Not every flashy new feature hits the mark, and this built-in light ring quickly loses its initial charm. Google hyped up the new “HiLight” LED ring around the camera bar as a revolutionary way to check notifications and AI status alerts while your phone rests face down. In practice, however, the lights are surprisingly bright in dark rooms and lack granular customization settings to tone them down.

Furthermore, keeping the ring constantly illuminated for subtle alerts drains battery unnecessarily throughout the day, forcing me to turn it off entirely after just a few days of testing.
