The Simple Guide to Improve Laptop Battery Life

Who doesn’t love squeezing the most juice out of their laptop battery? The good news is, the Windows OS is already on your side! It boasts a range of built-in settings specifically designed to optimize your laptop’s battery performance. Even if you own one of the best laptops for battery life, there’s always room for improvement. The best part? Most of these tweaks don’t require any additional software – they’re completely free and easy to implement! Keep reading to discover hidden gems within Windows to improve laptop battery life.

Use Windows Tools

Improve Laptop Battery Life

Windows laptops might be the battery champ, but its secret weapons are hidden. Many built-in tools designed to extend your laptop’s life are switched off by default. Let’s switch them on to improve laptop’s battery life.

1 – Activate Battery SaverThis built-in power saver is your first line of defense. It offers a range of options like dimming your screen or limiting notifications when unplugged, all to conserve battery life.

2 – Power Down, Power Up EfficientlyModern laptops are powerhouses, so consider switching to the “Best power efficiency overall” mode. Reserve the high-performance modes for those moments when you truly need the extra muscle.

3 – Hibernation, Your Battery’s Best Friend: For extended breaks, take advantage of Hibernation mode. This puts your laptop in a deep sleep, preserving battery life significantly compared to regular sleep mode.

4 – Airplane Mode: For those times when sacrificing internet connectivity isn’t a dealbreaker, enabling Airplane mode completely cuts off wireless connections, maximizing battery savings. However, this might not be ideal for everyone in our internet-dependent world.

By implementing these simple tweaks, you can unlock the full battery-saving potential of Windows 11 and keep your laptop humming for longer!

Monitor Battery Health

Unlike some laptops, Windows 11 doesn’t offer a readily available battery health indicator. While some manufacturers have their own monitoring apps, Windows itself holds a valuable secret weapon: a comprehensive battery report.

Unlocking the Battery Report:

1 – Open Command Prompt (search for it in the Start Menu).

2 – Type powercfg /batteryreport and press Enter.

This will generate an HTML file containing a wealth of information about your battery, including estimated remaining life and how you’re using battery power. While accessing it might not be the most intuitive process, this report is a goldmine for understanding your battery’s health and maximizing its lifespan.

Disable Power Hungry Apps

Ever feel like your laptop takes ages to boot up, or its battery drains faster than usual? Annoying startup apps might be the culprit! Many programs sneak themselves onto your startup list during installation, automatically launching when you turn on your laptop. While this might seem convenient on a desktop PC, it’s a battery drain monster on laptops. Here’s the fix to improve laptop battery life:

1 – Head to the Startup Apps menu (search for it in the Start Menu).

2 – Take a deep breath and disable everything you see on the list.

3 – Reboot your laptop.

Don’t worry, this isn’t permanent! Simply re-enable any programs you genuinely need on startup. The rest can stay disabled, saving you precious boot time and improve laptop’s battery life. By following this strategy, you can reclaim control over your startup process and keep your laptop running smoothly and efficiently.

Use Laptop Energy Recommendations

Windows has a hidden gem waiting to boost your battery life: the Energy recommendations feature! This handy tool, located in Settings > System > Power & battery, analyzes your system and suggests a range of tweaks to maximize your laptop’s unplugged life.

From simple adjustments like switching to a power-saving mode to more unexpected tips like disabling USB power when your screen is off, Energy recommendations offer a comprehensive approach to battery optimization.

Even if you’ve already made some battery-saving changes, it’s worth checking this list. You might discover hidden settings you haven’t considered that can squeeze even more juice out of your laptop’s battery.

Monitor Battery Charge Cycles

All laptop batteries have a limited lifespan. Just like a car engine, they can only go through so many recharge cycles before their capacity starts to decline. For lithium-ion batteries, like the one in your Windows laptop, that’s typically around 500 cycles. After reaching this point, the battery might only hold 80% of its original charge.

Now, this 500 cycles is a conservative estimate – smartphone batteries are often rated for around 800 cycles. The key thing to remember is that a cycle doesn’t necessarily mean draining the entire battery from 100% to 0%. Plugging in throughout the day still counts towards a cycle, but it doesn’t deplete it as quickly as a full discharge.

The good news is, small reductions in battery life happen gradually. However, there are ways to maximize your battery’s health and lifespan. Keep it charged between 20% and 80%. Lithium-ion batteries are happiest in this sweet spot. If your laptop has software that lets you limit the maximum charge to 80%, enable it! This helps maintain battery health over time.

By following these simple tips, you can improve laptop battery life extending it and keeping it running stronger for longer.

Avoid High Temperature Areas

Heat is the kryptonite of laptop batteries! While lithium-ion batteries are content at room temperature, they become grumpy when exposed to direct sunlight, scorching environments, or excessive humidity.

Keeping Your Battery Cool, here’s how:

1 – Fend Off the Extremes: Shield your laptop from the sun’s wrath and avoid using it in excessively hot or humid places.

2 – Clear Those Airways: Dust and debris can clog air vents, hindering airflow and causing overheating. Keep those vents clean for optimal ventilation.

3 – Cool It Down: If you can’t control the ambient temperature, consider using a cooling pad with a fan. This can lower the battery’s operating temperature by a few degrees, keeping it happy and healthy.

4 – Ditch the Lap Myth: Despite the name, laptops aren’t designed for laps! The soft materials trap heat, blocking airflow. Use a sturdy surface like a table or tray for better cooling.

By following these simple tips, you can keep your laptop battery functioning optimally and extend its lifespan. Remember, a cool battery is a happy battery!

In Closing

Even the endurance champions of laptops, like those powered by Snapdragon X Elite processors, can benefit from a few tweaks to squeeze out even more juice. Implementing these tips will help you improve laptop battery life, allowing you to work unplugged for longer.

These suggestions are geared towards maximizing battery health and performance on a functional battery. However, if your laptop is experiencing significant battery drain or doesn’t hold a charge, it might require a replacement or further troubleshooting.

Galaxy Z Fold 6: Overview

The Z Fold 6 unfolds to boast a rumored 7.6-inch main display, perfect for immersive gaming, multitasking, and consuming media. When folded, a sizable 6.3-inch cover display keeps you connected without needing to unfurl the phone. Under the hood, the Z Fold 6 is expected to be equipped with the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, promising smooth performance, efficient multitasking, and exceptional graphics rendering. The memory will be stuck at 12 GB of RAM with internal storage ranging from 256 GB to 1 TB.

Reasons to Buy the Galaxy Z Fold 6

1 – Cutting-Edge Foldable Design

Experience the future of smartphones with a device that transforms from a compact phone to a near-tablet-sized display. With a stronger durable hinge, slimmer, tougher aluminum chassis, and lighter than its predecessor, it’ll be easier to hold and a tough nut to crack. With the rumored IP48 water resistance rating, the Z Fold 6 design is built to withstand all elements, especially the water, scratch and dust.

2 – Wider display

While the Galaxy Z Fold 6 might look almost identical to its predecessor at first sight, Samsung has made a subtle but key size adjustment. The phone is slightly shorter and a tad wider. This seemingly minor change translates to a bigger cover display by 0.1 inches. This might seem insignificant, but it makes a big difference in usability – the folded phone feels much more comfortable to hold and navigate with one hand.

3 – Better Performance

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 gets the newest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, that promises to handle even the most demanding tasks with ease. With its power and energy-saving efficiency, it will contribute to the overall phone’s long battery life.

4 – Improved Camera System

The Z Fold 6 will capture stunning photos and videos with a minor upgrade to the camera system. The only change will be the added 12 MP ultrawide camera sensor which will take better low-light images and video. With the added AI features, Samsung believes it will enhances the camera system, letting you unleash your creativity on the go.

5 – Software & Galaxy AI Features

The Z Fold 6 isn’t just about the hardware; it boasts some clever AI tricks thanks to Samsung’s Galaxy AI suite. Out of the box, you’ll get the latest Android 14 with One UI 6.1.1, offering features like customizable lock screens and AI-powered message replies. But the real star is the Galaxy AI integration, optimized for the foldable form factor. Imagine searching the web directly on the Z Fold 6’s large display with Circle to Search. Editing photos becomes more precise with Smart Select, an AI tool for object selection and overlay. Feeling artistic? The new Sketch to Image tool lets you use the S Pen to turn your doodles into edits – want sunglasses on that dog in your photo? No problem!

Need to take notes? A new transcription feature in the Note app summarizes your scribbles for easy reference. Struggling with writer’s block? The Samsung Keyboard’s Composer feature generates text based on keywords, perfect for emails, social media, or comments. Perhaps the most impressive AI feature is the enhanced Interpreter app. It utilizes both screens on the Z Fold 6 for conversation mode, displaying translations on both the main and cover displays. This fosters smoother communication between people speaking different languages. Bonus? Live translation even works within other apps!

6 – Little Bigger Battery

Don’t hold your breath for a massive battery upgrade. The Z Fold 6 gets a modest 400mAh bump, bringing it to 4,400mAh compared to its predecessor. This might seem like a small change, but it’s important to consider the Fold 6’s more powerful processor and AI features that will likely consume more energy. Essentially, the extra 400mAh could be the difference between a phone lasting a full day or dying on your commute home.

The downside is the wired charging speed, which remains at a rather slow 35 watts. But on the bright side, the phone can apparently reach 50% charge in about 30 minutes, which is decent and might help preserve the battery’s lifespan in the long run.

Reasons Not to Buy

1 – Expensive Price Tag

Foldable phones still command a premium price, and the Z Fold 6 is likely to be no exception. Consider your budget and whether the foldable features justify the cost compared to a traditional high-end phone.

2 – Durability Issues

While Samsung has improved the Z Fold’s durability, foldable phones are still a relatively new technology. There might be some lingering concerns about potential hinge issues or screen damage.

Should You Pre-order The Galaxy Z Fold 6?

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is a compelling proposition for those seeking a cutting-edge phone with a unique form factor. The improved design, powerful specs and performance, the minor improved camera and battery, and the Galaxy AI features, make it a productivity and entertainment powerhouse. However, the high price might make one reconsider. Ultimately, the decision depends on your priorities and budget. If I was you, I would wait for reviews to make a better decision on getting the Z Fold 6. If you have the older Z Fold 5, don’t rush into upgrading as yet.

If you’re a tech enthusiast who craves the latest and greatest, and prioritize a large screen for work or play, the Z Fold 6 might be the perfect choice. New Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6: Worth The Buy

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip series redefined the pocket-sized phone with its innovative foldable design. Now, the highly anticipated Galaxy Z Flip 6 unfolds with even more to offer. This iteration promises improvements on its predecessor while retaining the iconic style that has made the Flip series a favorite.

