Laptop or Tablet: Which is Best

laptops or tablets

Laptop or tablet. Which one is best? Tablets have become reliable mobile devices because they offer several functions; they are portable and come with a user interface that is easy for you to navigate. Laptops may be old tech, but year after year they are made better and better, so they are still very much reliable and are still in great demand today. The question is, which one is better? Laptops or tablets? Which one is the better investment? Which one would add much more value? Which one will achieve your goals? Let’s take a look-see below.

Keyboard vs Touchscreen

With a tablet, you will have to use the touchscreen and use the virtual keypad interface to type out emails, documents, etc. It does become a challenge because you will need to: deal with the layout of the keypad; and also having to deal with not being able to type so quickly (unless you can type really fast on a graphical typo interface).

Whereas with a laptop, you’ll get to use a physical keyboard to do all your typing, which I’m sure you are used to by now. If you enjoy the touchscreen function where you get to point, drag or tap, a tablet is best for you. Laptops or tablets. If you do lots of typing and like to write a lot, then a laptop is a better option for you.

Screen Size and Weight

Tablets come in smaller sizes and weigh less, but have less powerful components and hardware specs. This makes it portable, easy to carry, and available as you move. Laptops come in bigger sizes and have more powerful components and specs, but weigh more. Laptops or tablets. If you want a lightweight, portable, and easy to carry, then a tablet is a better option for you.

Long Battery Life

Tablets are built for efficiency and need low power requirements to run internal components, which means less battery power is consumed less, meaning more battery run time. On average, you are looking at more than 12 hours of battery run time a day.

Laptops are built for performance, so they consume more battery power, which means you are looking at less than 8 hours of battery run time. Laptops or tablets, if you’re looking for a device with long battery life, tablets are the better choice.

SSD or HDD Storage

Tablets come with less storage capacity that is between 16 to 64 GB. That is small but it makes them cheaper to buy. They use Solid State Drive (SSD) storage, which decreases loading times of the operating system and quick access to apps.

Laptops have much more storage capacity of up to 2 TB but use the Hard Drive (HDD) storage. Nowadays laptops come with both SSD and HDD, with the operating system and apps stored on SDD, and HDD to store bigger files and documents.

Laptops or tablets. If you looking to need more storage space for files and documents, then a laptop is a better option for you.

More Power, More Performance

Tablets use low processing power, but can perform standard everyday functions well, like web browsing, send or receive emails, and playing audio and video files. They fall short when it needs to perform multitasks or run high graphic demanding apps.

Laptops have high processing power making them better at performing multitasks. Depending on the hardware, it can run high demanding apps and gaming.

Laptops or tablets. With more processing power and system performance, a laptop is a better option for you.

Software and Apps

Tablets come with either iOS or Android Operating System (OS), depending on the device brand. You will get access to the apps store, which gives you access to a wide variety of apps for you to use.

Laptops come with MS Windows OS. Because it has more processing power, it can run most of the apps and software available. The problem is that tablets cannot run the best well-known software from the laptop.

They will have to be compatible with the tablet’s OS and hardware to run. i.e. MS Office can not work well on a tablet unless MS develops an office software compatible with a tablet.

So if you want access to a great variety of software and/or apps, then a laptop is the better option. Laptop or tablet. If you want access to mobile apps that have limited functionality, then the better option is a tablet.

Money, Money, Money

A budget tablet can cost you less than $100, a mid-range at between $400 – $600, and a high-end tablet at over $1000. Remember, tablets have low processing power so they will not perform as well as a laptop, that’s why even budget laptops cost more.

So in essence, tablets are much cheaper to buy, whereas laptops are more expensive but more powerful. Usually, you would come across a tablet and a laptop with the same price, but the laptop would have better specs. So hey, no real answer for this one.

Laptop or Tablet. If you really can’t decide, then do a cost-benefit analysis between the tablet and the laptop you would like to buy.

To Buy one or Two, or Not

If you can buy one of them, then it’s better you get a laptop. It is a complete, fully functional computer system that you can use to do everyday tasks, install software, and store or backup your data and information.

You can do the same with a tablet, but not as well compared to a laptop. When it comes to apps and data storage, laptops get a thumbs up. Laptops or tablet. If you are looking for one whole device to cover all your computing needs, then a laptop is your best option.

Why not check out 2-in-1 notebooks or Chromebooks. It’s both a laptop and a tablet, meaning you get the best of both in one device.

