Platinum Games has long been regarded as a frontrunner in the action genre, and Bayonetta 3 exemplifies why. It’s fast, reflex-intensive, and contains challenging action combat that gives you an abundance of freedom and expression in how you can execute your foes.

Both the story and the performance on the Nintendo Switch are not the best, but neither is it significant enough to overwhelm the top action combat, out-of-this-world weapon variety, and distinct style.

This is a significantly more ambitious sequel than its more repetitive predecessor, and it pays off handsomely. It is a pity that it’s only available on the Nintendo Switch, unlike older titles that are available on other popular consoles.

While I’m excited about the new gameplay direction, I wish that the same care and attention were paid to every area of the adventure.

Overall, Pokémon Legends Arceus is the best Pokémon catcher and collector there has ever been, yet I feel that with a little more time at fine-tuning the detail in the environment, this game would get better review scores and more appreciation from the Pokémon fans.

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope

Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope takes the excellent turn-based tactical action combat ideas from its predecessor and completely turns it into a fun, wild and crazy adventure, that made its way to be nominated as one of the top Nintendo Switch games of 2022.

Its wacky characters that still jump off one other, are now free of the grid and marvelously customizable thanks to the mix-and-match Sparks that grant them new and consistently surprising powers.

Explore castles and caves with Mario and his friends.

Its goofy characters still have the ability to bounce off of each other, but they’re now free of the rigid grid and wonderfully customizable thanks to the mix-and-match Sparks that give them new and reliably interesting powers.

Between fights you get to catch your breath in the large and brilliantly colorful open worlds, solving its light puzzles and being puzzled yourself by its oddball story. It’s extremely gratifying to play the ambitious sequel that fixes all of the main issues from the last game, and then some.

Even if not all of the new concepts it offers along the way work as well as others, they all contribute to keeping things as fresh as a new bag of trash. But Stray does a fantastic job at differentiating itself in a way that seems like more than simply a curiosity, whether I was clawing at a carpet or balling up and enjoying a catnap.

A Plague Tale Requiem

Even so, this is a remarkable open-world action-adventure game that addresses a number of long-standing problems in the genre while still being a ton of fun to play as a samurai.

This is despite 87 hours of blood, sweat, and tears that included some of the most challenging battles I’ve ever engaged in as well as countless surprises.

All of this is on top of the PVP and cooperative play, both of which I have only just begun to explore. Even though the core combat mechanics haven’t changed, the foes look even more savage, and the bosses are even more devastating. This brings even more elevated confrontations and surprise to a whole new level.

What I was given can easily be ranked among the finest open-world games I’ve ever played, even with all the threads I failed to pull on my first playtime (of many, I’m sure).

From first impressions, it looks pretty, with a sleek platinum white finish, a 12.4-inch HD touch screen, and a stunning keyboard layout with a large mouse pad. In terms of the internal specs, the Surface Laptop Go 2 will include an 11th generation Intel Core i5 processor, with either a 4GB or 8GB of memory, internal storage of either 128GB or 256GB, and an Intel Iris Xe graphics processor.

In terms of connectivity WiFi and Bluetooth is available, and input ports include a USB-C, USB-A, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and a ‘Surface Connect’ port. Starting at under US$1000 this is a laptop for those who work remotely. It’s lightweight and portable so you can move around with it at ease. The laptop looks stunning. The platinum finish makes it look elegant and professional. The touchscreen display looks good. It’s an HD display with a 1024p screen resolution yet the display quality looks impressive with clear and good color accuracy.

In terms of performance, the Surface Laptop Go 2 includes an Intel Core i5 processor that expects to perform your daily tasks well. The memory or RAM available is sufficient enough as long as you don’t leave apps and documents on standby that will end up slowing the Surface laptop.

The 8GB of RAM is a better choice as it allows you to store more apps in memory. With internal storage, you get either 128GB or 256GB SSD, which is a fast-loading drive than HDD. For now, there’s no mention of getting bigger storage.

Before we get there here are a couple of things you need to look out for when choosing a budget laptop.

What to Look Out For

First, get a budget laptop with a 10 or 15-inch screen. It must be between Full-HD (recommended) or an HD (least) screen resolution. They look good with great visuals and clear sharp images. Also, make sure that it’s 1366 x 768 (HD) or 1920 x 1080 (Full HD).