The question is – Is it worth the upgrade? Should you invest in the next best smartphones knowing that your current smartphone is doing you well? These and many other questions need answers, and this article plans to do just that.  So let’s not waste any time. Let’s get to it and see if the new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 is worth the upgrade.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6

Overview

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 boasts a foldable design that allows it to compress into a compact size for easy portability. Unfolded, it reveals a stunning display for an immersive viewing experience. It’s rumored to be packed with powerful specs, including a next-generation Snapdragon processor and an upgraded camera system. Let’s take a closer look at the reasons why you might want to consider the Galaxy Z Flip 6, along with some factors that might make you hesitate.

Reasons To Buy

1 – Stylish Design & Compact

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 folds in half for unmatched portability. It easily slips into your pocket or bag, making it perfect for those on the go. When unfolded, it boasts a stunning display for an immersive viewing experience. It will also be available in stylish selection of colors, such as  Silver Shadow, Yellow, Blue and Mint (more colors available if you order online from the Samsung website).

2 – Improved Camera

The Z Flip 6 takes mobile photography to the next level with a 50 MP main camera sensor, and a 12 MP ultrawide sensor with 2x optical zoom capabilities. Capture crisp clear photos and videos, and unleash your creativity with the unique folded form factor.

3 – Enhanced Performance

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 is expected to be powered by the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, meaning you can expect smooth fast performance, efficient multitasking, and exceptional graphics rendering for flawless gaming and streaming. This will contribute to the phone’s capabilities on managing power, which means better battery life.

4 – Durability Boost

Past concerns about the Z Flip’s durability seem to be addressed with a rumored IP48 water resistance rating. This means the phone can withstand dust particles and resist water submersion for up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes.

While the rumored IP48 rating is a plus, foldable phones are still a relatively new technology, and some users might be wary of potential hinge issues or screen damage.

5 – Bigger Battery

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 is rumored to come with a larger 4,000mAh battery, a significant upgrade from its predecessor. This, combined with potential fast-charging capabilities, should keep you powered throughout the day. Thanks to it’s new chipset, you can expect a better battery life than its predecessor.

6 – AI Features

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 comes with some clever AI as well. While features like Circle-to-Search and note summarization are available on other recent Samsung phones, the Z Flip 6 gets some exclusive perks.

One such feature is the optimized Chat Assist on the cover screen. This allows you to quickly reply to texts using Suggested Replies without even unfolding the phone. Feeling multilingual? Interpreter Mode utilizes both screens for real-time conversations with translation displayed on each one.

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 also gets creative with its AI. The Gallery app’s Photo Assist lets you transform photos into sketches or cartoons, while Photo Ambient adjusts your wallpaper based on weather and time. While some features might be more practical than others, it’s clear Samsung is going all-in on AI, and the Z Flip 6 reaps the benefits.

7 – Software Support

Remember the extended software support Samsung introduced with the Galaxy S24? Good news! That same commitment applies to the Z Flip 6. This translates to several years of software and security updates. In theory, you could be rocking a practically new-feeling Galaxy Z Flip 6 well into the next decade!

Reasons Not To Buy

1 – More Expensive

Foldable phones are still a premium technology, and the Galaxy Z Flip 6 is likely to carry a hefty price tag. Consider your budget and whether the foldable features justify the cost compared to a traditional high-end phone.

2 – Limited App Optimization

Some apps might not be fully optimized for the foldable format, potentially leading to a less than ideal user experience.

3 – Cover Screen Size

The Z Flip 6 sticks with the same 3.4-inch cover screen, limiting its ability to run full apps like its competitor, the Motorola Razr Plus, that comes with a 3.9-inch cover screen. While the Z Flip 6 does utilize Galaxy AI features on the cover screen, for a more comprehensive experience, the Motorola Razr Plus might be a better choice.

4 – Slow Charging

The charging speed is a concern with the Galaxy Z Flip 6. As much as it’s an expensive smartphone, the premium features should reflect as such. Sadly, the battery will only support up to 25W charging speeds which is slower compared to other foldable smartphones.

Is The New Flip Worth it

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 promises a compelling package – a stylish foldable design, powerful performance, and an upgraded camera system. However, the price tag and lingering durability concerns might give some potential buyers pause.

Ultimately, the decision depends on your priorities. If you crave a cutting-edge phone with a unique form factor and prioritize portability, the Z Flip 6 might be the perfect match. But if budget is a major concern, or you prefer a more traditional phone design, other high-end options might be a better fit.

  • Potentially lower costs down the line: Easier disassembly might mean you can upgrade components yourself instead of buying a whole new laptop, saving money in the long run.
  • Durable design: A focus on repairability suggests a sturdier build quality overall.

Overall, Acer Vero laptops are a compelling option for eco-conscious consumers who want a powerful and potentially long-lasting laptop without sacrificing performance.

It’s important to note that while these are unique selling points, Vero laptops will still compete in the overall market based on specs, features, and price point when compared to other laptops from Acer or other manufacturers.

Acer Vero Laptops

Let’s check out what Acer has on offer with these eco-friendly laptops.

Chromebook Vero 514

Display: 14-inch Full HD IPS (1920 x 1080) 60 Hz touch screen | Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-1235U / Intel® Core™ i7-1255U  | Graphics: Intel® Iris® Xe | Memory: 8GB RAM | Storage: 256GB SSD |  Ports: 1x USB Type-C, 1x Audio jack, 1x USB Type-A | Other: Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi 6E

PROS

  • Made of a sturdy recycled plastic
  • Impressive performance
  • Comes with HDMI, USB-A & USB-C ports

CONS

  • Core i7 processor too expensive
  • No microSD card slot
  • Average design & typing quality

The Acer Chromebook Vero 514 muscles its way into the Chromebook arena as one of the fastest. It boasts a robust build and a welcome HDMI port (perfect since the screen itself isn’t the brightest). However, the good vibes get a reality check with the price tag. Our test unit, sporting a Core i7 processor and 16GB of RAM, rings in at a hefty $949.99.

That’s simply too much for a Chromebook, and frankly, those specs feel like overkill for ChromeOS, which thrives on lighter hardware.

Here’s the good news: the Core i5 version offers the same eco-friendly appeal with a much more reasonable price tag of $599.99. So, if you crave Chromebook speed with a conscience, the Vero 514 is a solid option.

Just skip the Core i7 configuration and stick with the Core i5 to save some green (pun intended) and avoid unnecessary processing power for this lightweight operating system.

Aspire Vero

Display: 16-inch Full HD IPS (1920 x 1200) 60 Hz | Processor: Intel® Core™ Ultra 5 125U | Graphics: Intel® Graphics | Memory: 16 GB RAM | Storage: 512 GB SSD storage |  Ports: 1x HDMI 2.1, 1x Audio jack, 2x USB Type-C, 2x USB Type-A | Other: Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi 6E

PROS

  • Made of PCR materials
  • Affordable
  • Decent battery life
  • Impressive 1440p webcam

CONS

  • Performance not that great
  • Touchpad is not impressive
  • No microSD card slot and no Ethernet port
  • No touch screen

The Acer Aspire Vero is an eco-friendly laptop with decent capabilities. However, its “adequate” performance makes the $849 price tag a bit tough to swallow. While the 2023 model upgrades to Intel’s 13th Gen processors, the boost isn’t significant enough to justify ditching last year’s version.

While the Aspire Vero is a capable machine, it just meets the basic needs of a desktop replacement laptop. The eco-friendly materials are a plus, but the minimal reduction in carbon footprint doesn’t quite dethrone the Dell XPS 15 or Apple MacBook Air 15-inch as our top picks.

In short, the Aspire Vero is more sustainable than ever, but the performance improvements aren’t enough to make it a compelling upgrade.

Should You Buy An Acer Vero Laptop

Vero laptops from Acer prove that being eco-friendly doesn’t mean sacrificing performance. These laptops offer impressive specs and features, all while incorporating recycled materials, promoting repairability, and minimizing waste.

Whether you’re a student, professional, or simply someone who wants a powerful device with a conscience, a Vero laptop is a compelling choice. So ditch the guilt and embrace the future of sustainable computing with Acer Vero.

Remember the days of clunky flip phones that barely fit in your pocket? Fast forward to today, and the concept of a foldable phone has transformed from a futuristic sci-fi fantasy to a tangible reality. These innovative devices boast a large, tablet-like display that folds in half for a surprisingly compact design. But are foldable phones just a gimmick, or are they the future of mobile technology? Let’s delve into the world of these best folding phones and see if they deserve a spot in your pocket.

Overview

The concept of a foldable phone has been around for decades, but technological limitations kept it from becoming a mainstream reality. Early prototypes were bulky, fragile, and prone to screen breakage. However, advancements in display technology and flexible hinges have finally paved the way for commercially viable foldable phones.

In 2019, the Samsung Galaxy Fold became the first foldable phone to hit the market, though initial issues led to a rocky launch. Since then, several manufacturers like Huawei, Motorola, and Microsoft have entered the foldable phone arena, offering a wider range of designs and features.

The impact of foldable phones on the tech industry is undeniable. They represent a significant leap forward in mobile design, offering a more versatile and immersive user experience. Imagine unfolding your phone to enjoy a movie on a larger screen, or effortlessly multitasking between apps on a tablet-sized display.

Overall, foldable phones are pushing the boundaries of innovation, inspiring advancements in flexible displays, hinge mechanisms, and user interfaces specifically designed for the foldable form factor.

Unfolding the Pros and Cons: Best Folding Phones

While the potential of foldable phones is exciting, they still have some hurdles to overcome. Here’s a breakdown of the pros and cons to help you decide if this technology is ready for your pocket:

Reasons to Buy:

  • Enhanced Productivity: The larger unfolded screen provides a more desktop-like experience, perfect for working on documents, editing photos, or browsing the web.
  • Immersive Entertainment: Watching videos, playing games, or reading e-books becomes more enjoyable on a larger, tablet-sized display.
  • Increased Portability: Folded up, these phones are surprisingly compact, fitting comfortably in your pocket without the bulk of a traditional tablet.
  • Cutting-Edge Technology: Owning a foldable phone puts you at the forefront of mobile innovation, experiencing the future of smartphone design.

Reasons to Avoid:

  • High Price: Foldable phones are currently more expensive than traditional flagship smartphones.
  • Durability Concerns: The folding mechanism and flexible display are potential weak points, raising concerns about long-term durability.
  • Limited App Optimization: Not all apps are optimized for the foldable phones, which can lead to awkward scaling or usability issues.
  • Bulkier Than Traditional Phones: While more compact than a tablet when folded, they are still thicker than most traditional smartphones.

Best Folding Phones of 2024 So Far

From budget to top-range foldables, we have selected the best folding phones that we believe will meet all your daily needs. We know what they, how they came to be, and the reasons why we should or should not buy them. Now let’s see what the foldable smartphone market has in store for you.

Google Pixel Fold

Best Affordable Camera Flip Phone

SPECS

MAIN DISPLAY: 7.6 inches (2208 x 1840) | SECONDARY DISPLAY: 5.8 inches (2092 x 1080) | PROCESSORTensor G2 | RAM: 12GB | STORAGE: 256GB, 512GB

While Samsung’s latest foldables might be grabbing most of the headlines, Google deserves credit for a very impressive first attempt with the Pixel Fold. It’s clear they put a lot right straight out of the gate.

