 15 pairs this beautiful screen with a stylish design featuring new materials and comfortable curved edges. But it’s not just looks! The iPhone 15 packs a punch with the powerful A16 Bionic chip and the long-awaited USB-C port for faster charging. Apple even upped the camera game with a new 48MP sensor and improved portrait features.

Overall, the iPhone 15 is the clear winner. You get all the new features and a fantastic experience without feeling like you’re missing out on the best Apple has to offer. If you have an older iPhone, the iPhone 15 is a worthy upgrade. However, it’s important to remember that Android phones generally offer better hardware and value. For some, that extra value might outweigh staying within the Apple brand.

iPhone 15 Pro Max

The Top-Selling Flagship

One of the best selling iPhones, if not the best selling, is the Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max. The iPhone 15 Pro Max might not win you over with its fancy materials (titanium frame) or a niche feature like a 5x telephoto lens. Even the powerful graphics chip won’t be fully utilized by most games right now.

So, what makes it worth it? The iPhone 15 Pro Max delivers a top-notch user experience, a luxurious design, premium services and warranty, smooth and reliable iOS, and a versatile camera system. This phone is a videographer’s dream, with the ability to capture high-quality 4K ProRes videos directly to external storage. While iPhone 14 Pro/Max users might not need to upgrade immediately, this is a significant leap forward from the 13 Pro Max and a major overhaul from the 12 Pro Max.

Potential Downsides? It does come with a really high price tag, that’s the first thing. the other thing is the reports of overheating or throttling of the 15 Pro Max, although this hasn’t been universally experienced.

Overall, you should consider the iPhone 15 Pro Max. It’s the best iPhone ever made, offering a stunning design, beautiful display, excellent performance, superb cameras and video, and long battery life. Even with some potential issues, it remains a top contender in the smartphone market. Is it the absolute best phone? It depends on your needs and priorities. But if you crave the ultimate Apple experience, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is a perfect fit.

The iPhone 15 Pro Max reigned supreme in Q1 2024, with the entire iPhone 15 family showcasing impressive sales figures. This trend might indicate a maturing smartphone market where users prioritize advanced features and functionality over strictly budget-friendly options. Not that the cheaper iPhones are worse off, they just have lesser features yet still function well, thanks to their specs and other features.

Although the iPhone 15 Pro Max takes the crown for one of the best selling iPhones this year, it’s not the perfect smartphone out there. There are other equally powerful smartphones to consider.
