Affordable smartphones right now are coming with great hardware packages, premium looks, and features, and the best part is that they are affordable compared to top-of-the-line smartphones.

So ask yourself… is there really a need to get a high-end smartphone whereas the budget smartphones can perform just as well?

I’m gonna have to say NO! But there’s a problem.

Problem is that there are a lot of them out right now so it becomes a challenge for us, consumers, to choose which one to get. 

But no worries, this article has reduced your choices down to five… yes, five budget smartphones to choose from.  

So if you are looking for the best budget smartphone with great features at an affordable price.

Huawei P30 Lite

Huawei has built a long line of loyal followers with its release of their “Lite” affordable smartphones with good overall performance and great camera quality. Now with the P30 Lite, will it have the muscle to maintain and compete with other budget brands? 

Let’s look at the Huawei P30 Lite.

You are looking at a 6-inch touchscreen, that comes with a Kirin 710 processor, 128 GB of internal storage, an optional expandable microSD slot for storage, and 6 GB of RAM. The phone comes with a good battery with fast charging and long hours of battery life. 

With the camera, you are looking at three lenses, with the main camera at 24 MP + 8 MP + 2 MP, and the selfie camera at 32 MP. You have options to take wide, ultra-wide, and night mode to enhance night pictures.  

For gamers, it comes with a “GPU Turbo Tech” which helps maintain the gameplay frame rate. So games like PUBG will run well on this device. 

Overall, this is a great budget phone at less than $ 300. It has good performance and great features.




Xiaomi Mi 9 SE

The Xiaomi smartphone comes with a Snapdragon 712 processor, 6 GB of system memory, and 64 GB of internal storage. The affordable smartphone comes with great battery life, good triple camera specs at 48 MP + 8 MP + 16 MP, and a 16 MP selfie camera.   

The phone has some drawbacks, no expandable storage card slot, no headphone jack, and on the radio. Another critical drawback is that it is only available in Asian countries. The screen is smaller at 5.7-inches. 

So if you see a worthy phone here, which is available at a great budget price of less than $ 300, and can afford import costs, then try it and see where it takes you.



Samsung Galaxy A50

Since the release of the premium smartphones Samsung Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus, the market for high-end phones has become competitive.

Now with the release of affordable smartphones, the smartphone giant plans to invade an even more competitive market, with the A50 coming with great looks and high-end features.   

Next, we look at the Samsung Galaxy A50 smartphone.

This phone comes with a 6.4-inch touchscreen with great features such as expandable memory, a fingerprint scanner on the display, and takes good-quality pictures.    

The entry model starts at 64 GB internal storage, and a 4000mAh battery with fast charging, and long hours of battery life.  

For gamers, this is a good budget phone for playing games. It comes with an Exynos 9610 processor with 4 GB of RAM. Gaming titles like PUBG work well, just be mindful that the phone will heat up after long hours of playtime. The speaker delivers an average sound quality compared to other budget phones. 

The price range is between $ 270 and $ 300. There are two models to consider: the 64 GB storage with 4 GB of RAM,  and the 128 GB storage with 6 GB of RAM

With a price like this, I recommend this phone to those who want a good budget phone. It has good performance, long battery life, and a good quality camera. It is not as good as the high-end phones but it competes well with other mid-range smartphone brands.



Oneplus 7

Next, we have the Oneplus 7 smartphone. It comes with a 6.4-inch touchscreen with a fingerprint scanner on the screen. Inside is a Snapdragon 855 processor, 8 GB of system memory, and 256 GB of internal storage. The phone also comes with all battery life and fast charging.  

These are some good specs especially with storage and memory, so yes internally this phone comes with a great package. No problems with gaming either as it gives no lag with games such as PUBG.

With the camera, you are looking at a dual-camera setup of 48 MP + 5 MP main camera, and a 16 MP selfie camera. You want a budget phone that takes good pics, this one has a good package.  

Fortunately, there is no card slot to expand your storage, no headphone jack, and no radio. It’s trending right with a price package of less than $ 500. There is also a 256 GB (12 GB of RAM) package, a bit more expensive but check out here

Google Pixel 3a

The Google Pixel 3a comes with a Snapdragon 670, 4 GB of system memory, and 64 GB of internal storage. The phone does have some average specs but it’s a budget phone. It is a simple phone that can do standard functions.  

This affordable smartphone comes with one main 12 MP camera and an 8 MP selfie camera. It works well and produces great pictures with night mode to brighten night pics. 

The phone comes with a 3000mAh battery so you looking at a full day’s battery life and fast charging. 

Right now it is trending at between $ 400 and just a little over $ 500. It is the perfect phone for regular users who enjoy taking pictures, scrolling online on social media. 

A few drawbacks to note: the smartphone is not water-proof and no wireless charging. So if you are looking at getting a standard budget phone from Google, then this one can be the smartphone for you.