The Pixel Fold shines with several unique features. First, the wide 5.8-inch front display is comfortable to use and type on, unlike some cramped options on competitor devices. Second, when unfolded, it boasts the thinnest profile of any foldable phone, making it feel surprisingly sleek. And finally, the hinge is exceptionally smooth and natural-feeling when opening and closing.

Here’s more to love: a fantastic camera system with a powerful main sensor and impressive zoom capabilities, along with excellent low-light photography. The software is also well-designed, offering intuitive split-screen multitasking, convenient tabletop and tent modes, and a good selection of apps optimized for the large 7.6-inch internal display.

While the Tensor G2 processor could be a bit faster and the bezels could be slimmer, these are minor drawbacks in an otherwise excellent foldable phone. It’s a great option for those willing to invest in a premium device from Google.

Motorola Razr+

Best Design Foldable

SPECS

MAIN DISPLAY: 6.9 inches (2640 x 1080)SECONDARY DISPLAY: 3.6 inches (1066 x 1056) | PROCESSOR: Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 | RAM: 8GB | STORAGE: 256GB

Motorola’s past foldable attempts might have been a bit rough around the edges, but their latest offering, the Razr+, is finally a worthy competitor to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 5. In fact, we think it even surpasses the Flip 5 for those who prefer the classic clamshell design.

The secret weapon of the Razr+? The massive 3.6-inch cover display. With its sharp resolution, this outer screen is large enough to run many apps without ever needing to unfold the phone. When you do unfold it, a beautiful 6.9-inch display awaits, seamlessly picking up where you left off with your apps. Plus, the phone remains compact and easy to carry when closed, and the sturdy hinge keeps the Razr+ perfectly flat when open.

Sure, some might scoff at the slightly older processor (the same one used in the 2022 Galaxy Z Flip 4). But battery life won’t be a concern – the Razr+ is one of the longest-lasting foldable phones we’ve tested. So, if you’re a clamshell phone enthusiast, the Motorola Razr+ is the clear winner in this foldable phone face-off.

Nubia Flip 5G

The Budget Flip Phone

SPECS

MAIN DISPLAY: 6.9 inches (2790 x 1188) | SECONDARY DISPLAY: 1.4 inches (466 x 466) | PROCESSOR: Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 | RAM: 8GB, 12GB | STORAGE: 256GB, 512GB

The Nubia Flip 5G might not compete head-to-head with the high-end foldables on this list. Camera quality falls short, and software updates might be scarce. However, with a price tag of just $499, it opens the door to foldable phone technology for a wider audience. That’s a win for affordability in the foldable market.

Despite the limitations, the Nubia Flip 5G boasts a stylish design with a smudge-resistant matte finish that makes it look more expensive than its price tag suggests. The unfolded 6.9-inch display offers a generous viewing experience. Battery life might be average, but the phone redeems itself with speedy 33W fast charging.

So, if you’re on a tight budget and the allure of a foldable phone is irresistible, the Nubia Flip 5G is a viable option. Just be aware of the compromises you’re making in camera quality and software support.

OnePlus Open

Best Folding Phone To Date

SPECS

MAIN DISPLAY: 7.8 inches (2440 x 2268) | SECONDARY DISPLAY: 6.3 inches (2484 x 1116) | PROCESSOR: Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 | RAM: 16GB | STORAGE: 512GB

Move over, Samsung and Google! The OnePlus Open is here to claim the best folding phone crown. It boasts the biggest main screen on the market at a large 7.8 inches, all while staying surprisingly thin and light thanks to its clever hinge design. And the best part? It achieves all this at a price point of US$100 lower than its competitors.

OnePlus proves you don’t have to break the bank for a premium foldable experience. They haven’t skimped on quality either – the Open takes fantastic photos (except in low-light), and the “Open Canvas” multitasking features are a game-changer. These features let you run multiple apps simultaneously on resizable windows, finally treating the foldable phone like the true multi-tasking tablet it can be.

The OnePlus Open isn’t just a great foldable phone; it’s a major leap forward for the entire industry. It delivers exceptional performance, a massive screen, and innovative software features, all at a competitive price. If you’re looking to fold into the future of mobile tech, the OnePlus Open is the most compelling option yet.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5

Best Camera Flip Phone

SPECS

MAIN DISPLAY: 7.6 inches (2208 x 1840) | SECONDARY DISPLAY: 5.8 inches (2092 x 1080) | PROCESSORTensor G2 | RAM: 12GB | STORAGE: 256GB, 512GB

Samsung may have been dethroned when it comes to the king of clamshell foldables, but the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is by no means a bad phone. It benefits from several improvements over its predecessor.

Similar to the Z Fold 5, the Z Flip 5 gets a boost thanks to the One UI 6.1 update, bringing new AI features to the table. The most noticeable change is the upgraded front display – the tiny screen from earlier models is replaced with a much more usable Flex Window. While it won’t replace full phone use, it’s great for displaying app widgets and notifications.

The cameras remain excellent, and the overall design, battery life, and processing power have all seen improvements. While it might not be a revolutionary leap forward, the Z Flip 5 is still a solid option with some notable upgrades. If you’re looking for a stylish and functional foldable phone, the Z Flip 5 is worth considering, but keep in mind there might be stronger contenders out there.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5

Most Improved Folding Phone

SPECS

MAIN DISPLAY: 7.6 inches (2176 x 1812) | SECONDARY DISPLAY: 6.2 inches (2316 x 904) | PROCESSOR: Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 | RAM: 12GB | STORAGE: 256GB, 512GB, 1TB

While the Galaxy Z Fold 5 might not be a revolutionary leap from its predecessor, the Z Fold 4, Samsung’s tweaks add up. These improvements are enough to keep it near the top of the foldable phone heap, even against challengers like the Pixel Fold.

The key changes are a new Flex hinge that makes the phone lighter and folds flatter, along with upgrades to the cameras, main display, performance, and multitasking abilities. This combination positions the Z Fold 5 as a well-rounded, high-quality foldable phone across all aspects. The optional S Pen support adds another layer of appeal, letting you unleash your productivity on this powerful portable device.

Here’s a bonus point: a recent software update (One UI 6.1) brings the latest Galaxy AI features (introduced with the Galaxy S24) to the Z Fold 5, further enhancing its capabilities.

Should You Get One of The Best Folding Phones?

The answer depends on you… also your needs and priorities, of course. If you’re a tech enthusiast who craves the latest and greatest, and prioritize a large, immersive display, then a foldable phone might be worth the investment. However, if you’re on a tight budget or value durability above all else, a traditional smartphone might be a better choice for now.

The foldable phone market is still young and rapidly evolving. Manufacturers are constantly addressing the downsides, making these devices more durable, affordable, and user-friendly. Before you take the plunge, consider your budget, needs, and risk tolerance. However, one thing is certain: foldable phones are here to stay, and they’re poised to revolutionize the way we interact with our mobile devices.

Best Android Smartphones With Long Battery Life in 2024

Let’s face it, our smartphones are like trusty companions these days. They’re our cameras, our entertainment hubs, our social lifelines, and sometimes, even our emergency toilet paper dispensers (don’t judge!). But there’s one thing that can turn this love affair sour faster than accidentally liking your ex’s holiday photos – a dying battery. Fear not, fellow adventurers (or should we say, adventurers with low battery anxiety)! This article is your one-stop guide to the best smartphones with long battery life. We’re talking devices that can power you through a Lord of the Rings marathon on a plane ride, a week-long music festival without needing a power bank the size of a brick, or even an accidental zombie apocalypse (hey, you never know!). So, ditch the charger (well, maybe not entirely) and get ready to explore the world of smartphones that won’t leave you hanging – literally.

Benefits of Smartphones With Long Battery Life

So why is this important? Why must we consider having a smartphone with a long battery life? Let’s look at the reasons why you must have a smartphone with a long life battery.

  • Reduced anxiety: You won’t have to constantly worry about your phone dying in the middle of the day, especially if you’re out and about without access to a charger.
  • More freedom and flexibility: A long-lasting battery allows you to use your phone more freely, without having to restrict your activities or constantly search for an outlet.
  • Uninterrupted entertainment: Stream movies, play games, or browse social media for extended periods without worrying about your phone cutting out prematurely.
  • Increased productivity: You can work on your phone for longer stretches without needing to take breaks for charging, allowing you to get more done throughout the day.
  • Better travel companion: Long battery life is a lifesaver on long journeys, letting you use your phone for entertainment, navigation, or communication without fear of running out of power.
  • Potential for faster charging: Phones with larger batteries often support faster charging technologies, allowing you to quickly top up your battery when needed.
  • Can be a backup power source: In a pinch, a phone with a long-lasting battery can even be used to share some power with other devices.

From the list above, it’s clear that it’s really important to have a smartphone that can last longer than just a day. If your phone right now is not giving you these benefits, then I think it’s time you consider thinking about switching. From budget to midrange, there’s always a smartphone ready and waiting for you to get.

Smartphones With Long Battery Life

We have taken the liberty of listing some of the best recommended smartphones with long battery life. From Nothing to Samsung, even Asus, these smartphones are guaranteed to last.

Nothing Phone 2a

Big Battery, Big Value (But Limited Availability)

DISPLAY: 6.7-inches, AMOLED, 1080 x 2412, 120Hz, HDR10+ | PROCESSOR: Mediatek Dimensity 7200 Pro | MEMORY: 8GB or 12GB RAM | STORAGE: 128GB or 256GB | OS: Android 14, Nothing OS 5.5 | BATTERY: 5000 mAh | CAMERA: 50 MP (wide), 50 MP (ultrawide), up to 4K videos at 30fps, 32 MP (wide) selfie camera

Despite its budget-friendly price tag (under $350!), the Nothing Phone 2a punches above its weight in the battery life department. The phone’s 5,000 mAh battery and MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro chip work together to deliver an impressive 15 hours on our battery test, even with the display refresh rate set to high. This means you can enjoy smooth visuals without sacrificing battery life.

Adding to the phone’s appeal is its surprisingly fast charging capability. Unlike many affordable options, the Nothing Phone 2a boasts 45W wired charging, allowing you to quickly top up your battery when needed. However, there’s a catch – getting your hands on this phone might be tricky. Currently, U.S. availability for the Nothing Phone 2a is limited. So, if you’re interested in this budget champion with a powerful battery, be prepared to do some hunting.