Close off

Laptops may be old tech, yet it still offers better flexibility when it comes to mobile computing. They may not be as portable, have better battery life, or offer ease of use as a tablet, but as time goes and technology gets better, laptop issues will be resolved.

So after that read, are you considering a laptop or a tablet? So you need to take these factors and consider them the next time you decide to either get a laptop or a tablet. It depends on you really, what you are looking for, and what goals or objectives you want it to achieve.

Top Affordable Gaming Laptops of 2019

Let’s face it. Laptops are expensive, especially gaming laptops. Those who want a good portable gaming laptop would need a lot of money to get a great gaming experience. No wonder we end up getting gaming consoles. They are more affordable. But luckily, there are affordable gaming laptops for those with a tight budget. So if you really looking for a cheap gaming laptop, here are some for you to consider.

ASUS ROG G531GT

Windows 10 | 15.6-inch Full HD, 1920 x 1080 resolution, energy-efficient LED backlight | 9th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-9750H Hexa-core | 8 GB of RAM | 512 GB SSD | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 | Weighs 5.29 lbs. (2.4 kgs) | Other features include: HDMI output, Wi-Fi, Ethernet | RGB backlit keyboard | Headphone output | 4-hour battery life

Here you are looking at the all-powerful ASUS ROG G531 GT gaming laptop. It comes with an Intel Core i7 processor with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 graphics card, a storage capacity of 512 GB, and 8 GB of system memory to help you with multitasking.

This affordable gaming laptop also comes with a 15-inch full HD screen that boasts a resolution of up to 1920 x 1080. It only weighs 5.3 pounds and 4 hours of battery life. In stores right now, the G531 is around US$1000, if not a little higher. But it’s a good price making it one of the best budget laptops for gaming.

The only drawback is that the poor battery life, but it has top-of-the-range processing power, and good system memory, it’s lightweight and portable so it is easy to carry.

Acer Nitro 5

Windows 10 | 15.6-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) | 8th Gen Intel® Core™ i5-8300H Quad-core | 8GB of RAM | 1TB HDD | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 graphics | Weighs 6 lbs. This affordable gaming laptop is under the $1000 budget price range. The gaming laptop is one of the cheapest right now at that price range but there are some drawbacks to note: the bezels are too thick which reduces the screen display; the sound quality is not that good and has a poor quality mouse-pad.

The quad-core processor and graphics card make this adequate to play games but at medium to high settings. You can play your old favorite games though at higher settings.

You are looking at 5.5 hours of battery life, but the system memory and the storage space is pretty good. It is indeed a good gaming laptop for graphic and architecture modeling at the office and for gaming as well, just be mindful of what games you test it with.

ASUS GA502

The keyboard layout will include four hotkeys for faster, more intuitive control (perfect for you gamers).

The ASUS GA502 gaming laptop is under the $1500 price range. The quad-core processor and the NVIDIA graphics card can allow you to play most games at medium to high settings. The 8 hours of battery life is pretty good for a gaming laptop so it is a great boost. Google Pixelbook is the best Chromebook 2-in-1 laptop to buy. I know this is not a 2-in-1 laptop, but I felt I must include it here because it has similar features. It comes with good hardware specs and access to all Android apps.

It may not be a Windows laptop but it sure has a great number of features to make you think twice about going back to Windows.

It’s a solid Chromebook with good system performance, decent battery life, huge access to a selection of apps, and the features like a 2-in-1 laptop.

Sadly, it’s quite expensive, the audio works but not well, no biometric login, and the stylus pen is sold separately.

    • No 4K display option
    • Graphics card not good for high-end games
    • No optical drive
    • The stylus pen is expensive and is sold separately

Introducing Chromebooks: Great, Affordable & Reliable

Nowadays, if you get a new laptop there is a good chance that you’ll get a Windows operating system, and for Apple notebooks, you’ll get MacOS. So here’s something interesting, have you heard of Chromebooks?

If yes, good for you. If not, don’t worry cause today you will. I’m going to tell you it, so that you see what is it,  how different is it to a normal laptop, what are the pros and cons, and then list your some Chromebooks out there in the market to look out for. Alright then, let’s get started.

What are Chromebooks?

Acer Chromebook

Chromebooks are basically a type of laptop or notebook that runs Google’s Chrome OS as an operating system. If you are familiar with the Chrome internet browser, you already have a good idea of what Chrome OS is.

It is a web-based OS mostly useful when you are connected online, and gives you access to web-based apps and software. The Chromebooks themselves also come in slim and lightweight models.

In summary, Chromebooks are laptops or notebooks that use Chrome OS as an operating system.