Next is the RAM or Random Access Memory. It pretty much means how many apps it can handle when you open up or leave apps on standby until it starts to lag or freeze. The least is 4GB of RAM, which each of these laptops below is included.

Thirdly, is the storage. HDD is the least option. It’s slow loading but drops the laptop price. Whereas, there’s also SSD. It loads apps faster but makes the laptop more expensive. The Galaxy S22, however, promises to beat the current S21, with even more interesting specs and features, such as a better camera, longer battery life, faster performance, etc. If you have a Galaxy S21 and feel you need to change, let this article help you decide if it’s worth changing to the newer Galaxy S22. We’ll explore the main notable features and compare them to see which one is best for you.

Display

With the display, there’s a difference in sizes. The Samsung Galaxy S22 5G has a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED screen, whereas the Galaxy S21 has a 6.2-inch Dynamic AMOLED.

The Galaxy S22 may be shorter in size but it also comes with a better adaptive refresh rate that helps to optimize the overall navigation and display quality.

If you compare the design of the Galaxy S21 and the Samsung Galaxy S22 5G, you will notice that they are exactly the same. Same camera positioning. Same button positioning.

The Galaxy S22, however, looks more refined and premium, as it comes with improved Gorilla Glass front and back protection to increase durability, whereas the Galaxy S21 comes with Gorilla Glass Front and plastic back. Then the S22 comes in exciting colors such as the standard Phantom Black, White, Pink Gold, and Green. If you purchase the S22 online you get access to other more exotic colors such as Graphite, Cream, Sky Blue, and Violet. In short, Samsung Galaxy S22 5G comes with more choices of colors, has a more premium look, and comes with improved glass protection.

Performance

Looking at the smartphone specs, both the Galaxy S22 and the S21 come with good performance chips, that can help to optimize the speed and performance of the smartphones. The S22, however, will include the latest processing chips upon release from Snapdragon and Exynos. And if it includes a 4nm 8-core processing chip, then it means the S22 will be faster and perform better.

For now, we cannot say which one is the better performance smartphone just from specs. Until the S22 is reviewed, tested and benchmark scores are taken, then we can compare and say which is the better-performance smartphone.

Battery Life

With battery capacity, the Galaxy S21 comes with a 4000mAh, whereas the Samsung Galaxy S22 5G will include a 3700mAh battery pack. The Galaxy S21 comes with a larger battery pack that upon moderate use, can last up to 4 days on one charge. With the improved refresh rate on the S22, which can help preserve battery power, until the S22’s battery life is tested we cannot compare it yet until review.

For now, the idea to include a smaller battery in the Galaxy S22 is not a good one because a smaller battery means shorter battery life. Let’s hope that, upon review, there’ll be other features included in the S22 to help preserve even more battery life.

Camera

The Galaxy S21 and the Samsung Galaxy S22 5G smartphones have the following similarities:

The 12 MP ultrawide sensor at the rear
The main camera supports 8K video recording
The 10 MP wide sensor at the front camera
The front camera supports 4K video recording

The difference here is that the S22 comes with a 50 MP wide sensor camera, whereas the S21 comes with a 12 MP wide sensor camera. The S22 will come with a 10 MP sensor (will include 3x optical zoom), whereas the Galaxy S21 comes with a 64 MP (includes 3x hybrid zoom).

The camera features are all well and good. They are both capable of taking incredible pictures and videos that are clear, sharp, and detailed. The 3x optical zoom on the S22 will look better than the 3x hybrid zoom on the Galaxy S21 as the zoom quality will look better.

For now, I can say we cannot really compare which one is better off unless we take pictures with either phone and compare picture quality. But the S21 does do a good job of taking great pictures. We hope the S22 can match it or even be better.

The starting price for the Samsung Galaxy S22 5G smartphone is US$799. When the Galaxy S21 was released it was in the same price range, but make no mistake, upon release of the Galaxy S22, the S21’s price will drop.

From what we can see, the Samsung Galaxy S22 5G is the better choice of smartphone. From the specs, we expect it to be fast performing, with good camera features that capture detailed pictures and videos, and minor improvements in the design. I also like the different colors available, especially the Phantom Black.