Samsung Galaxy S24+

Nearly All-Day Battery Life for the Galaxy S24 Plus

DISPLAY: 6.7-inches, Dynamic AMOLED 2x, 1440 x 3120, 120Hz, HDR10+ | PROCESSOR: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 (USA/Canada/China) or Exynos 2400 (Global) | MEMORY: 12GB RAM | STORAGE: 256GB or 512GB | OS: Android 14, One UI 6.1 | BATTERY: 4900 mAh  | CAMERA: 50 MP (wide), 10 MP (telephoto), 12 MP (ultrawide), up to 4K videos at 30 fps, 12 MP (wide) selfie camera

The Galaxy S24 Plus goes toe-to-toe with its bigger brother, the S24 Ultra, in terms of battery life. It lasted just 13 minutes less on our test, which is very impressive for a phone with a slightly smaller battery (4,900 mAh). This long-lasting performance is thanks to the efficient Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor (although keep in mind some regions get the Exynos 2400 chip).

Don’t expect any charging speed upgrades here. The S24 Plus sticks with 45W wired charging, just like the previous model. But with a compatible charger, you can still get a quick boost – we reached 72% in 30 minutes, matching the S24 Ultra’s charging speed. See the Samsung Galaxy S24 review.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra

The New King of Battery Life (But Bring Your Own Charger)

DISPLAY: 6.8-inches, Dynamic AMOLED 2x, 1440 x 3120, 120Hz, HDR10+ | PROCESSOR: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 | MEMORY: 12GB RAM | STORAGE: 256GB or 512GB or 1TB | OS: Android 14, One UI 6.1  | BATTERY: 5000mAh | CAMERA: 200 MP (wide), 10 MP (telephoto) with 3x optical zoom, 50 MP (periscope telephoto) with 5x optical zoom, 12 MP (ultrawide), up to 8K videos at 30fps, 12 MP (wide) selfie camera

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra dethrones all previous champions, claiming the title of longest-lasting flagship phone we’ve ever tested. It nearly reaches the 17-hour mark, surpassing last year’s Motorola flagship by an hour and leaving Apple’s latest models in the dust by a full 2.5 hours. Impressively, Samsung achieved this feat without increasing the battery size.

The secret sauce lies in the highly efficient Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, which effectively manages power consumption even with the adaptive refresh rate enabled. While charging speeds remain capped at 45W, we were able to achieve a 71% charge in just 30 minutes using a compatible 45W USB-C charger. However, be prepared to purchase this charger separately, as Samsung doesn’t include it in the box. See the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra review.

OnePlus 12

Flagship Power with Long-Lasting Battery Life

DISPLAY: 6.82-inches, AMOLED, 1440 x 3168, 120Hz, HDR10+ | PROCESSOR: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3  | MEMORY: 12GB or 16GB or 24GB RAM | STORAGE: 256GB or 512GB or 1TB | OS: Android 14, OxygenOS 14 | BATTERY: 5400mAh | CAMERA: 50 MP (wide), 48 MP (ultrawide), 64 MP (periscope telephoto) with 3x optical zoom, up to 8K videos at 24fps, 32 MP (wide) selfie camera

While the OnePlus 12R takes the crown for battery life in the series, the flagship OnePlus 12 shouldn’t be overlooked. It clocks in at a very respectable 17.5 hours on our tests, thanks to a sizable 5,400 mAh battery and the efficient Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip. This impressive endurance comes even with the phone’s adaptive display turned on, allowing you to enjoy smooth refresh rates without sacrificing battery life.

One advantage the OnePlus 12 holds over its more affordable sibling is the return of wireless charging – a welcome feature for many users. Plus, wired charging speeds reach 80W in the U.S., while wireless charging offers speeds of up to 50W. See the OnePlus 12 review

Asus Zenfone 11 Ultra

A Stamina Champ with a Stunning Display (But Needs Some Camera Work)

DISPLAY: 6.78-inches, AMOLED, 1080 x 2400, 144Hz, HDR10 | PROCESSOR: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 | MEMORY: 12GB or 16GB RAM | STORAGE: 256GB or 512GB | OS: Android 14 | BATTERY: 5500mAh | CAMERA: 50 MP (wide), 32 MP (telephoto) with 3x optical zoom, 13 MP (ultrawide), up to 8K videos at 24fps, 32 MP (wide) selfie camera

The bronze medal goes to the Asus Zenfone 11 Ultra. Continuing their trend of marathon battery life, Asus hits another home run with the Zenfone 11 Ultra. This phone joins the ranks of its gaming phone siblings by lasting nearly 18 hours on our battery test, even with a large 6.78-inch display. But the Zenfone 11 Ultra boasts more than just endurance. Asus equips it with a particularly vivid and colorful display, perfect for enjoying all kinds of content.

We’re also impressed with the 6-axis gimbal stabilizing the 50MP main camera, ensuring smooth and steady footage. However, the phone’s photo processing could use some refinement for truly exceptional pictures. Just like other recent Asus phones, the Zenfone 11 Ultra supports 65W wired charging for quick power-ups. Be aware though, you’ll need to supply your own charger to unlock this feature.

OnePlus 12R

Battery Champ at a Mid-Range Price

DISPLAY: 6.78-inches, AMOLED, 1264 x 2780, 120Hz, HDR10+ | PROCESSOR: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 | MEMORY: 8GB or 12GB or 16GB RAM | STORAGE: 128GB or 256GB | OS: Android 14, OxygenOS 14 | BATTERY: 5500mAh | CAMERA: 50 MP (wide), 2 MP (macro), 8 MP (ultrawide), up to 4K videos at 30fps, 16MP (wide) selfie camera

In second place – the OnePlus 12R. The OnePlus 12R takes the crown for the longest-lasting non-gaming phone. This champion boasts a massive 5,500 mAh battery and the power-efficient Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip (used in many other battery life leaders). This combo lets you crush a full day and more on a single charge. Don’t let the “older” chipset fool you – it’s the key to the OnePlus 12R’s attractive price.

In the U.S., you can snag a 128GB model for just $499, with other regions starting at $599 for 256GB. Despite the budget-friendly price tag, OnePlus keeps its signature fast charging. The U.S. version features 80W wired charging, blasting your phone to a whopping 96% in just 30 minutes. However, be aware that wireless charging is not included.

Asus ROG Phone 8 Pro

Battery Beast with Blazing-Fast Charging

DISPLAY: 6.78-inches, AMOLED, 1080 x 2400, 165Hz, HDR10 | PROCESSOR: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 | MEMORY: 16GB or 24GB RAM | STORAGE: 512GB or 1TB | OS: Android 14 | BATTERY: 5500mAh | CAMERA: 50 MP (wide), 32 MP (telephoto) with 3x optical zoom, 13 MP (ultrawide), up to 8K video at 24fps, 32 MP (wide) selfie camera

Guess who’s taking the gold nugget in the list – Yep, you guessed it, the Asus ROG Phone 8 Pro. Despite a smaller battery compared to its predecessor, the ROG Phone 8 Pro blows expectations out of the water with nearly 19 hours of battery life. That’s a whopping 16 minutes longer than the previous record holder, the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate!

This phone is a gamer’s dream – you can say goodbye to battery anxiety during intense gaming sessions. The included 65W charger is another champion. It can juice it up to 71% in just 30 minutes, with a full charge taking only 50 minutes. So, mark your calendars! This long-lasting powerhouse, the ROG Phone 8 Pro, is one of the best smartphones with long battery life.

Lastly

So there you have it! This list should equip you with all the knowledge you need to find the perfect smartphone with a battery life that can keep up with your demanding lifestyle (or lack thereof, no judgment here). Remember, a phone with a long battery life is like a loyal friend – it’ll always be there for you, no matter how many cat videos you watch or social media spirals you have.

So what’s next? Pick one of these smartphones with long battery life, click on a link, and get one. Just don’t forget to call your mom occasionally, even if your phone has the battery life to last until next Tuesday.

Pick The Most Popular VR Headsets To Buy Now

Stepping into VR for the first time? It’s an amazing journey, and this guide will help you choose from our selection of the most popular VR headsets to unlock that new world. We’ve narrowed down the top options to make your decision a little more easier. For console gamers, the PSVR 2 with its compatible accessories makes VR highly accessible. If you prefer a standalone option with more flexibility, the Meta Quest 3 is a great choice. The good news is there are plenty of fantastic VR headsets available!

However, VR isn’t exactly budget-friendly – some VR headsets can cost as much as a console or even a PC. To help you navigate this, we’ve included options for different platforms and budgets, along with some wireless choices for those who crave a cable-free experience.

What is a VR Headset

A VR headset, short for virtual reality headset, is a head-mounted device that transports you into a simulated world. Imagine strapping on a pair of goggles with built-in screens – that’s essentially a VR headset. These screens project different images for each eye, creating a 3D illusion.

Combined with motion tracking technology, VR headsets can detect your head movements, allowing you to look around the virtual environment just as you would in the real world. This immersive experience makes VR ideal for gaming, where you can feel like you’re truly part of the action, but it also has applications in various fields like education, training, and even physical therapy.

Benefits and Costs

VR headsets offer exciting benefits. They can provide unparalleled gaming experiences, revolutionize training simulations, and even allow for virtual travel to faraway destinations at your very own home. Additionally, VR headsets can be a powerful tool for education, enabling students to explore historical events or complex scientific concepts in an interactive way.

However, VR headsets also come with drawbacks. They cost a lot of money, that’s why it can be a barrier to entry, and some users experience nausea or dizziness during extended hours of use. Another consideration is the content library – while it’s growing, VR experiences may not yet be as plentiful as traditional games or media.

Overall, VR headsets come with numerous benefits that let you experience gaming in a whole other level. Although it comes with it’s drawbacks, such as a high price tag, side effects after prolong use, and limited gaming titles, these become minor as soon as you get it. So if you want a different gaming experience, consider getting one of these popular VR headsets.

Popular VR Headsets

As promised, let’s take a look at our selection of the most popular VR headsets to buy right.

Meta Quest Pro

Comfortable VR headset

Benefits

  • Comfortable for long sessions
  • Impressive performance
  • Sleek controller design

Costs

  • Short battery life
  • One of the more expensive options

The Meta Quest Pro might be the priciest of one of our popular VR headsets on the market, but it justifies the cost with its user-friendly design and top-notch features. No extra equipment is needed to set it up, making it a convenient jump into VR. Think of it as a buffed-up Quest 2. The controllers are a standout improvement, boasting a sleek and comfortable design that feels more premium. Comfort extends to the headset itself, with a cushioned headband ideal for extended VR adventures.

Hand tracking gets a nice upgrade over the Quest 2, making gameplay smoother. While it might not be the absolute most precise on the market (compared to Valve Index or PSVR 2), it’s a noticeable improvement. The only real downside is the battery life – it falls a bit short when used without a cable. Hopefully, this gets addressed in the upcoming Meta Quest 3.