What makes it so different than your current laptop?

Well, I can’t really answer that cause I don’t know what OS your notebook uses. Let’s assume you’re using a notebook with Windows OS. Okay then, let’s compare.

Windows Laptop

A typical Windows laptop or notebook has the following:

    • Pre-installed with Windows OS
    • Runs windows apps and third-party apps
    • Comes with internal storage ranging from 500GB upwards
    • Comes with either Intel or AMD processor
    • “Windows” key on the lower left side of the keyboard

Chromebook

Chromebooks come with the following:

    • Pre-installed with Chrome OS
    • Runs web-based apps from Google
    • Easily accessible from the web browser when connected online
    • Comes with smaller or no hard drives
    • Gives access to store documents, pictures, etc, on the cloud
    • Has a “Search” key located on the left side of the keyboard, where the Caps Lock button is usually located

Advantages of Chromebooks

    • Affordable models ranging from budget to top-of-the-line
    • Faster load times and have few apps to load-up on start-up
    • Easy to use and very user friendly
    • Slim, lightweight making it portability
    • Long battery life of up to 13 hours
    • Able to save documents onto the cloud

Disadvantages of Chromebooks

    • Need to always be online
    • Smaller or no internal hard drive
    • No optical drives like DVD drives

What Chromebooks are out now?

Well, there are lots of Chromebooks out now for you to see, and sadly, I cannot cover them all here, but here below is a link of the best Chromebooks recommended.

Final Thoughts

I definitely like to see and hear about new and innovative tech that we as the user can take advantage of that aim make our lives better. Chrome OS is one such tech that we can use that comes in the form of a notebook.

But since it’s a web-based OS we can easily go online and install Chrome web browser instead into our computers cause it works the same, for that reason I don’t see the need to get one.

The idea of having access to a huge library of resources like apps, ebooks and audiobooks, podcasts and other media files, makes me want to get one so I can gain knowledge, find useful apps and tools (which are mostly free)  and interact with fun entertaining software such as games. For that reason, I’d purchase a Chromebook.

So now you know a little bit more about Chromebooks. I think that it can be a useful tool to help you get through the normal day.

As long as you have access to the internet, you can fully utilize it and gain so many benefits from it. If you’re interested, click here to see the Chromebooks on offer right now.

As always thank you for reading my post, check out the rest of the website, and take care until next time. Leave comments below.

Guide to Better Gaming on Laptops

Need a gaming laptop guide? , you come to the right place. As more PC games are released and become more complex, it’s important that you look at the minimum and maximum hardware specs before buying it.

The reason is that you don’t want to buy a PC game, then get home to your gaming laptop, install it, and find out it doesn’t work.

There are also factors to consider even if it does work in your gaming laptop to consider and to be aware of.

So here are five tips and tactics to do to make your overall gaming experience on your gaming laptop better.

1. Don’t Buy PC Games That Demand High Hardware Specs

The first tip is to get PC games that demand low hardware specs than the specs on your gaming laptop. For example, if a PC game specs Intel i5 and your gaming laptop have an Intel i7, then you should be fine. After you install the PC game, it will work well on your gaming laptop.

Buying PC games with a less demanding hardware spec will run smoother and faster.  Your processor, system memory, and GPU (graphics processing unit), will work less hard and generate less heat. This means faster cooling, and less use of energy, that can prolong the gaming laptop’s life.

2. Tone Down the Screen Resolution

For the best gaming performance, especially with high-end games, it’s best to tone down the screen resolution. These are the numbers that are formatted like so, for example, “1024×768”.

You do this by clicking the Settings or Options button in-game, look for the Screen resolution option, and click on lower screen resolution settings. For example, you can switch from “1366×768” to “1024×768”. The screen resolution will be lower but will increase the refresh rate, making for smoother and better game-play.

This will also help your gaming laptop to handle the visual quality of the game so to better your gaming experience and better your frames per second.

Another tip is to go to the in-game settings menu, look for the display or graphics settings, tone down the graphics settings to lower detail such as shadow effects and water effects and to turn off the anti-aliasing.

3. Keep the Gaming Laptop in Top Condition

As you install more software and games into your gaming laptop it will start to under perform slower, making it run slower. You can either do a Disk clean-up that comes with Windows 10 or use free third-party software such as CCleaner.

Also, make sure that you close all apps running in the background of your windows system to increase the system memory, and also to use Task Manager by pressing “Ctrl-Alt-Delete, and check to see which apps are using the most CPU and memory.