Compared to the present Galaxy S21, the smartphone is taller and has a bigger battery, which means a bigger screen and longer battery life. Yes, they have a lot of similar features but right now it’s too early to say which one is the better smartphone for you. But for now, my money right now is on the Samsung Galaxy S21 5G. Because it will be cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy S22 5G.

The first thing that came to mind when I saw this game was space travel, lasers firing everywhere, fistfights, amazing superpowers, and music from the 80s and 90s eras. What you get is exactly that, but so much more.

Looking for a different adventure mixed with action, fantasy, magic, and challenging monsters? Then let me introduce to you Tales of Arise, an action JRPG that takes you into a cartoonish-fantasy world filled with exotic locations, a decent story, great combat gameplay, and amazing graphics.

You start off with Alphen, a slave who acts as a protector at a mine with no memory of his past life, and bumps into Shionne, a mysterious woman with dangerous powers. They band together with a resistance group fighting lords to gain special artifacts. Along the way, they meet six other powerful characters with unique strengths and abilities who ultimately save the world from a corrupt race of evil supervillains.

If you’re familiar with JRPGs it’s no different. You’ll get to explore a vast world of indigenous environments, battle minions and powerful bosses to level up, gain points to get stronger, and learn powerful abilities.

The graphics look gorgeous with excellent gameplay, especially during combat. There’s a vast amount of side quests from the main story to get level up your characters. You’re looking at over 50 hours of gaming including post-gaming after the main story.

I remembered how all the other previous Far Cry gaming titles came with the same gaming mechanics, style, and gameplay. That has not changed. In fact, Ubisoft has kept it going but added new features to spice up the gameplay.

- Third-person view in the home bases
- The new ‘Supremo’ with customizable options

Overall, this is one of the best action games I’ve played this year. The added features and new gaming mechanics bring a unique presence to the Far Cry gaming series. It’s available at an affordable price tag of less than US$300 (4000 ZAR). It includes an average of up to 25 hours of all-day battery life and lasts up to 5 days if used moderately.

On moderate use, it can last you a total of 5 days. It also takes good quality day pictures. Let me warn you this phone’s made of plastic which affects phone durability. The overall performance is workable. The poor quality display and poor loudspeaker performance.

Overall, this is one phone to try when you really need a budget phone. I recommend it as one of the best phones with longest battery life.

When I came across the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S, I saw the price, then I thought to myself ‘Okay, another budget phone’. Turns out that this is quite a monster of a smartphone.

Checking out the specs, it includes a great performance chip, takes detailed videos and pictures, and you get up to 26 hours of all-day battery life lasting over 5 days 18 hours if used moderately. Speaking of which, it’s powered by a large 5020mAh battery and supports fast charging.

All this under a US$300 (5000 ZAR) price tag. If you doubt me, try it. You won’t be disappointed. Another great recommendation to be one of the best phones with longest battery life.

When I came across the new Moto G Power smartphone, I was skeptical at first to review it because of the mixed review scores and comments. But when I did research on it, I was happy with a number of things.

The premium look and modern design. The large 6-inch screen. The amazing quality and detail of the camera pictures. The 25 hours of all-day battery life, lasting up to 5 days if used moderately.

You get all this and more at under US$200 (3000 ZAR). Remember though that it’s a budget phone so a few compromises here or there will be present. The most noticeable is the low-lit display. Overall performance is standard. The biggest storage model is 64GB but yes you can expand it with a micro SD card.

In short, the Moto G Power smartphone is your standard budget smartphone but has enough battery life for a whole day’s use. I recommend it as one of the best budget phones for longest battery life.

Verdict

These are some pretty powerful phones in this price range. They are well-designed, attractive, functional, affordable and each has a big battery.

But at the same time, these mid-range phones here come with compromises, and yes they are expected at this price range. But at least you don’t have to worry about the battery power going flat any time soon.

Out of the three, my money’s on the Redmi Note 9S. It may have the longest battery life of the three, but also a great overall budget smartphone to get right now. It’s more expensive but once you try it you will be impressed.

Thirdly, not much to say about the design but it comes with great colors to choose from, a great quad camera, and fast-charging capabilities.

It’s not as good as top-range smartphones as it will lack the features, but with the price on offer, it’s worth a try.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S

If there’s one thing I can say about the Redmi Note 9S, it’s one of the most affordable smartphones you get right now. Another best budget smartphone of 2020.