HTC Vive Pro 2

Best in high-resolution

SPECS

Display: 5K OLED, 2448 x 2448 pixels (5K) per eye, 120Hz refresh rate

Benefits

  • Very high resolution
  • Wide field of view
  • Access to great games
  • Great performance

Costs

  • Tends to run heat-up
  • Lots of cables
  • Needs a high-end PC to run

The HTC Vive Pro 2 boasts a highest 5K resolution display among PC VR headsets, offering stunning visuals for those seeking the absolute best. However, this one is expensive, and it comes with some limitations. This wired headset requires a complex setup with multiple cables, making it cumbersome for everyday use. Additionally, its powerful performance generates heat, making longer VR sessions uncomfortable.

While the Vive Pro 2 has drawbacks, its strengths are undeniable. If you have a top-tier PC and prioritize the most detailed and immersive visuals possible, the Vive Pro 2 delivers. It offers a massive “5K” resolution, a wide 120-degree field of view, and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate – features currently unmatched by most competitors. Just be prepared for a premium VR experience that comes with some trade-offs.

PSVR 2

Best for console gaming

SPECS

Display: OLED, 2,000 x 2,040 pixels per eye, 120Hz refresh rate | Eye tracking: Yes | Works with glasses: Yes

Benefits

  • Impressively vivid, OLED display
  • Comfortable fit
  • Impressive controllers
  • Realistic vibrations
  • Powerful gaming graphics

Costs

  • Expensive
  • Needs a PS5 console
  • Included earbuds work standard
  • No reverse compatibility to PSVR games
  • Not enough gam exclusives

The PSVR 2 is a high-end VR experience, but be prepared to pay a high price, and you need to have a PS5 console. Unlike some competitors, it’s wired, not wireless. However, the PSVR 2 boasts top-notch features: a stunning HDR OLED display, impressive graphics quality, built-in eye tracking, and advanced controllers that recreate the feeling of real objects in your hands.

These features elevate the best games to a whole new level. The PSVR 2 is also rumored to be a potential home for top PC VR games, and already boasts exclusives like Gran Turismo 7, Resident Evil Village, and Horizon: Call of the Mountain.

Here’s the trade-off: the PSVR 2 currently lacks any social VR features (like a metaverse) and feels focused purely on playing VR games. Many existing games are ports playable on other headsets like the Quest 2. However, as more games optimized for the PSVR 2 hardware are released, it has the potential to become a leader in the standalone VR market.

If you’re unsure, waiting to see how the game library develops might be wise. However, for those who trust Sony’s vision and want to jump into a premium VR experience now, the PSVR 2 offers a compelling option.

Meta Quest 3

Best Overall

SPECS

Display: LCD, 2,064 x 2,208 pixels per eye, 120Hz refresh rate | Eye tracking: No | CPU: Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 | Works with glasses: Yes

Benefits

  • Impressive high-res displays
  • Improved CPU
  • Mixed reality with better color cameras
  • Smaller controllers with improved haptics

Costs

  • High price tag
  • Limited apps and games to use
  • Not very comfortable
  • Short battery life

The Meta Quest 3 is a solid upgrade to the Quest 2, offering a sleeker design, sharper visuals, and better controllers. It even throws in a taste of mixed reality, blending the real world with the virtual. While this mixed reality feature might not be groundbreaking yet, it’s a glimpse into the future and available at a more affordable price point compared to competitors.

However, the Quest 3 doesn’t revolutionize VR. Familiar Quest software and a lack of widespread mixed reality experiences hold it back a bit. Comfort hasn’t improved, and hand tracking remains good but not flawless.

Overall, the Quest 3 is likely to be the best VR headset for its price for a while. But for most users, the Quest 2 remains a solid option. It boasts great visuals and even works well for PC VR gaming. In short, the Quest 3 offers exciting upgrades, but the Quest 2 might still be enough for many. Consider your needs and budget before taking the plunge into VR.

Should I Buy A VR Headset

So, should you buy a VR headset? It depends on your priorities and your budget. If you’re a die-hard gamer eager to experience the next level of immersion, or you crave a unique way to explore and learn, a VR headset can be a worthwhile investment.

However, if you’re on a tight budget or prone to motion sickness, it might be wise to wait and see how VR technology develops. The best way to decide is to find and try a VR headset firsthand. See if a friend one you can borrow, or visit an arcade or VR experience center. Once you’ve experienced the magic (or potential discomfort) of VR, you’ll be better equipped to decide if it’s the right choice for you.

Be sure to leave or share a comment below. If you’re interested getting one our popular VR headsets, then go ahead. Click on the blue buttons to above and start VR gaming. That’s for me. Stay safe, until next time 😀

Updates on New Elden Ring Shadow Of The ErdTree DLC

Fellow Tarnished. The latest expansion for the new DLC is nearly upon us. We will once again adventure into uncharted territory once more with the promise of getting more weapons, explore dungeons, fighting new enemies and challenging bosses, and more. So let’s not waste anymore time. Here’s the latest information on the upcoming Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC from FromSoftware.

Firstly, the release date of the upcoming DLC is on June 21st 2024. It will cost you US$40, and is available on all platforms, namely, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. The expansion content is packed with more bosses, more weapons, more dungeons, all awaiting the Tarnished in a new massive world. Is it worth the price? FromSoftware has a successful record and gained immense popularity of releasing state-of-the-art DLCs, so it is worth the cost.

Summary – Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC

The setting of Elden Ring: Shadow Of The ErdTree DLC is distinct from the original game’s territories. The new location is around the same size as Limgrave, the expansive area where players begin the main game. The number of dungeons and features that are crammed into the newly named ‘Land of Shadow’ has not been disclosed by FromSoftware. However, the company has validated a number of the DLC’s introductions, such as:

  • More than a 100 new weapons
  • 8 new types of weapons
  • 10 new bosses
  • A number of new legacy dungeons including medium and small dungeons
  • A new number of extra spells, spirit ash summons, and additional ashes of war

All the new weapons, and skills gained from the ‘Land of Shadow’ can be used in the main game. You don’t need to create a new character for the DLC. You can bring your current character with all the items you got from the main game into the DLC.

But there’s a catch. Two things you need to do. Firstly, the Tarnished must defeat two strong bosses – the legendary boss, ‘Starscourge Radahn‘ and the demigod, ‘Mohg, Lord of Blood‘. Secondly, the Tarnished must be between level 120 and 150. This is more of a recommendation than a must, as the Tarnished needs enough attributes to tackle the challenges in the DLC. When that is done, the Tarnished can then the access the DLC. But how?

To access the Elden Ring: Shadow Of The ErdTree DLC, the Tarnished must enter the Mohgwyn Palace, defeat the demigod, Mohg, and head towards the giant cracked meat egg with the withered arm sticking out. Touch the arm then the Tarnished will start at the new DLC area, the ‘Land of Shadow’.

Player Tips & Tactics

With the release date fast approaching, there are a few things you can do to prepare for your return to the Lands Between:

Ensure you’ve defeated Radahn and Mohg

As stipulated above your Tarnished needs to defeat the two legendary bosses from Elden Ring: Radahn and Mohg. These bosses are really not easy, especially Mohg, as they both have a lot of health and use powerful attacks. However, there are lots of tricks and strategies available online for you to review and use if you constantly get knocked out by them. These are the primary key requirements for your Tarnished to access the DLC.

Level up your character

Ideally, aim for a character level between 120 and 150 for a smooth experience. The Elden Ring: Shadow Of The ErdTree DLC comes with a number of new enemies, dungeons, and let’s not forget the tough bosses too. There are items in the DLC to help strengthen your Tarnished if you feel under leveled but it’s a good idea to start at a reasonably high level. If leveling up fast is a problem for you, there are tricks and tips available online to help your Tarnished farm runes faster in the Elden Ring game.

Stock up on consumables

Gather resources like healing items and crafting materials to face the new challenges ahead. Whether it’s finding crafting materials to make healing consumables or offensive items, the Tarnished needs all the advantages to overcome the challenges ahead in the DLC.

Review your build

Consider optimizing your character’s build to be more effective against the potential enemy types you will encounter in the DLC. There’s the option to respec your Tarnished with Rennala Queen of the Moon, which I’m sure your Tarnished must have defeated her by now, but that means farming items such as Larval Tears in the game. There’s also the option to level up your weapons, and summons as well. Overall, there’s a lot of options for you to optimize your Tarnished.

Whether you’re a seasoned Tarnished seeking new trials or simply eager to return to the captivating world of Elden Ring, Shadow of the Erdtree DLC seems poised to deliver a satisfying continuation of your adventures.

This article dives into the current landscape of Microsoft Surface laptops, helping you navigate the available options and identify the ideal device for your needs and budget. We’ll also discuss some key considerations to keep in mind, such as potential limitations in upgradability and ports. So, buckle up and get ready to discover the perfect Microsoft Surface laptop for you to elevate your mobile computing experience!

Reasons Why Microsoft Surface Laptops Shine

Microsoft Surface laptops can be a great choice for many reasons, but they might not be the absolute best for everyone. Here’s a breakdown of why Surface laptops might be perfect for you, along with some things to consider:

  • Premium Design and Build Quality: Surface laptops are known for their sleek, stylish design and high-quality materials like aluminum. They feel luxurious and well-made.
  • Lightweight and Portable: Many Surface laptops are very thin and light, making them perfect for students or professionals who need to carry their laptop around all day.
  • Excellent Displays: Surface laptops typically boast crisp, vibrant ‘PixelSense’ displays with great resolution, making them ideal for tasks like photo editing or watching videos.
  • Strong Battery Life: Many Surface laptops offer long battery life, allowing you to work or play for hours on a single charge.
  • Windows Integration: Since Microsoft designs both the hardware and software, Surface laptops offer a seamless Windows experience. Updates and features are often optimized specifically for these devices.
  • Touchscreen Option: Some Surface laptops offer touchscreen functionality, allowing for a more versatile and interactive computing experience.
  • 2-in-1 Flexibility (Some Models): Select Surface laptops like the Laptop Studio can be used as both a traditional laptop and a tablet with a kickstand and detachable keyboard, offering more flexibility in how you use it.

Things to Consider

  • Price: Surface laptops tend to be on the higher end of the price spectrum compared to some other Windows laptops with similar specs.
  • Limited Upgradeability: Many Surface laptops aren’t designed to be easily upgraded with new RAM or storage after purchase.
  • Fewer Ports: Some Surface laptops have a minimal number of ports, so you might need adapters for connecting external devices.
  • Gaming Performance: Surface laptops aren’t typically designed for hardcore gaming. If gaming is a priority, you might be better suited with a different laptop with a dedicated graphics card.

Latest Microsoft Surface Laptops

Now we know why Surface laptops are worth choosing, let’s see the latest range of Microsoft Surface laptops that you can buy now.

Surface Pro 9

A Reigning Champion With Minor Flaws

Display: 13-inch PixelSense Flow, 120Hz (2880 x 1920) touchscreen | CPU: Intel Core i7 1255U | Graphics: Intel Iris Xe | Memory: 16GB RAM | Storage: 1TB SSD | OS: Windows 11 Home | Ports: 2 x USB-C with USB 4.0/Thunderbolt 4

Even after ten years, the Intel-powered Surface Pro 9 remains a leader in the high-end Windows tablet market. Its stunning display, lightweight build, long battery life, and robust accessory selection make it a true laptop replacement. However, there are a couple of drawbacks to consider. The limited ports and lack of built-in 5G connectivity might be dealbreakers for some. For 5G, you’ll need the SQ3 Surface Pro model, which sacrifices some performance and app compatibility.