Make sure that drivers for your gaming laptop are up to date, especially the display drivers for your graphics card.

Invest in buying a game-pad or use your existing console controller. It’s another way to better your gaming experience as most games work best with a game-pads.

The drivers for the Xbox One game-pad comes with Windows. For Playstation controllers, they work just as well but you may need to find drivers or a third party software for it to work on your gaming laptop.

5. Be Aware of the Gaming Laptop’s Battery

Playing games on your gaming laptop will take much of your laptop’s battery power.

To extend your gaming experience: you can lower the screen brightness from your screen as much as you can but not to ruin your gaming experience.

You can set the power plan options of your gaming laptop to “balanced” (Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options), and keep your laptop plugged in with the laptop’s battery adapter.

Different Types of Laptop Bags Everyone Should Know

If you have a laptop or notebook, it’s a good idea to also buy a laptop bag as well. Did you know there are different types of laptop bags? Yes, it’s true. There are ones that are offered free or at a reduced price, especially when you get a new machine, but did you know that there are five types?

Apart from the standard laptop bag that protects your machine from damage, there are other factors to consider as well, such as comfort, the design and style, the size of the bag depending on the size of the laptop, and security features.

Another factor to consider when getting a laptop bag is to check if it is waterproof, meaning that it can protect your laptop from water damage, which also includes protection from heat, moisture and other damages.

It’s a good idea to also consider these factors when you are looking to buy a good quality laptop bag.

Different types of laptop bags include the following:

  • Backpacks
  • Shoulder “sling” bags
  • Sleeve bags
  • Messenger briefcases
  • Tote bags

Today we will go through what they are, along with some benefits and cost of each.

Laptop Backpacks

The Casual and Outdoor Type of Laptop Bag

These are generally efficient, with an emphasis on comfort. It is regarded as the most popular and widely useful bag from college students to business and corporate individuals on the go. Most of these bags have a padded section dedicated to keeping the machine upright. It can also be fastened or buckled to hold the machine and other items in place.

Other advantages include:

  • Provides a great amount of protection
  • Easier to carry your laptop around
  • Equal weight distribution between your shoulders
  • Prevents further strain on your arms and hands
  • Comes with several compartments for other accessories

Laptop Shoulder Bags

Best and Easy-to-carry Type of Laptop Bag

These are also padded and offer a great amount of protection for your laptop. But you use public transport, especially if it is congested, it would not be a good idea to use, as chances are that someone or something may bump against your bag.

Remember to keep your bag close to you at all times to better keep it safe and to release some weight from your shoulders.

Other advantages include:

  • Able to use your hands freely
  • Better able to keep a good eye on your laptop bag
  • Easy adjusted to position the sling bag in front of you

Laptop Tote Bags

Ladies Type of Laptop Bag

These bags are more preferred by women because they resemble large carry bags, and come in various trendy styles and fashionable designs. One main drawback to note is that it has one single compartment to put your notebook, charger and other laptop items.

Also, you must always keep changing the positioning of your bag from one shoulder to the other to prevent strain. It is a good idea to not put too many items in it.

Other advantages include:

  • Stylish bags perfect for ladies
  • Easily styled with several preferences
  • Best used for laptops that are smaller than 13-inches

Laptop Messenger Briefcase

Corporate Level Type of Laptop Bag

These are the stylish, elegant looking bags or suitcases mostly seen favoured and carried by corporate individuals in the workplace. Most of them have two handlebars, are rectangular-shaped, has a smooth leather finish, and has a single zipped compartment to store your laptop computer.

Another feature is that it comes with smaller compartments to keep other laptop accessories, and a detachable shoulder strap to sling across your shoulder that converts it into a sling bag. A drawback is that when you carry it with your hands, it is best to keep switching to avoid strain.

Other advantages include:

  • The leather design bags go well with formal wear
  • Offers a good amount of protection for your laptop machine
  • Comes in numerous stylish classy and leather designs
  • Blends well
  • Makes your look professional in the workplace

Laptop Sleeve

Good-to-cover Type of Laptop Bag

This bag is good for keeping your laptop stowed away safely inside your home if not in use, or as a laptop cover inside one of the laptop bags to increase protection. The main flaw for this one is that it offers the least amount of protection for your machine compared to the other bags.

Another drawback is that when you decide to purchase one, you must check the dimensions of the laptop sleeve because a loosely fitted will cause more damage to the laptop when it falls to the ground.

Other advantages include:

  • Really lightweight and easy to carry
  • Affordable
  • Available in several colours, textures, and designs