Here are the reasons why you must get this smartphone. Firstly, it comes with a simple design with curved edges and nice metallic color options to choose from.

Secondly, it has a large flat screen that produces clear sharp images and a smooth responsive Android OS.

Next is the large 5000mAh battery that guarantees at most up to two long day’s worth of battery life. It comes with a fast charger to juice it up within an hour.

Lastly, the Redmi Note 9S comes with a quad-camera, that takes up to 48MP pictures, and records high quality in 4K.

Overall, this is just a simple smartphone that comes with a little more features than you bargain for, and it’s one of the most affordable smartphones.

Thirdly. Great durability especially water and dust resistance.

The smartphone may have a plastic aluminum frame and is a little more expensive, but it’s a great alternative if you lack the budget for the entry-level Samsung S20.

Huawei P30 Lite New Edition

The New Edition Huawei P30 Lite is next on the list of best budget smartphones of 2020, as it surpasses it older P30 Lite with better features.

First off. Good quality full HD display. Good triple camera performance. Nice design colors.

Secondly. Good performance but only available in one model that features 256GB storage and 6GB memory.

Thirdly, this smartphone retains rights to Google services. So if you looking for an affordable Huawei smartphone that still uses Google services then this one’s for you.

Even though it has a smaller battery and average performance processor, it falls between budget and mid-range. The smartphone comes at a good price and is worth checking out of you looking for a good budget alternative.

The OnePlus Nord is overall the best when it comes to tech features. I like the color, the clear and sharp display, and the overall performance of the phone. It is definitely one to recommend if you want a phone with a little more features but not as expensive as other top-range phones.

The Galaxy S20 FE is another I feel is the best smartphone of 2020. Yes, it’s a little more pricey. Yes, it’s made of plastic aluminum that is less premium than the top-range S20 smartphones, yet it comes with an excellent hardware spec and a great display. Another smartphone worth trying out if a top-range smartphone’s not your thing.

The most affordable but the best one to get on a tight budget is the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S/Pro. Don’t be fooled by the price but it comes with some pretty need features. It definitely is one smartphone I recommend to those who really are on a tight budget yet want to experience what a top-budget phone can do. I highly recommend it.

The Huawei New Edition P30 Lite is also worth recommending. I like that it takes great pictures, has features to help save battery life, and is also a great and affordable alternative.

For Apple iPhone fans, the iPhone 11 is a great smartphone. It goes to show that great things do come in small packages, especially at that price. Although the iPhone 12 series has made its way into the last months of 2020, this smartphone could be a great alternative.

Let’s find out more. As I said, performance is decent here. Here’s why. Firstly, the Intel Core i3 processor, together with the 4GB memory, manages to keep the Chromebook working at its peak.

Secondly, the full HD livens up the 15-inch touch screen. Thirdly, you are looking at up to 16 hours of battery life. Enough for a good day’s work. The Chromebook comes with no backlit keyboard, no fingerprint scanner, and a standard-quality webcam. Common features for a budget laptop, yet it’s expected at its affordable price.

Overall, the Acer Chromebook 715 has the makings of being one of the best budget business laptops, as it offers you great features at a budget price. If a cheap 15-inch Chromebook is what you look for, then here’s one for you. See the latest price here.

In my review of the Surface Go 2, here was my overall impression:

Surface Go 2 is great to use and has the potential to be a great 2-in-1 tablet. With a bigger display, reliable performance for everyday use and features, it’s a fun portable mobile device to use wherever you are.

Check out my full Surface Go 2 Review. My impressions remain unchanged. The Surface Go 2 from Microsoft is still one of the best budget business laptops to use for everyday tasks. It may have a smaller touch screen but supports higher resolutions than 1080p. It’s one of the best mobile devices to offer up to 6 hours of battery life.

The kickstand too is another great feature that lets you open it up at the rear, and place the Surface Go 2 on any flat surface. Performance is still decent for everyday tasks, but other budget laptops come with slightly better performance ratings. Storage from the entry-level model is too small for the apps and updates we use on a daily basis.

Overall, if you want a simple, portable business laptop that has better screen quality and other cool features, then look no further than the Surface Go 2. I recommend getting the Surface Go 2 with 8GB memory and 128GB storage SSD, but that means getting a more expensive model.