The starting price of $999 might seem steep, especially after factoring in storage and RAM upgrades, not to mention the near-essential keyboard cover. While Microsoft accessories can be expensive, occasional sales can help ease the burden. The main competitor, Dell’s XPS 13 2-in-1, comes close in price but falls short on battery life.

Overall, the Microsoft Surface Pro 9 continues the legacy of excellence, earning as one of our best Microsoft Surface laptop for its impressive performance and functionality among high-end Windows tablets. Just be aware of the potential drawbacks concerning ports, 5G connectivity, and overall cost.

Surface Laptop Studio 2

A Powerful Transformer with a Premium Price Tag

Display: 14.4-inch PixelSense Flow, 120Hz (2400 x 1600) touchscreen | CPU: Intel Core i7 13700H | Graphics: GeForce RTX 4050 | Memory: 16GB RAM | Storage: 512GB SSD | OS: Windows 11 Home | Ports: 2 x USB-C with USB 4.0/Thunderbolt 4, 1 x USB-A, microSD card reader

The Surface Laptop Studio 2 stands out with its innovative design. It offers portability and a touch-friendly mode like a smaller laptop, but packs the muscle of a professional creator machine. This unique combination makes it highly desirable, with the only real downside being the high cost.

While some creative professionals might find the screen’s color coverage lacking, the target audience for a high-performance system already understands the price tag that comes with such power. There are no truly affordable alternatives, and even those offering similar or more power fall short of the Surface Laptop Studio 2’s three-mode, touch-centric design.

You might sacrifice a larger OLED display, but for users who prioritize the convenience of drawing and designing on a tablet with the performance of a professional laptop, the Surface Laptop Studio 2 is in a league of its own. This innovative design earns it as one of our best designed laptop.

Surface Laptop Go 3

A Budget Favorite Stumbles With a Price Hike

Display: 12.4-inch PixelSense Flow (1536 x 1024) touchscreen | CPU: Intel Core i5 1235U | Graphics: Intel Iris Xe | Memory: 8GB RAM | Storage: 256GB SSD | OS: Windows 11 Home | Ports: 1 x USB-C 3.2 (data, DisplayPort and charging), 1 x USB-A 3.1, 1 x headphone/mic jack

The Surface Laptop Go line was once a budget champion, but a $200 price increase for the Go 3 throws a wrench into its appeal. While it boasts a newer processor and improved battery life, the jump in cost makes it compete with laptops offering more features and performance.

In this new price range, rivals boast larger, sharper screens, higher-end specs, and similar build quality. The Surface Laptop Go 3, once a budget leader, now finds itself in a crowded mid-range field with little to stand out. Microsoft’s sleek design can’t hide the confusion surrounding the Laptop Go line’s target audience. For budget-conscious buyers, the price hike is going to make you look elsewhere. For those willing to spend more, better options abound.

Looking for a similar price point? Consider the Asus Zenbook 14 OLED or the ever-reliable M1 MacBook Air instead.

Surface Laptop 5 (15-inch)

Stylish and Portable, But Overpriced for Power Users

Display: 15-inch PixelSense Flow (2496 x 1664) touchscreen | CPU: Intel Core i7 1265U | Graphics: Intel Iris Xe | Memory: 16GB RAM | Storage: 512GB SSD | OS: Windows 11 Pro| Ports: 1 x USB-A 3.1, 1 x Thunderbolt 4

Microsoft’s Surface Laptop 5 is, like its predecessor, a well-built laptop that prioritizes portability and a modern feature set. The construction looks and feels high quality, the screen looks nice, and the battery is long lasting.

This build comes at a premium, though, and it’s lacking in key areas by comparison. For a similar price—less in the case of the Slim 7 Pro X, more for the XPS 15—competitors with matching amounts of RAM and storage offer some combination of better CPUs, discrete GPUs, OLED displays, better webcams, and more ports. The cost of bumping up the memory and storage in Laptop 5 configurations is pretty high, without those added benefits, and a lightweight CPU as the only option.

All that’s left to say is that the Surface Laptop 5 is a nice all-rounder laptop, but it’s better suited to mobile users who appreciate a sleek design over power. The same philosophy guides the SQ3-based Surface Pro 9 and the Dell XPS 13, so you could well call this a trend. The high price, lacking features, and low power ceiling limits the upside, but there’s still a lot here to like as long as you don’t need higher-end power and value style. If you need more, the Dell XPS 15 OLED is much better suited to pro users, while the Lenovo Slim 7 Pro X is the best deal.

Surface Laptop 5 (13.5-inch)

An Alternative Option in a Competitive Market

Display: 13.5-inch PixelSense Flow (2256 x 1504) touchscreen | CPU: Intel Core i5 1245U | Graphics: Intel Iris Xe | Memory: 16GB RAM | Storage: 256GB SSD | OS: Windows 10 Pro| Ports: 1 x USB-A 3.1, 1 x Thunderbolt 4

The Surface Laptop 5 (13.5) is a forgettable laptop struggling to find its place in a crowded market. While functional, it lacks the punch to justify its price tag. The base model, priced at $999, offers underwhelming specs – an Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM, and a 256GB SSD. For the same price, you could get a significantly better MacBook Air M1 (2020) or even the newer M2 model. Upgrading to a decent configuration with an i7 processor, 16GB RAM, and 512GB SSD pushes the price to a staggering $1,700, putting it in high-end Ultrabook territory.

While a variety of colors are available, most appear dull and uninspired, with the exception of the Sandstone option. The overall design feels dated as well. Performance is a major concern. Background processes gobble up resources, causing sluggishness while browsing or working on documents. We even experienced random program crashes during benchmarks.

Battery life falls far short of the advertised 18 hours. In reality, expect closer to 10 hours for productivity tasks and just 7.5 hours for streaming movies. While the charging speed is decent, the dated Surface Connect port should be replaced with a more modern Thunderbolt 4 option. The keyboard, trackpad, and touchscreen are bright spots, offering a comfortable and responsive user experience. The new accessibility features are also a welcome addition.

Unfortunately, these positive aspects are overshadowed by the Surface Laptop 5’s overall mediocrity. In a market filled with strong contenders, it’s hard to recommend this underwhelming and overpriced laptop.

The Best 4K Gaming Monitors To Buy Now

The rise of powerful graphics cards has fueled a surge in interest for 4K gaming monitors. With 8.3 million pixels (3840 x 2160), these monitors deliver incredibly sharp and realistic visuals for your favorite video games. However, there’s a catch: you’ll need a top-of-the-line graphics card to achieve smooth, playable frame rates at 4K resolution.

Beyond stunning visuals, 4K monitors allow you to enjoy larger screen sizes without sacrificing image quality. The high pixel density lets you go beyond 30 inches without noticing individual pixels, perfect for immersive gaming experiences. Be prepared for a premium price tag, though. 4K monitors are a significant investment.

On top of the monitor itself, you’ll need a powerful graphics card with features like a 120Hz+ refresh rate, low response time, and compatible Adaptive-Sync technology (either G-Sync for Nvidia or FreeSync for AMD, or both). If that interests you, then check out our list of the best 4K gaming monitors to buy now.

4K Gaming Monitor Buying Tips

Let’s slow down a bit. Before we go anymore further, it’s best that you consider the following when you’re looking to buy a 4K gaming monitor:

Graphics Card Power

As stated before, 4K gaming requires a serious graphics card. I’m not talking about the Intel Iris Xe or Intel UHD graphics cards you find in budget or mid-range computers or laptops. I’m talking about top-branded graphic cards from NVIDIA GeForce or AMD Radeon.

If you don’t have a top-of-the-line graphics card like the GeForce RTX 4090 or Radeon RX 7900 XTX, the least you can get is a GeForce RTX 3080 or Radeon RX 6900 XT so that you can play video games at medium or high graphics settings.

G-Sync or FreeSync

This depends on your graphics card. G-Sync works with NVIDIA cards, while FreeSync works with AMD Radeon cards. Technically, G-Sync can run on FreeSync monitors, but performance might suffer. Honestly, the difference in preventing screen tearing between the two is minimal for most games.

Response Time

Some jargon to note. The GtG means the ‘Gray-to-Gray’ measurement. When you see a ‘1ms’ on the spec, it means the response time of the monitor for a pixel, as a response to an input signal. The lower the number, the better the response time, the less the moving image creates a “blur” or “trailing” effects on the screen.

Bonus Tip

4K and HDR are a great combination! Many 4K monitors support HDR for super vibrant colors and brightness. For the smoothest HDR experience with variable refresh rates, look for 4K gaming monitors with G-Sync Ultimate or FreeSync Premium Pro (formerly FreeSync 2 HDR) certifications. To see a clear improvement over a standard monitor, aim for at least 600 nits of brightness.

Best 4K Gaming Monitors

Now that we got that out of the way, let’s move on forward and see what we have selected as the best 4K gaming monitors to buy.

Acer Nitro XV282K

The Best Budget-Friendly 150Hz 4K Gaming Monitor

Screen Details: 28-inch, IPS, 150Hz |  Response time (GtG): 1ms | Adaptive-Sync: FreeSync

Acer’s Nitro XV282K steps in to fill the gap, offering a compelling package for under US$900. It delivers a gorgeous IPS panel with a sharp 157ppi pixel density and a true 150Hz refresh rate. It goes beyond the basics too, boasting extended color gamut, HDR support, and Adaptive-Sync compatibility. It also supports FreeSync so you can enjoy gameplay with compatible AMD Radeon graphics cards.

While the native color depth is 8-bit, the XV282K uses Frame Rate Conversion (FRC) to process 10-bit signals effectively, and we didn’t see any banding issues in testing. Overall, the Acer Nitro XV282K offers a compelling combination of features and performance at a competitive price, making it a great choice for gamers seeking a sweet spot in the world of 4K gaming at 144Hz.

Asus ROG Swift PG42UQ

Best OLED 4K Gaming Monitor

Screen Details: 42-inch, OLED, 138Hz |  Response time (GtG): 0.1ms | Adaptive-Sync: FreeSync & G-Sync Compatible

Asus, a leader in gaming monitors, has released the ROG Swift PG42UQ – a high-end option catering to enthusiasts who prioritize stunning visuals and smooth gameplay. The star of the show is the massive 42-inch OLED panel with 4K resolution (3840 x 2160).

This translates to incredibly sharp visuals and vibrant colors. Gamers will appreciate the blazing-fast 0.1 ms response time and a native 120Hz refresh rate, overclockable to 138Hz for even smoother gameplay. The ROG Swift PG42UQ excels in nearly every aspect.

Out-of-the-box color calibration is superb, video processing is top-notch, input lag is minimal, and the OLED panel delivers unbeatable contrast. Asus doesn’t skimp on the overall package either. The monitor boasts premium construction and comes with a remote for controlling on-screen menus, volume on the built-in speakers, and a full range of ports for connecting your devices, including HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort 1.4, and multiple USB ports.

Asus ROG Swift PG32UQ

A Feature-Packed Budget 4K Gaming Monitor

Screen Details: 32-inch, IPS, 155Hz |  Response time (GtG): 1ms | Adaptive-Sync: FreeSync & G-Sync Compatible

The 32-inch 4K gaming monitor market is packed, but the Asus ROG Swift 32 aims to cut through the noise with some unique features. First up, it boasts a 155Hz refresh rate, edging out the typical 144Hz standard for smoother gameplay (though the benefit might be minimal).

But that’s not all. The Swift 32 delivers stunning visuals with rich, vibrant colors on an IPS panel. HDR content shines with excellent contrast thanks to HDR 600 certification. Add in a wide color gamut, a lightning-fast 1ms response time, compatibility with both FreeSync and G-Sync, and top-notch video processing, and you have a recipe for a winning monitor.

This feature-packed Asus monitor performs well across the board and comes in at a very competitive price, making it one of the most great valued 4K gaming monitors.

Asus TUF Gaming VG289Q

Best Cheap 4K Gaming Monitor

Screen Details: 28-inch, IPS, 60Hz | Response time (GtG): 5ms | Adaptive-Sync: FreeSync

The Asus TUF Gaming VG289Q is a great option for gamers who want to experience 4K resolution on a budget. It delivers smooth visuals with a competent overdrive function that minimizes motion blur and ghosting. While the refresh rate is limited to 60Hz (with FreeSync support down to 48Hz), it’s enough for a good initial foray into 4K gaming.

The display produces rich and colorful visuals in standard definition (SDR), but HDR content doesn’t show a significant improvement. Overall, the VG289Q is a solid choice for budget-conscious gamers who want to take the plunge into 4K resolution without sacrificing affordability.

Dell G3223Q

Best Overall 4K Gaming Monitor

Screen Details: 32-inch, IPS, 144Hz | Response time (GtG): 1ms | Adaptive-Sync: FreeSync & G-Sync Compatible

The Dell G3223Q is a strong contender in the 4K gaming monitor market. It boasts a large 32-inch display, super low input lag, and a great balance between response time and clear motion. As expected for a 4K gaming monitor, it features a 144Hz refresh rate and supports both AMD FreeSync and Nvidia G-Sync for smooth visuals.

Beyond the essentials, the Dell G3223Q delivers a vibrant picture with excellent color accuracy out of the box, excelling in both DCI-P3 and sRGB color gamuts. HDR content also looks great with DisplayHDR 600 support.

While contrast and color gamut volume might not be the absolute best compared to some competitors, the Dell G3223Q makes up for it with a very attractive price tag. This makes it a fantastic option for budget-minded gamers seeking a high-quality 4K gaming experience.

Samsung Odyssey Neo G8

Best Premium 4K Gaming Monitor

Screen Details: 32-inch VA UHD, 240Hz | Response Time (GtG): 1ms | Adaptive-Sync: FreeSync & G-Sync Compatible

Most 4K gaming monitors boast a 144Hz refresh rate, but Samsung’s Odyssey Neo G8 is the exception. It throws down a staggering 240Hz refresh rate, typically seen in high-end 1440p monitors, making it ideal for super-smooth gameplay.

That’s not all Samsung throws into the ring. The Neo G8 boasts a impressive curved 32-inch VA panel for an immersive experience. Mini-LED backlighting with 1,196 dimming zones delivers exceptional contrast and brightness. Right out of the box, the color accuracy is impressive, and both SDR and HDR image quality are top-notch.

There are a couple of minor drawbacks to consider. The color gamut volume falls behind some competitors. Additionally, the high price tag isn’t for the faint of heart. However, compared to other Mini-LED monitors from ViewSonic and Asus, the Neo G8 starts to look like a relative bargain.

Sony Inzone M9

Best 4K Gaming Monitor for Consoles

Screen Details: 27-inch, IPS, 144Hz | Response time (GtG): 1ms | Adaptive-Sync: FreeSync & G-Sync Compatible

While many 4K gaming monitors cater solely to PCs, the Sony Inzone M9 adopts a different approach. It’s optimized for both PC and consoles like the PlayStation 5, making it a versatile option for gamers. The Inzone M9 boasts a perfect storm of features: a crisp 27-inch IPS display, a smooth 144Hz refresh rate with support for both AMD FreeSync and Nvidia G-Sync, superb color accuracy, and a FALD backlight for impressive contrast. It even comes with a handy Inzone app for easy configuration.

Sony doesn’t stop there. The design echoes the launch edition PlayStation consoles with a sleek white and black motif. Dual HDMI 2.1 ports ensure compatibility with the latest gaming consoles. And to sweeten the deal, the Inzone M9 offers a built-in KVM switch, allowing you to seamlessly switch between your console and PC.

With excellent performance for both gaming and content creation, thoughtful features, and a competitive price tag, the Sony Inzone M9 is a compelling choice for gamers who want a monitor that seamlessly integrates with their PC and PlayStation 5.

5 HP Good Budget Laptops To Look Out For

One of the leading laptop manufacturers, HP offers a laptop for each need, from high-end corporate computers to reasonably priced Chromebooks. This comprehensive range of options may make it difficult for you to choose the best laptop for you, so here’s a helpful list of good budget laptops from HP.

HP Pavilion Laptop

A Strong Mid-Range Contender with Minor Trade-Offs

Display: 15.6-inch HD touchscreen (1366 x 768) | CPU: Intel Core i3-1215U  (12th gen) | RAM: 8GB/16GB DDR4 | Graphics: Intel UHD Integrated | Storage: 256GB/512GB/1TB | OS: Windows 11 Home | Ports: 1 x USB-C 3.0, 2 x USB-A 3.0, 1 x HDMI

The HP Pavilion Laptop is a solid mid-ranger packed with impressive hardware. It boasts either an 8GB or 16GB of RAM, either a speedy 256GB, 512GB or a 1TB SSD storage, an Intel Core processor, and a 15.6-inch touchscreen. This combination makes it a contender for our best mid-range laptops list. Performance is decent, nearly matching high-end 11th-gen Intel processors. The attractive, slim design feels looks premium and more expensive than it is and offers vital ports for various needs. The keyboard is comfortable, and the trackpad is reliable.

For everyday tasks like photo editing, web browsing, or watching videos, the Pavilion excels without getting overly hot or loud. However, it’s not perfect and comes with compromises, which includes:

  • No keyboard backlight.
  • All plastic construction.
  • Not recommended for heavy gaming.

If you can live with these limitations, the HP Pavilion Laptop is a great option. It delivers on its price point and feels well-built, except for the lack of a discrete graphics card. Battery life is decent but will be a concern for heavy use away from a power outlet. Overall, the HP Pavilion Laptop is a winner for users who understand its capabilities and limitations. It avoids feeling cheap despite its price tag, making it a strong competitor in the mid-range laptop market.

HP Envy 13 x360

A Solid 2-in-1 With a Great Display and Battery Life

Display: 13.3-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) | CPU: Intel Core i5-1135G7  (11th gen) | RAM: 8GB DDR4 | Graphics: Intel Iris Xe | Storage: 256GB/512GB/1TB/2TB | OS: Windows 10 | Ports: 2 x USB Type-A, 1 x USB Type-C, 1 x Headphone/Microphone, 1 x SD Media Card Reader

The HP Envy x360 is a no-frills 2-in-1 laptop available in classic black and silver. It might not win any design awards, but it excels in portability thanks to its thin and lightweight build and impressive battery life. This makes it a great choice for students or professionals who need a reliable machine on the go.

The 13-inch Full HD display is a highlight, offering a perfect size for portability and excellent screen quality with minimal bezels. It’s complemented with a standard 720p HD webcam – ideal for those who rely on video conferencing. Performance is on par with competitors, tackling everyday tasks like documents, spreadsheets, and video calls with ease. It can even handle some light to mid-range games and tasks like editing photos.

While the backlit keyboard is comfortable for extended typing sessions, the touchpad suffers from some minor sensitivity issues. This might be a dealbreaker for those who rely heavily on the touchpad, forcing them to use a mouse which negates the portability advantage. The Envy x360 offers a compelling package for its price, with the most powerful configuration.

Overall, the HP Envy x360 is a dependable 2-in-1 that prioritizes portability and battery life without sacrificing display quality or performance for everyday tasks. Just be aware of the potential touchpad quirks if you rely on it heavily.

HP Victus 15

Affordable Gaming Without Fancy Frills

Display: 15.6-inch FHD 144Hz (1920 x 1080) | CPU: Intel Core i5/AMD Ryzen 5 | RAM: 8GB/16GB DDR4 | Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 1650 or 2050 | Storage: 256GB/512GB/1TB | OS: Windows 11 Home | Ports: 2 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A, 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C, 1 x Power port, 1 x HDMI 2.1, 1 x SD Card Reader, 1 x Combo Jack, 1 x Ethernet port

The HP Victus is a budget gamer’s dream. It starts at an affordable price and offers decent specs without sacrificing an arm or a leg. While it’s no high-end machine, you get several color options and a surprisingly good 15.6-inch display with a 144Hz refresh rate for smooth visuals. The webcam is decent for streaming, and the keyboard is comfortable to type on despite lacking backlighting.

Performance comes courtesy of AMD Ryzen 5 or Intel Core i5 processors paired with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 2050 mobile GPU. This setup handles most games well, although demanding titles like Cyberpunk 2077 or Call Of Duty won’t run on ultra settings. Battery life is a known weakness of gaming laptops, and the Victus is no exception. Expect less than 5 hours on a single charge. Thankfully, it charges fairly quickly, but you might want to consider a USB-C charger for even faster top-ups.

Overall, the HP Victus is a solid choice for budget-minded gamers. It prioritizes affordability and performance over fancy extras, making it a great option for running most games at playable settings while still handling everyday tasks. Just be prepared to stay plugged in most of the time.

HP Omen 16

Powerful and Portable But With a Big Screen Quirk

Display: 16.1-inch FHD 144Hz (1920 x 1080) | CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 or 7 | RAM: 16GB DDR4 | Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 or 4050 | Storage: 512GB SSD | OS: Windows 11 | Ports: 2 x Thunderbolt 4, 2 x USB-A, 1 x RJ-45 ethernet, 1 x headphone jack, 1 x HDMI 2.1

Choosing a laptop can be overwhelming. Do you need the absolute best, a workhorse, or a gaming powerhouse? The HP Omen 16 tries to be all of them. This surprisingly slim and lightweight gaming laptop is easy to carry around, making it a great option for daily use. The keyboard is comfortable with plenty of key travel, and the large touchpad is responsive and clicks satisfyingly.