Another 15-inch Chromebook to look out for, is the Samsung Chromebook 4. Samsung brings you an entry-level Chromebook that comes at an affordable price, includes a 15-inch screen, good battery life and a premium design finish.

This 15-inch Chromebook comes with an entry-level Intel Celeron processor, with 4GB of memory, and 32GB of storage. The hardware specs are low but perform tasks well. It’s a great Chromebook for everyday use, comes with a comfortable keyboard layout, a responsive touchpad, and guarantees up to 10 hours of battery life.

The Chromebook does have its flaws. Firstly, the display has no touch function. Secondly, the bezels around the screen are pretty thick. And thirdly, the display is not that bright.

Suffice to say the Samsung Chromebook 4 offers you a great working laptop at an affordable price. The display is the major disappointing issue, which may cause others to look elsewhere. But it’s more of a normal laptop than a Chromebook. If you looking for a laptop that is affordable, functions as a laptop rather than a Chromebook, and works with everyday tasks, then the Samsung Chromebook 4 is for you.

The entry-model Asus VivoBook 15 comes with great design features, that include a thin-bezel display, good-looking keyboard layout, and touchpad. But suffers greatly as it lives up to the common cliche ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’.

The screen is dim. Battery life is less than average. The performance is adequate but not as good as average. But with an affordable price tag, you can rest assured that you get what you pay for.

Here are reasons why you should buy it. Starting with the display, it’s a large 15.6-inch full HD touch screen, that shows clear, sharp images and good color accuracy. Secondly, the laptop comes with a little over 5 hours of battery life that is better than older budget laptops.

Next is the long list of input ports, which includes a USB Type-C, USB 2, USB 3, HDMI, audio jack, and a microSD reader. No Ethernet port but supports WiFi. In terms of performance, the VivoBook 15 does its job well but it’s rated lower than other budget laptops. The display is not a good feature as it comes with lower brightness, and the battery life is considered shorter than other budget laptops.

Overall, the Asus VivoBook looks like a solid contender in the design department but suffers from performance, battery life, and display. Keep in mind that this is a budget laptop, so there will always be compromises, but if you’re looking for a better business laptop, then it’s best to look elsewhere.

Lasting Impressions

These best budget business laptops of 2020 may not be the most powerful laptops around. They may even lack the premium features included in top-range laptops, but with the limited hardware specs, features and performance, they are good laptops for simple everyday tasks.

My eye is on the Acer Chromebook 715. It has a stunning design, comes with good system performance, and high initial storage. It may have its flaws but is overlooked because of the good features it offers.

Another one is the Microsoft Surface Go 2. It comes with great features plus a higher screen resolution that offers a better quality picture. It’s sad that you must buy the extra accessories, and it’s a little more pricey than most, but the unique features make up for the price tag.

It may be expensive, lacks the means to connect to your HDTV, and comes with low-quality sound speakers, but overall, it offers great performance, long battery life, and an attractive design.

Even though it lacks common input ports and may need you to dig deeper into your pocket, overall, this is a great business laptop from Dell. It offers an amazing display, good design features and long hours of battery life.

The HP Spectre X360 13 is a 2-in-1 laptop that comes with a beautiful design, a slim bezel display and a nice looking keyboard. Inside it comes with a good hardware spec that offers great performance and over 13 hours of battery life. That’s the highest ever tested from a 2-in-1, making it one of the best laptops with long battery life.

Minor shortcomings such as bloatware which can be deleted and low-quality audio speakers can easily be overlooked. Note that the 4K model has less battery life compared to the Full HD model, yet it has better screen quality.

Overall, if you want a 2-in-1 laptop that offers long battery life, great performance and great design, then look no further than 2019’s HP X360 Spectre 13.

The Razer Blade Stealth 13 gaming laptop is one of a kind. It’s the less expensive in the Razer Blade series. It offers smooth gameplay thanks to the 120Hz display. And lastly, it offers up to 7 hours of battery life.

Unlike other Razer Blade gaming laptops, this one is the least expensive but also the least powerful. It maintains the traditional Razer chassis design with the signature RGB logo behind the display and includes the RGB keyboard.

And since it’s a gaming laptop, the battery drains a lot of power whilst gaming so it is best to keep it plugged in.

Overall, the Razer Blade Stealth 13 has more battery life compared to other gaming laptops for now and is worth the buy at its price.