Performance is excellent, thanks to an AMD Ryzen 5 or 7 processor and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 or 4050 graphics card for gaming. The matte black design with RGB lighting looks sharp, and the Full HD resolution display is nice.

However, there’s a significant drawback: the bottom screen bezel. It’s a massive 1.5 inches, taking up valuable display real estate and looking out of place on a modern laptop. Additionally, the colors appear muted, possibly due to the anti-coating or limited color gamut. While you can adjust brightness and saturation in the Omen app, it doesn’t fully address the issue.

Despite these hiccups, the HP Omen 16 is a strong contender for the best affordable gaming laptop. It excels as a work and gaming hybrid, making it a potential all-rounder for many users. However, the large bezel and muted colors might be dealbreakers for some. Ultimately, it’s a powerful and portable option with some design compromises to consider.

HP Spectre x360 2-in-1

A Stylish 2-in-1 With a Few Quirks

Display: 16-inch IPS touchscreen 60Hz (3072 x 1920) | CPU: Intel Core i7-13700H (13th gen) | RAM: 16GB DDR4 | Graphics: Intel Iris Xe | Storage: 512GB/1TB SSD | OS: Windows 10 Pro | Ports: 1 x USB Type-C, 4 x USB Type-A, 2 x HDMI 2.0, 1 x Headphone/Mic Jack, 1 x RJ45 GE ethernet

The HP Spectre x360 is a head-turning 2-in-1 laptop with a sleek design, gorgeous brass accents, and a lightweight, portable build. It offers configurations with Intel Core i5 or i7 processors and 16GB of memory. However, availability can be limited outside the US.

Beyond looks, the Spectre x360 boasts a stunning FHD+ display with minimal bezels, making the most of its 16-inch screen. The keyboard is luxurious with comfortable key spacing, but the touchpad suffers from frustrating sensitivity issues. The webcam is a standard 720p resolution, but HP’s included lighting app helps improve picture quality. Performance is geared towards everyday tasks and low to mid-range games. While it won’t handle demanding titles like Cyberpunk 2077, it can run games like Civilization VI smoothly.

Thankfully, the Spectre x360 stays cool during use thanks to decent ventilation, and the battery lasts a solid eight hours on a charge. Audio quality is good, with surprisingly robust noise cancellation. Overall, the HP Spectre x360 is a stylish and powerful 2-in-1 for everyday use and casual gaming. Just be aware of the touchpad sensitivity issues and limited availability in some regions.

This article explores some of the best affordable OLED screen laptops currently on the market, catering to a variety of needs and budgets.

Why OLED Screen Laptops?

Before we get into it, here’s a few reasons why OLED screens are a compelling choice for laptops:

  • Superior Visual Experience: OLED displays boast deeper blacks, richer colors, and wider viewing angles. This translates to stunning visuals for everything you do on your laptop, from watching movies and browsing photos to editing images and working on documents.
  • Improved Contrast: The ability of OLED pixels to turn completely off results in exceptional contrast ratios. This means dark areas appear truly black, while bright areas shine brilliantly. This improved contrast enhances the overall viewing experience and reduces eye strain.
  • Exceptional Color Accuracy: OLED displays are known for their excellent color reproduction, making them ideal for creative professionals who demand accurate colors for tasks like photo and video editing.
  • Fast Response Times: OLED technology delivers incredibly fast response times, resulting in smoother visuals and reduced motion blur. This is especially beneficial for gamers and anyone who appreciates a seamless viewing experience.

People who need that much processing power often prioritize good graphics cards, which this laptop lacks (integrated graphics only).

The only audience I can imagine is someone on a tight budget who prioritizes a great OLED screen for watching movies or videos. Maybe a film student? While pricier options like the Dell XPS offer better battery life, speakers, build quality, and graphics, this Vivobook 14X OLED could be a good fit if screen quality is your absolute top concern.

For most users, this laptop is a neat idea but not very practical. Great specs on paper don’t translate to a great user experience if things like battery life suffer. The Intel Pentium processor paired with 8GB of RAM is sufficient for everyday use, though multitasking might be a bit sluggish. Storage is handled by a 256GB SSD. The Top Best Selling iPhones of 2024 Thus Far

Smartphones have become an undeniable cornerstone of modern life. With their ever-expanding capabilities, they connect us, inform us, and entertain us. In this competitive landscape, Apple’s iPhones continue to be a major force. Today, we delve into the best-selling iPhones in the first quarter of 2024, based on recent reports.

According to Counterpoint Research, Apple secured the top spot with the iPhone 15 Pro Max, its most feature-packed and expensive model. This flagship phone captured a significant 4.4% market share, making it the best-selling smartphone of first quarter of 2024. Notably, this is the first time a Pro Max variant has achieved this feat in a non-seasonal quarter, suggesting a potential shift in consumer preference towards high-end devices.

Apple’s success wasn’t limited to the Pro Max. The iPhone 15 smartphone series as a whole dominated the charts, with the iPhone 15 capturing a 4.3% market share, the iPhone 15 Pro capturing 3.7% market share, and the new iPhone 15 Plus only capturing a 1.3% market share.

The standard iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Pro, and even the previous year’s iPhone 14 (1.9% market share) followed closely behind the Pro Max, securing the second, third, and fourth positions respectively. This dominance highlights the overall appeal of the iPhone 15 series. It’s worth noting the growing popularity of the Pro line, with these models capturing half of Apple’s total sales in the first quarter of 2024 compared to just 24% in the same quarter of 2020.

Best Selling iPhones of 2024

Here are more details of the best-selling iPhones of 2024.

iPhone 15 Plus

A Capable Contender, But Questionable Value

The Apple iPhone 15 Plus is one of the least best selling iPhones thus far. It offers clear improvements over its predecessor in display, battery life, camera, performance, and battery charging. However, it falls short of the iPhone Pro models in several key areas: lacks the latest chip, no telephoto camera, lacks autofocus ultrawide, no high refresh rate display, and no customizable Action Button. These missing features will end up being the dealbreakers for some users.

Apple’s pricing strategy might hurt the 15 Plus, similar to the 14 Plus. It sits in an awkward spot – offering features of the cheaper iPhone but priced closer to the Pro models. While the iPhone 15 Plus itself is a good phone, its high price compared to both current and previous generation iPhones and even some Android devices makes it a tough recommendation. This positioning creates a difficult situation and raises questions about the future of the Plus lineup as a whole.

iPhone 14

Familiar Face, With Not-Enough New Features

The Apple iPhone 14 was, and still is, an evolution, not a revolution. Here’s a quick rundown of its features: The internal design makes replacing the back panel or screen a easier, it comes with a slightly larger battery with significant improvements in battery life and faster charging. The A15 Bionic chip gets a power-up with 5 GPU cores and 50% more RAM. It comes with connectivity upgrades, such as Bluetooth 5.3, a more efficient 5G modem, and emergency satellite connectivity for SOS messages. Better camera system, thanks to the larger main sensor, autofocus selfie camera, better low-light photos, and new video stabilization features.

While these are solid upgrades, they might not be reason enough to upgrade from an iPhone 13 or even 12. The biggest camera improvements are faster low-light capture, and the autofocus selfie camera might be the only real game-changer for some. Overall, the iPhone 14 is a dependable phone with some nice upgrades, but it lacks the excitement factor for recent iPhone owners. Budget-minded users might consider the iPhone 13 with potentially longer software support thanks to the A15 Bionic chip. No matter which you choose, you’re getting a solid phone that will last for years.

iPhone 15 Pro

Familiar Formula, Steady Upgrades (But Some Missed Opportunities)

The iPhone 15 Pro is a safe, iterative update. It offers modest improvements in key areas, but some aspects remain unchanged. For example, the exciting 5x telephoto lens is exclusive to the Pro Max, which is a letdown even if it’s not a huge dealbreaker. The usual downsides persist. This includes: high price tag, basic accessories, occasional iOS quirks, and performance throttling. However, Apple’s strengths are undeniably strong – premium build quality, stunning display, versatile camera system, and excellent speakers. And it comes with a USB-C port. Overall, the iPhone 15 Pro delivers what you expect: the best small-sized iPhone yet. It’s a solid choice for those due for an upgrade, but it won’t wow recent iPhone Pro owners.

iPhone 15

The Solid Entry-Level Model

Apple’s most affordable entry-model iPhone doesn’t feel like a distant cousin of the high-end models. For the first time, all iPhones get the sleek Dynamic Island display instead of the notch. The iPhone 15 pairs this beautiful screen with a stylish design featuring new materials and comfortable curved edges. But it’s not just looks! The iPhone 15 packs a punch with the powerful A16 Bionic chip and the long-awaited USB-C port for faster charging. Apple even upped the camera game with a new 48MP sensor and improved portrait features.

Overall, the iPhone 15 is the clear winner. You get all the new features and a fantastic experience without feeling like you’re missing out on the best Apple has to offer. If you have an older iPhone, the iPhone 15 is a worthy upgrade. However, it’s important to remember that Android phones generally offer better hardware and value. For some, that extra value might outweigh staying within the Apple brand.

iPhone 15 Pro Max

The Top-Selling Flagship

One of the best selling iPhones, if not the best selling, is the Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max. The iPhone 15 Pro Max might not win you over with its fancy materials (titanium frame) or a niche feature like a 5x telephoto lens. Even the powerful graphics chip won’t be fully utilized by most games right now.

So, what makes it worth it? The iPhone 15 Pro Max delivers a top-notch user experience, a luxurious design, premium services and warranty, smooth and reliable iOS, and a versatile camera system. This phone is a videographer’s dream, with the ability to capture high-quality 4K ProRes videos directly to external storage. While iPhone 14 Pro/Max users might not need to upgrade immediately, this is a significant leap forward from the 13 Pro Max and a major overhaul from the 12 Pro Max.

Potential Downsides? It does come with a really high price tag, that’s the first thing. the other thing is the reports of overheating or throttling of the 15 Pro Max, although this hasn’t been universally experienced.

Overall, you should consider the iPhone 15 Pro Max. It’s the best iPhone ever made, offering a stunning design, beautiful display, excellent performance, superb cameras and video, and long battery life. Even with some potential issues, it remains a top contender in the smartphone market. Is it the absolute best phone? It depends on your needs and priorities. But if you crave the ultimate Apple experience, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is a perfect fit.

The iPhone 15 Pro Max reigned supreme in Q1 2024, with the entire iPhone 15 family showcasing impressive sales figures. This trend might indicate a maturing smartphone market where users prioritize advanced features and functionality over strictly budget-friendly options. Not that the cheaper iPhones are worse off, they just have lesser features yet still function well, thanks to their specs and other features.

Although the iPhone 15 Pro Max takes the crown for one of the best selling iPhones this year, it’s not the perfect smartphone out there. There are other equally powerful smartphones to consider.
